My hubby is like me and working out comes and goes in phases. Right now he is working out because I am. If I get lazy again, he will follow suit.

The good news is, all the PB eggs have been eliminated from my home. I'm ready for a Mother's Day challenge!

For those who are keeping track - my hubby doesn't work out on a regular basis either. He did Tae Kwon Do for a couple of months while the rest of the family was doing it but that's pretty much it (and that's over for now.) If we're hiking a historic site he's all for it so I guess I should plan some more outings where he will join us! I love PB eggs too - protein right? (laughing!) also I was given some dark chocolate coconut eggs (Russell Stover) and boy were those yummy!

Mar 31 - Easter - big bomb on both exercise and water (I woke up the next day so dehydrated!)
April 1 - 60 min zumba - yes lots of water
April 2 - 1.5 miles while chaperoning my kid's field trip to a battlefield. 4 glasses water

First, WOW! Shreding alone is tough enough... but with a toddler? You're like super woman to me!
Second, Reese's PB eggs are my easter cryptonite, along with cadbury creme eggs and cadbury mini eggs.... and being a big emotional eater and seeing them on said for $0.44? Someone tie me up! I want to scarf a whole box of those suckers!
As for the childcare worker? I'm disapointed... in her! I mean I know when I worked as a care worker we knew how very special and precious the time was to Mommies and Daddies to have to themselves and wouldn't have given up on the little cupcake after just ten minutes. Now, to be fair I'm not sure how many cupcakes she had in there and it may have been many... but still. I've done shifts with 15 kids and three bawling and made it 30 minutes. Oh well, I love your super positive attitude and I know your precious loves that you came and played in the lobby. For all that?

emoticon

PS how do all you ladies have Hub's who workout? Jeez... need to get Yimmy on here to see how he stacks up! LOL

ALLIECAT1881 - 3/27/2013: it's a good thing I do work sitting down! Way to Rock the jogging! I'm still not at the point where my heel has healed (snigger) and so I'm even SLIGHTLY jealous that you got to do that!
If you want a quick and easy way to measure your runs I highly suggest the app MapMyFitness or MapMyRun (same company just slightly different) or Nike Running app (the GPS one). Or even easier? Hop on Google Maps and plot it out as a walking route. Super fast and gives you the distance to plunk right into our SparksPeople fitness section, you'll be shocked how far you can actually go without knowing it when you're outside and moving.

Lastly, I just read a interesting study that disproved the concept that drinking 1 cup of coffee negates your H2O consumption. The original thinking was that coffee contains caffeine and since it's a diuretic it will dehydrate the water you consumed out of you. The newer studies show that's not quite true, as the amount of caffeine in one cup a joe isn't enough to negate 8oz of water, particularly if the coffee is a normal part of your routine, as your body will be adjusted to drinking it so the benefits of increasing your hydration is still felt. So keep on doing that happy dance!
Also, HUGE prop's to your sweetie for doing a jog too! Mine is a couch potato. lol

Welcome back, KALIKA! And hey ladies!! :) Time for an update! OK so the 28th I was outside pounding stakes into my fenceline to keep the dogs in the yard (which didn't work, by the way so I've done it again every day since). Wielding a sledgehammer totally counts as exercise. I also did my 60 squats and 35 curls and arm raises, 7 minute abs.

The 29th more stake pounding and... that's the day we celebrated our anniversary so... yeah I got some exercise. ::winkwinknudgenudgesaynomore::

30th was opening day for the Rails to Trails so we hit our local trail for some walking. The boys brought their bikes so I got to go at my normal pace for a change. I also did some sprinting to race my eldest across the bridges! They weren't short bridges. I was running as fast as I possibly could too. He won, but BARELY. And then he bragged to everyone passing about it lol. We got at least a 3 mile walk/sprint.

31st was Easter and the weather sucked so I did a lot of nothing. I didn't go nuts on candy or other food. Our snack was a veggie tray so I still did well :)

April Fool's Day we went out to another park and walked the trails and the beach for about 3 miles. It was awesome :) It wasn't continuous strenuous exercise, but it was such a great day and it did a lot of good for my mood.

Yesterday, even though my hubby had to work on our anniversary I still had a great day. I hiked in the woods for 2 miles with my boys and our neighbors.

Today we're going to a Marine Museum so I probably won't be getting a lot of exercise, but my plan is to jog with my fat dog again (if he ever comes back). I was out fixing the fence AGAIN this morning. My stinkin' beagle is just not wanting to stay in the yard and his chubby minion follows him everywhere. ::sigh:: Anyway! Congrats to everyone for surviving Easter. You all did great! Hope everyone keeps going with this forward momentum :)

As far as the next goal... how about Mother's Day (May 12th)? That way we can all look fabulous in our Mother's Day photos that get posted on Facebook and elsewhere ;)

Hi Everyone, emoticon
Sorry for the disapearance from the MommyLand arena, thank you everyone for your condolences. He was a wonderful man, one of the few true Gentlemen left in the world and I'm still trying to cope with him being gone, it'll be hard.
Anyways, on a happier note, I'm super duper proud of all of you! You've been keeping up with your hard work and healthy living and I promise a new challenge will be coming out tomorrow. If anyone has a mile stone they're looking to work towards please let me know. If we don't have one I'll go ahead and use May 18th as our next check point (which is alot further away then we've done before....)
I also promise to go through every comment on this thread and our others before the end of the week. Not all will get comments back, however I'll do a good chunk of them!
emoticon
Keep up the good work everyone!

That sounds like the best kind of exercise Mary!

Well thank god Reese's PB eggs aren't available year round. They are like cryptonite. I exercised control but not complete control.

My challenge was thwarted on Saturday by my son. 10 minutes into my workout the girl from the childcare center came to get me because my 13 month wouldn't stop crying. So we played in the lobby while my husband got a workout. the The rest of the day was jam packed and there was no time for any other exercise.

C'est la vie. Life with kids. Luckily I doubled up on exercise on Friday.

Hope everyone hasn't let Easter completely derail you! We're finishing up spring break and so for the last couple of days I've been making sure to do some fun things with the kids instead of formally "exercising." So we've done a couple of day excursions that involved lots of walking while looking at fun stuff. Also snuck in a few squats and pushups so I'm not too far behind. Been getting in the water too so I'm doing pretty well this week.

March 30 - day trip with lots of walking - (I think I'll go have a glass of water now I think I'm behind!)
March 29 - day trip with lots of walking - 4-5 glasses water
March 28 - 40 min 2.4 mile walk squats & pushups. 6 glasses water

We're jogging and shredding and getting ourselves out there - just look at us! I got up and got dressed for my walk this morning and (darn it!) it may have been 6pm before I finally got out the door to go to the lake this evening but I got my walk in! So I did my errands and other things in my exercise clothes and mangy hair. And - instead of getting dressed in my real clothes for the day I will probably have to just shower and get in my jammies after dinner but I walked!

That is awesome AllieCat!! You were on fire yesterday. Hills are no joke. To be able to run 7 straight minutes when you haven't run in a long time is pretty freakin' fantastic.

Once again, I didn't get 30 minutes in yesterday but I did the Shred with my 3 year old (again) so that counts for something.

Ladies... are you sitting down? I JOGGED TODAY! Like, out in the real world. For serious. I leashed up my fat golden retriever mix and jogged my street with hills, yes HILLS. I wasn't able to maintain a full jog the entire time, but I only took at most a minute and a half to recover before jogging again. The longest I did was 7 solid minutes uphill for about a quarter of a mile. My total distance was a little over a mile... I think. I've never measured my street.

Now... while on one hand I want to go "$hit I used to do 8 times that without stopping when I was in the Army" instead I'm like "HOLY CRAP! I haven't gone for a jog in... 5 years but I DID IT! and right after quitting smoking too!!". Commence ridiculously awkward happy dance. Unnnh get some. Yeah.

Yesterday I woke up early and did a little cardio in my room, and a touch of strength.
100 jumping jacks
60 front to back hops
60 side to side hops
60 deep squat kick-boxing style cross punches (with a bounce)
60 squats
35 curls w/ 10lb weights
60 crunches
Then me and the boys took the dogs on a 20 minute walk, which was slower than I would have liked (they're 3 and 5). But, it still counts ;) I drank 6 (out of 10) glasses of water yesterday. Today thus far I've had 4, but I also had 2 cups of coffee so it's more like NONE. I'll catch up :)

My energy level is through the roof and my attitude is rubbing off on the hubs who suddenly got it in his head to jog last night! Even yesser!

I took my son to the lake with me for my walk yesterday which in theory should make me go faster since he has one speed when we walk and that is running. But, our 40 minute walk took well over an hour since we had to stop many times to throw things in the lake to see how loud different things sounded, to look at the herons and turtles and play at the playgrounds. I still would rather go with him - my walks are much more fun when he's with me.

March 27 40 min walk 2.4 miles (no kids with me) +squats, crunches and pushups 4 glasses water so far...
March 26 60+ min walk 2.4 miles (one child of three with me) 5 cups water

Well there were several starts and stops and running upstairs to get milk, etc. She likes to exercise and sails through the video without breaking a sweat. I wish i had her energy. And her belief that a cup of ice is an excellent dinner.

If you can do 20 minutes of shred with a three year old I'm impressed! And as I hate working out in the morning so if you can leave your cozy bed and get moving that is a huge accomplishment.

I've been drinking 16 oz of water as soon as I get up in the morning. It's made all the difference is how much water I get in over the day. I've found I don't want water right after breakfast but I wake up thirsty and the first 16 oz are easy if I get them in BEFORE I have my skim milk with mocha.

Update on the past two days
March 24 - 40 min walk 2.4 miles *got it in before the weather turned yucky plus squats and pushups 6 glasses of water
March 25 - 60 min zumba 8 glasses water (zumba makes me thirsty!)

Sounds like an accomplishment to me, YARAC! :)

OK so this morning I was freezing cold, enjoying the cocoon of my bed as snow fell outside. School was delayed for 2 hours and I thought... I should use this time wisely. I probably lay there a good 40 minutes just thinking about stuff that I'm stressed about and got more and more comfortable in that cocoon. Then all of a sudden I just got mad at myself and JUMPED out of bed and did my workout. I'm all proud of me :)

60 jumping jacks
60 squats
7 minute abs
35 curls w/ 10lb weights
35 bent-arm lateral raises w/ 10lb weights
60 side bends w/ 10lb weights

AND even though I started off being really grumpy and annoyed I kept working. I ate well. I drank my water, had tea instead of coffee (it dehydrates me). I baked muffins with my kids. I cleaned. I gave my huge smelly dogs a bath and blowdry. And now I feel 150% better than when I initially woke up this morning. I'm so happy that TODAY I was able to make myself keep going because it's always been very difficult for me. I've stayed on facebook or netflix and yelled at my kids all day long in my pj's most other days lately. But, NOT TODAY!! I changed my day! :) :) Hope everyone else had a great Monday too!! :)

So far so good for me. I only got 20 minutes rather than 30 on Friday but it was good enough for me. Trying to do the 30 Day Shread with 3 y/o as your workout partner adds an extra challenge to those 20 minutes.

Sorry to hear about your Grandpa :/ We'll hold down the fort here and keep motivating and checking in on each other.

I went geocaching with some friends and have been drinking more water and less coffee. I haven't gotten around to my 10 additional anything yet because I love using company as an excuse not to do 10 minutes of exercise ;) haha. ANYWAY... I'm sure this week I will do better. Because I want to.

Love everyone's goals! They're realistic and yet still very motivational! Good luck on the challenge, Ladies! :)

I'm sorry to hear about your grandfather. Good that you can go be with your family right now. Don't worry about us and the challenges. We'll keep striving to meet our goals and will continue checking in here with each other while you are away (Am I right ladies?)

I'll give a qick progress update while I am here.
March 22 my exercise was taking down the lights and stage at my daughter's school after their play. Lots of strength needed there. So I'm totally counting it. 4 glasses water
March 23 40 min walk 2.4 miles and I'm drinking my 5th glass as I type.

I'm so glad we have added water to this challenge. I'm hoping to get back to drinking more and this is the motivation I need.

Hey everyone, I had some bad news this morning. My grandfather passed away today, and I need to fly home for the funeral. I'll be gone for 9 days and will likely not be online much. I feel awful and won't be much support right now. I hope you all understand. I'll check in when I can, but don't think I've left you guys if you don't hear from me. Luv you all and will see you when I get back to my normal routine.

Trying to set some realistic goals so I will shoot for 30 minutes of exercise a day (with the kids home that might be impossible but we will see.) 4 glasses of water would be about right to add to the other beverages I consume - decaf unsweetened iced tea and skim milk being my other drinks of choice. (and if I'm lucky I might get to sneak in a random glass of beer over the next couple of weeks - a girl has to have goals right?)

Good Morning Ladies!

Today is the first day of our new CRAZY challenge. We've got lots going on at the start of April so lets work towards making it great! We have April Fools day on the 1st, also it's AllieCat's Anniversary so to help her celebrate we've included that in the title! Let's cheer her on extra loud so she feels FAB for her big day! Also, it's Easter! And though you may not all celebrate the holiday in the Traditional sense, we can all agree the chocolate bunnies and eggs can make for some big challenges for us girls trying to loose some pounds, ton up and get fit!
SO! For the next 12 days lets work on our fitness minutes, I'd like everyone to try and aim for 45 minute daily average, but if you had trouble with 30 it's okay to stick with that for this challenge. We want everyone to have achievable goals right? And I'd like to add an H2O (water) count. Lets get everyone drinking at least 4-5 of their recommended 8-10 glasses a day. After all we don't want you all floating away! IF your body has already adjusted to 4-5 glasses, feel free to up your amount in your goals section, but if you don't drink much at all (or like my husband ANYTHING all day, start small. Your body needs time to adjust to the change. Okay Ranters! Here, we, GO!

Copy and paste into your update and fill in the areas as you like:

Starting Point: (add your starting point here)
Goals for the (Insert whichever name you like) 12 day Challenge: -- minutes of exercise, -- glasses of H2O a day and (add any personal goal here)
