It's only me, but I still coupon. Last week I saved $15.00, just with coupons and that's not counting what I saved just shopping for only sale items. What I haven't been able to justify for myself, is buying lots of Sunday papers. They are $1.50 a piece. Many times it doesn't seem worth while to pay for lots of papers and gamble not getting enough back in coupons. How do the rest of you feel. Or, is this an issue for a single person.

I commented there. This is the link to the website that I mentioned.

I was able to combine their coupon for a Lean Cuisine with a store special - and ended up with some easy meals that we used when I came home from a medical procedure the other day.

My local stores do not do any Tripling of coupons, and the max you can get on double coupons is to double a 25 cent coupon - if you can find one.

the store i use has their ad online. i can then check what coupons i have to save a little money. the most expensive item is fresh produce and it generally does not have coupons.

my grandma used to get a lot of free stuff with coupons, of course a lot of theose are items i now don't like or don't buy. when we were kids we love hamburger helper and things. i don't buy those mixes anymore.

Don't forget to be awesome.

Somebody asked for a good coupon website. I like this one because it has links to a lot of others.
www.couponmom.com/

My issue with coupons, most are for brand names & generic brands are still cheaper.
I have never found a coupon that reduced a price more than 15%.
The stores here have new restrictions. You cannot combine store coupons with manufacturer coupons - except on some items at Walgreens.

Today's paper has a coupon for Carefree Actifresh Pantiliners 20-22 count for $.01 at Target.
Might be worth asking your friends to save their Sunday coupons for ya!

Target's also giving away a nifty recyclable bag made of 100% post-consumer plastic today in celebration of Earth Day.

My Publix and Winn-Dixie are two mile apart, both two miles from my home. I usually go to both every two weeks to buy groceries. I use coupons and BOGO to help out! This past week I spent a total of $100.00 and had coupon and store savings of over $ 55.00. It was a large week with detergent, paper towels, toilet paper and cat and dog food. Usually my bill does not include all these items in a groc trip.

You don't have to buy large quantities with coupons. Many coupons you only have to buy one or two of a product. I would check out couponmom.com to get you started. You have to create a log in ID, but it's free.

I'm wondering if couponing is worth it for just the two of us. I'd love to hear from others who coupon but don't have kids or large families. Also I know there are several books on couponing can anyone recommend a book, or specific web site that was helpful?

That's pretty good for a man. My hubby inevitably grabs the most expensive item on the shelf. Shopping with him is like watching that game show Supermarket Sweep, where they just run through the store throwing as much high priced stuff in the buggy as they can. If he is with me, you would think the earth would explode if he has to wait for the cashier to scan a coupon. Needless to say, he stays home when I go shopping if at all possible, lol.

I don't have toooo much control over the grocery budget... the BF goes shopping most of the time... I am recruited to come along only on rare ocassions as I have ZERO patience for it! He does not like to use coupons (although he will sometimes - I think you can now print some off of the Publix website), but he totally rocks the BOGO and store brands. He actually charts the savings each time he goes and keeps it in a spreadsheet!

$55 is a great savings! Congratulations, you're on your way. I just added to my post before yours that for those of you who live in Florida, or shop at a Publix store, they also take competitor's coupons. I use Target coupons there all the time since I get the coupons in the mail, but don't have a Target near by. I also sometimes use the coupons that WD prints in their flyer for $5 off on your $30 purchase, at Publix, to save even more. Also, Wal-mart has a policy that it will match competitor's sales ads if you bring the ad with you and show at the check out. It can be a little time consuming, but if somewhere that you don't usually sho has a good deal, you can use it at Wal-mart. Also, I have even used those Buy One get Two fee coupons on meat from the Albertson's ad at Publix.

I am religious with my coupon clipping and usage. I clip all of the coupons even if I don't use the product, because sometimes I will find someone to trade with. I am also starting a monthly coupon night in my community, where we all meet with our coupons, tips, and sales ads and trade coupons, and talk about how to use them and where the real deals are.

I live in Florida, and we have Winn-Dixie, and Publix stores that offer lots of BOGO free items. Winn-Dixie also has a weekly buy this get that free thing going. This week it's buy three boxes of Kellogg's cereals, and get one 8 ct. box of nutri-grain bars,a 64 ounce bottle of cranberry juice,a 7.6 oz. pkg. of Martha White muffin mix, and a gallon of milk free. Since I have coupons for .50 cents off 1 box of Kellogg's and I have three of them, I will save $1.50 on my purchase, and get all of the other stuff free just for buying the cereal. This week they also have a deal where you buy the 40-64 load bottle of Tide, and you get a 22oz. bottle of shout, a 96 oz. bottle of bleach, a 64 oz. bottle of Downy, a 40 ct. downy dryer sheets, and a bonus two pack of the Purex laundry complete sheets. I have a $3 coupon for the tide, and a coupon for a free 10 ct. package of the tide drop-ins when you buy tide detergent, so I'll really rack up with this one. By the way, if I happen to have coupons for the free items I can use them, because you have to be Winn-Dixie rewards card holder to get the deals, and that is a discount that you get at the end of your order.

Publix also has some really good BOGO offers this week. I took my son with me to prove to him that it pays to use coupons, and got out of that store with everything from canned chicken to Ragu sauce, cat food, Arnold whole grain bread, unsweetened Kool-aide pkgs, Ronzoni pasta, tea bags,v-8, Mott's applesauce, canned veggies, frozen veggies, yogurt, and egg beaters. My total bill was $67.41, but between the BOGO free sales and my coupons, my total was only $18.44. My son was impressed so I think I may have a convert in the works, lol.

By the way, for those of you who live in Florida, or shop at a Publix store, they also take competitor's coupons. I use Target coupons there all the time since I get the coupons in the mail, but don't have a Target near by. I also sometimes use the coupons that WD prints in their flyer for $5 off on your $30 purchase, at Publix, to save even more.

I was a subscriber at refundcents.com for years and I really saved the big bucks. I don't think it's possible anymore if you aren't getting help online at sites that are dedicated to couponing and refunding. You also need the time to do this. I got hyper-busy with art and bookcrossing and just let it go.

And yes, you can get good basic nutrition with coupons. Example: those Lundgren brown rice coupons I keep talking about. $1 off any size package means that when the 1 lb bags are on sale for $1.29, I'm getting a pound of brown rice for 29 cents. No, you can't find coupons for everything, but being able to stock up on some good deals makes buying the other stuff less painful.

If you've got brands you regularly buy, do some searching for coupons for those products online. If you find a really great coupon, order several from a coupon-clipping service or buy multiple copies of the magazine or newspaper you found the coupon in.

Most stores here in CO will take coupons and double them even on marked down items. Get to know which stores have a markdown area...and haunt it for good deals.

Some stores like Target will let you use a manufacturer's coupon with one of their store coupons--we stocked up on ham steaks that way.

There's a lot of good natural foods coupons available from mambo sprouts.

Just a few thoughts. Hope some of this is helpful!

I love Publix too and take advantage of the sale items, BOGO's, and use coupons to get things free or nearly so. Luckily I have a freezer and can stock up so it pays for me. I too hate the cheap generics and as long as I can work the system and get the name brand I will.

I shop at Publix in FL for 80+% of my shopping.

We don't have double coupons, we can only stack one manufacturer & one store coupon per item and our district is literally the most strict on the coupon policy out of all the Publix's. They limit the amount of coupons we can use on items as well.

Today we purchased $178.43 for $2.86 I had $39.70 in coupon overage to spend on items that did not have coupons such as produce, milk, meat, bakery, and deli items. I have several products that are in the sale store month long sale ad (advantage fliers for those of you with a Publix) that I will be getting for free or make money on next week to purchase even more items without coupons. We have never eaten healthier. Really.

Other than actually clipping coupons each Sunday- I clip & keep them all- I spend less than 2 hours a week to pull all of my coupons and work the deals, including checking the websites I follow that do the match-ups for me.
There are tons of free websites that match up the sales with the current manufacturer and store coupons available. Tons.

The biggest key to our savings, at least I think so, is that we stock up on items that we get cheaply when they are available. I purchased 14 containers of feta cheese for free and stuck them in the freezer and defrost as needed. If I only picked up the 2 that I would use quickly, I would have paid $5 a piece until the were free again. Clearly, that doesn't help the budget.

My other thing is that I never buy one paper. I buy at least 14. $7 in newspapers saves me, well it saved me $175.57 today.

Other than places such as NYC & parts of Canada, I have several online buddies throughout the United States and Canada that rock coupons better than I ever could. Really. I know it's possible because I see it in their brag photos.

As for the show, they have double coupons and pre- ordered all those items beforehand to make it look "amazing" for TV.

I went with a friend to Save A Lot last week and she spent just over $15 and walked out with about 2 bags worth of cheap groceries. I literally wanted to be sick. I could never afford to shop there as they have off brands for the most part which means no free, well anything. Once upon a time (6 months ago) generic brands where my only option. Now I will never go back. I wish I had known about coupons forever ago but I'm glad that now that I know about them, that I can be a better steward with my money. I know that not everyone wants to coupon for many different reasons, but I am so thankful that I am able to coupon. I has literally rocked my world.

Sorry for the book. You may have noticed I'm a little biased! LOL

I learned how to use coupons the way you describe by using GroceryGame.com. I saved TONS of money on the program. However, it has a monthly fee and I found I wasn't eating as healthy as I would like. I'm using a free website called Coupon Mom and really like it. I check on their site before I shop to see what I should be stocking up on, especially meat and produce.

My supermarket always has manufacturer coupons on a take one pad just as you enter the store so - I only peel off the few I will use and I don't have to clip or save them. The flyers save me more money especially on boneless chicken as the sale is big when they have it. I also get about a dozen big coupons like $2 off from a company for doing their long paper consumer surveys it is a thank you for taking the time and they send you the coupons for items that you indicated in the survey you are already using. This is in Canada

I have a coupon party every week to exchange coupon that I don't use and I give them to someone that does. It's great fun. At the same time we exchange recipe's also. We have also started exchanging seeds and plants too. Some of us have too many of the same plants.

I check the local store websites also as they have deals other than the package goods.

I totally agree that it can be hard to use coupons for items other than pre-packaged foods. Also, the store brand is usually cheaper.

My BF does all of the grocery shopping and our local store (Publix) will print how much you've saved on the bottom of the receipt. BF will usually buy about $120 worth of food for $80. He tries to hit all of the sale items. Even though we don't have a lot of storage, he will also stock up when certain things are buy one get one free.

Most of the stores here don't accept coupons anymore, but I did try couponing years ago and found that it wasn't worth it --

-- The stores that accepted coupons were higher-priced than those that didn't.

-- I usually bought a cheaper brand than the one who offered a coupon, and the savings did not bring the price down lower than the cheaper brand I usually bought.

-- I never found manufacturers' coupons for FOOD items I would buy -- ditto for most of the non-food products, unless it was something brand new that I wanted to try.

-- Stores are still alerted in advance of companies that will offer coupons, how much discount will be offered, and how long the coupon will be valid, so the stores adjust their prices accordingly.

However, through the years, I should have developed a habit of paying more attention to store circulars -- especially those from supermarkets.

I now attempt to go through all the supermarket circulars and it has been somewhat helpful (although it is time-consuming, and the small print can be a challenge), but I've found that some of the announced sales don't materialize and the store substitutes something else.
I've also found that the on-line circulars often don't match the printed ones given out in the store.

"But, I seldom find them for food. If I need cereal, I might find coupons for Wheaties, but the store brand is still cheaper."

This is one reason I wonder if it would be helpful for us to start couponing. I did it years ago and even did the rebates. When the internet came along, we cancelled our newspaper subscription and I eventually quit couponing at all. I'm thinking maybe I'm better off without them. I've made my own granola cereal in the past. I've never done the figuring, but I think it's probably just as cost effective to buy the cereals that Aldi offers. I buy toothpaste and that kind of thing at the dollar stores, too.

I doubt I'll go back to couponing unless I can be convinced otherwise. :)

I saw a TV ad about a new program about expert couponers. It showed them buying $350 worth of grocery items for $3.50. What kind of successes do you have? What are your tips?

I don't quite believe it. In years past, I had trouble finding coupons for anything I needed. These days, I do find them for some OTC medications such as fish oil or calcium. I also find them for tooth paste and perhaps shampoo. But, I seldom find them for food. If I need cereal, I might find coupons for Wheaties, but the store brand is still cheaper. My best discounts are shopping on Senior Citizen's Day. I know many of you are not old enough or may not have that available. We started on the discounts when my DH turned 62 [he is a few years older than me.]
