I really liked Joyce's book, too. Sounds like you've been learning a lot. Putting it into practice consistently is harder, but it sounds like you're making progress there, too. In consistency lies the victory. (not an original statement, but true)

Yep, I guess there are alot of people who have this issue by some reason or another. I have been negative my whole life. Just the last year I guess I have really stood on the word of God in this area. He has delivered,me in so many other sinful areas. drugs ,alcohol over indulging , cigerettes , sexual perversions . Healings in emotions, physically too, cancer. I think some of the negative is just because of the way the world is. We sometimes hang on to ,something is going to happen, I just know it is. When we need to stay meditating on the word, For that perfcet peace it brings.
What reall has helped me the last couple of weeks is this book by Joyce. BattleField of the mind.
What really hit home was 2 Corinthians 10:5
Casting down imaginations' and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, AND bringing into captivity EVERY thought to the Obedience of Christ;

I meditate this scripture daily now. The o devil is still working but God is more powerful amen! emoticon

They finally got the sermon I was talking about online. I think the one on August 26th AM service is the correct one. You will have to have a version of REAL PLAYER to listen to it.

I love listening to all his sermons. You can even listen real time online if you can't make it to church.

This is the second time my whole message disappeared in the middle of writing. I don't just mean what I typed, but the whole template.

Susan, thanks for sharing. That is one of my favorite verses, too. I appreciate your dictionary work. I like the idea that I repose my way with the Lord. I sure know He can handle it.

Stephanie, your baby steps will take you toward your goal. Someone told Indiegirl when she said lifting shampoo bottles was nothing, that doing the nothing will strengthen you for the something. I remind myself of that a lot. Eleven minutes of cardio is something to celebrate. Congratulations.

Hi, my name is Stephanie and I have used the negative talk with the exercise. I have plantar facitis and tarpal tunnel in my left foot. It makes it very hard for me to walk. So I just haven't done anything. Yesterday I went to the spark exercises and did the 11 minute cardio. Its beens so long since I have done anything that I struggled just to make that 11 minutes but I did it. So now I am trying to tell myself that "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me." I know the exercise is important. I started today printing to a printer not at my desk so that I have to get up everytime I need to get something from it. Trying in baby steps to get more exercise. My prayers are with you all. As stated below each of us is fearfully and wonderfully made and we are made in God's image. God doesn't make junk. So let us all just tell that old devil he has to flee when we hear those things that speak to us that are against what God says in is word. Have a very blessed day today.

I thought I would share one of my favorite passages of scripture.

Psalms 37:4 & 5

Delight yourself also in the Lord, and He will give you the desires and secret petitions of your heart. Commit your way to the Lord [roll and repose each care of your load on Him]; trust (lean on, rely on, and be confident) also in Him and He will bring it to pass. (Amp. Version)

I like to look words up in the dictionary so I will add some of the definitions that I looked up.

Delight - a high degree of pleasure or enjoyment; joy; rapture. Something that gives great pleasure, satisfaction or enjoyment; to please highly

Commit - to give in trust or charge; consign. To pledge (oneself) to a position on an issue or question; express (one's intention, feeling, etc.) To bind or obligare, as by pledge or assurance To entrust, especially for safekeeping,; commend

Repose - to put under authority or at the disposal of a person

Joyce Meyer says that we need to let God be God in our lives. He wants to give us the desires of our hearts as we commit our ways to Him.

What an excellent message Shawnda, thanks for sharing it. If we would think about what God says about us instead of the negatives that come from the enemy, we would all be winners.

This was such a very good post I rarely say anything but I have to comment here...I have truly struggled with negative self-talk for a long time but what God has been teaching me here very recent is that in order to get rid of the negative talk you have to develop self control...without self control our whole life would be in shambles. As I heard Joyce Meyers say if you don't want the enemy's plan for your life then stop speaking what he says and start speaking what God says...the devil tells us we can't...God says we can do ALL things..when the man was crippled by the river God could have picked him up and carried him to the river for him to be healed..but he told him to get up and take up his bed and walk...meaning the man had to do his part...the bible tells us to be careful of what we think on, look on, and what is in our heart...and that applies to what comes from our ownselves. Even if we don't see the finish line for this weight loss journey now we can speak to our selves that we have reached that goal..b/c that is faith..believing in what we can't see...and telling ourselves that we are more than conquerors through Christ! Well I could talk on this forever...I am praying for each of you and that all of us will develop the mind of Christ to speak good things and not bad things for our lives! blessings

All things through Christ!

Gayle, I understand just what you mean. Many, many years ago, a friend and I gave a shower gift jointly to our pastor's wife, so we could give a nicer gift than we could have alone. She thanked my friend right in front of me and never mentioned it by word or note to me. There have often been times I've wanted to see her again just to ask her about it. But of course I had to forgive her and put it out of mind. I think your pastors asked you to take care of the ty notes and signed them and put the whole thing out of their minds, never realizing they hadn't sent one to you. I know if they didn't appreciate the good work you do, they never would have felt free to ask you to do such a job, nor trusted you to do it. They must put a lot of confidence in you.
Leona and Deb, you're both right. Attitude is so important. I am amazed at the determination and persistence of people on Spark. Jesus said That if two of you shall agree on earth as touching any thing that they shall ask, it shall be done for them of my Father which is in heaven. I can certainly agree with both of you that you will reach your goals. Father, right now I agree with Leona and Deb that they will reach the fitness goals they are reaching for. I believe it is your will for each of us to be healthy and fit and able to do the work you have planned for each of us. I trust you Lord, that you will undertake for each one of us, in Jesus name. Amen

I had a chiropractor tell me I couldn't do something and another chiropractor basically said don't listen to any one that tells you, you can't do it. We know with the right attitude and baby steps we can create our own miracles.

I have struggled to overcome negative self-talk that had been re-enforced by my doctors at the VA.... they had told me that I would not be able to keep up my walking schedule and routine 2 years ago. Well 3 months after they told me that I was on crutches for 10 weeks followed by 3 months very light exercise restrictions. I worked up to about half of what I had been doing prior then had a relapse again. its been a vicious cycle and I am trying to overcome my i can't do it additude with by starting very small and trying to work my way back up again.

This past Thursday I met my new VA doctor who was very through and encouraging. She gave me a lot of information to think about.

Gayle you are an amazing, caring person. I know exactly what you mean. A little appreciation goes along ways. I know that we are not suppose to be doing things for the appreciation and we are suppose to be doing them to bring God glory. I am praying for you because I fight those feelings many times myself.

Thank you for your kind words, Janet. Part of my issue is I know the right things to say, I know the answers but when I am so beaten down into my illness I seem to forget the things I need to hold onto. You said some very caring things to me in your response and I wanted you to know that I appreciate them. Today I am once again struggling with those thoughts. You see, I just got through writing about 100 thank you notes that my Pastor's wife asked me to write to those that helped in the recent camp meeting, for her and Pastor to sign and I am the only person that didn't get one from them. What was I suppose to do? Write my own thank you. I didn't do it for the thanks but sometimes I would just like to be appreciated. So today the voices are loud.

Lynn congrats on getting out of debt!! What a huge accomplishment. We seem to be in a revolving cycle. Usually at least once a year we are debt free. I hate it.

We will learn to live our healthy lives one day at a time. We will do this!

Leona, I'm looking forward to listening to the sermon. Praise goes up, glory comes down!
Janet, I am committed to getting out of debt. I went through a depressive time a few years ago and used my credit card to make me feel better. Oh how fleeting the feeling, but the debt lingers on. Just like eating to feel better. That better feeling is fleeting, but the fat lingers and lingers. I have not used a credit card in over a year and I'll be out from under that debt in about 3 years. Ouch! With God's help I will realize that goal. I have not been as committed to my healthful living and hope that that is now turning around. I do live simply and by that I mean not getting stressed, flustered etc. and enjoying the little things in life that God provides and so many of us take for granted. Ok well that's enough about me. I hope everyone is having a great week. I kept thinking today was Thursday so that tomorrow would be Friday and then a 3-day weekend!

Hi, Lynn, I surely enjoyed your comment. I'm sorry for what is going on with your roof. I at first wondered why you didn't borrow the money for your roof, but I see you want to be debt-free. I am debt-free and it is wonderful, so freeing. I like your idea of having your picture at your normal weight where you can see it, unfortunately, I've never been at my normal wt. But I soon will be. emoticon But best of all I like where you said keeping God's Word before us renews our spirit. So very true. Thanks for the reminder.

I have to say, thankfully, that right now I have no negative self-talk. Even when I decided to start up with my weight loss again, I haven't had any doubts that I can do it and it's been 3 weeks. That's good for me. God is good. We had a storm here last night and when I went to bed I kept hearing a drip, drip so I turned the light on to inspect it and sure enough rain was dripping in my closet. I think 2012 is the year my roof decided to disintegrate. I put down a thick blanket to absorb the water and turned out the light and went back to bed AND fell asleep. This is the third place my roof is failing and I know I don't have enough money saved yet, but the repairman will just have to do some kind of emergency fix for the amount I have saved and then next summer do a complete new roof. Satan will use anything to distract us. And Janet, yes we need to Phillipians 4:8 it as Kay says. I love her, have done several of her studies.
As far as my weight, I posted a picture of myself when I was at my normal weight on my computer desktop at work. Whenever I'm doing research and not working on the computer, I have that picture up (all 18" of me) and can see it out of the corner of my eye and it is very helpful. Much like keeping God's word before us renews our spirit.
I wish you all a very blessed day.

I am blessed with a great Spirit of Joy in so much of what I do and am grateful for the activities I have that bring me to a rich faithfulness.

With Isaac right around the corner, my personal self-talk is yappin' its fool head off. Am I ready? Will I be able to manage the last week of my holiday with the possibility that I may be without electricity, television, internet, microwave, toaster, air conditioning in the heat of summer? Will I really be able to manage a lifestyle where I rest at night and work (and play) by the daylight? The shopping center today was a bit frazzled with activity (even the drivers were acting weirder than usual). I have more than enough supplies to bunker down for a few days. Will I like it? -- probably not, but I'll probably get through just fine. Through Christ, all things are possible and I'm relying on this and my love and faithfulness to get me through. I have two prayer shawls in the works and I really am close enough to finish one of them in the next few days, if I put my mind and heart to it. This may very well be an incredible test that I pray I'll pass with flying colors!

Hope you're all having a great week!

My goodness. I am not sure if this thread will help or hurt. I can't see how it can hurt! We already have the negative going on. Hopefully in honesty , sharing it when we have those down pulling thoughts, others will help us to be lifted up. That's what Jesus wants us to do. I have had the same thoughts you you all. I hate the feelings that go with it. Sometimes I feel like I want to run from myself. Can't do that. I always look to Jesus. He has always provided a way or person. Satan is a liar and father of lies. We need to focus on truth . we were worth Jesus coming , shedding blood (He stayed perfect for us) and rose from the dead for us. I 'd say that makes everyone of us worth...
We need to focus on His strength, wisdom, healing power, patience , I feel better already! Good bye for now. I know I will be back. God bless each of you. You are all precious!

Hi, Gayle, Even though those messages seem to be in our voice, I believe their source is the enemy of our souls. He is a liar and the father of lies. If he is saying it, it is a lie. period. Kay Arthur, a well-known Bible teacher says she pats down every thought (you know, like the police do with a suspect.) If the thought is not true, honest, just, pure, lovely, of good report, if there's no virtue and no praise, she casts it out and refuses to think it. cf Philippians 4:8. You are a valuable and worthy person, and God loves you, and He never gives up on you. You are the apple of His eye.

First of all Welcome and congratulations on becoming the co-leader of this team. I'm sure that you will do an awesome job!!

I really struggle with negative self talk. This is not something new, it's been going on forever it seems like. It is a symptom of my illness that I am trying to overcome. Everyday I try to watch my self talk and replace it with positive self talk like Leona has said but many days the negative voices are far louder than I can handle. Some of that talk goes like this...."No-one will ever want or care about you. Your parents didn't want you, what makes you think other people will?"...."You're no good and will never amount to anything!" and i think the worse one is..."God has given up on you, there's no hope left for you!"

I read my Bible everyday to try to counteract these messages, some days I am successful, other days I'm not. I would be very interested in how others are overcoming these messages.

Many times I use the truth of scripture. You are fearfully and wonderfully made for an example.

We all sometimes hear negative self-talk. Those voices that tell us how we'll never make it, or we don't deserve it, or we're unworthy, or ugly, or never be fit and healthy. They're all liars. This is a thread to share some of the self-talk that's been bothering you.

I've been having an increase in that talk since I started being a co-leader for this team. The voices say, this is too much. You'll never be able to keep up with this. You won't be any good. You won't have any good ideas. Need I go on?

By sharing, perhaps it will help us deal better with that voice that wants to say negative things to us. I'm going to try to post a song that may help. It is by Casting Crowns. You may want to skip the ad.
