My goal for this challenge is to lose 5kg in six weeks. It sounds a lot but I hope some of my current weight is just fluid retention from all the eating and drinking in the past ten days, rather than real fat, so I hope a couple of kilos will come off quickly at first. In fact I kind of started yesterday, only ate protein for meals, but I was so tired from all the hard work of clearing out the junk from an apothiki that I had beer and nuts in the evening so probably cancelled out any calories I might have burnt. In any case, I hadn't weighed myself as I wasn't at home and using different scales wouldn't have been reliable, so I'm counting today as my first day. I'm following the Dukan Diet.
The next huge fagopoti on the horizon is Easter, which comes on 15th April this year in Orthodox countries, a week before that on 8th April in the Catholic calendar. That's almost 15, or 14, weeks away depending on which tradition you follow. However, that may seem interminable to some so I thought we might set ourselves an interim challenge for St Valentine's Day, which falls on a Tuesday this year and is just six weeks away. I hope you'll agree that's manageable and should help us get rid of whatever we gained during the festive season so we can indulge in a romantic Valentine's dinner with our other half. Personally a few days ago I gave away the last few kourabiedhes to a friend to try because she was so impressed when she heard I made them myself (doesn't everyone?) and I don't make melomakarona because I don't like them, so all that's left to tempt me is Vassilopitta but my son loves it so I don't mind leaving it all to him. (It's the second one I made, I had to make one for my mother-in-law as well because she's in mourning. I use a recipe from Stelios Parliaros, if anyone's interested I can post it but it's quite rich, not a diet recipe I'm afraid.) Anyway, I hope some of you will join the challenge.
