I just finished reading the responses to a very similar post I made on "The Soapbox" team (it's Supposed to be a team of mixed liberals and conservatives), but since I've been on the team (a couple of years or more, now), all of the other conservatives who have come on have been run off. There is a core of about 5 liberal women who attack any conservative that makes any comment on the site, viciously.

I am high on the list of one of the most stubborn conservatives when it comes to facing down liberals.

This last topic brought out the "stupid" in all of them. They made excuses for Bloomberg, saying it probably saved the hospital a lot of money by not having to have all of that formula around (pure BS because they still have to keep some in-hand for woman who can't nurse and all of the goody bag giveaways used to be free from the companies).

Then I asked the same as I did here, what did they think would happen if this were a large Southern town with a Conservative Mayor who pushed this policy in place. They totally ignored the question and told me anecdotal stories about their experiences while nursing Their children (I really don't know what the percentages of mothers who nurse as compared to mothers who use formula - but it seems that the law of averages would mean that at least one of The Gang of Five would have had SOMEONE in their family who didn't nurse).

The last answer I received said I "was making a tempest in a teapot". I will leave it at that - I've provided all of the facts they need and even posted references from their favorite on-line publication, the "Huffington Post", and they still couldn't come up with anything that disputed my contention that Bloomberg acted like he was trying to build his own fiefdom - much like another liberal we have been trying to guard ourselves from for the past 4 1/2 years..

It's the Democrat in them. They were infected years ago and no one has bothered with trying to find a cure.

Can you imagine what would happen if a rich, Conservative mayor of a big Southern City would have forced his city council to pass a measure like this?

Why do the same people who favor fewer restrictions on business and corporations feel entitled to become so intimately involved in my most personal choices?

I totally agree with the idea that something has to give ... more nursing stations or not denying mother their natural born right to feed their baby as they had been designed to do.

I homeschooled my boys. I would go to conventions and conferences and I commented to She(WMBO) after the second one, "Everywhere you looked, someone had her braeast out feeding a baby. So different from when we were kids."
"So, um, why were you looking?"
"Did you not hear the part that went 'everywhere'? It's natural. So if I am in a room with hundreds of women with children, there will be scores of nursing babies. "

But still, bottom line, Bloomberg needs to butt out.

I'm sure if you follow the money you will see that breast fed babies cost the city hospitals and the medicaid system less than the bottle fed. Bloomburg, just be sure there are plenty of nursing stations and make sure that mothers have the right to breast feed in public. You can't have a "Latch on" program unless mothers have the right to nurse anywhere without harassment...that mean's buses, parks, restaurants, and even city hall and Gracie Mansion.

I missed this when it first reared it's ugly head in the middle of last year, but the discussion is still running hot and heavy. The last two comments had been entered 4 seconds and 5 seconds prior to my finishing the article.

So this is the Liberal contribution to Women's Rights?

Sorry. Bloomberg doesn't actually live in this universe now, does he?

Yes, I read an article from today's (April 4th) extremely right-wing (NOT) Huffington Post. Yes, I'm a subscriber. It follows under the philosophy (albeit, modified) of "Keep your friends close and your enemies closer". I just have to keep up with the left-wing Liberal taking points. Actually, I have been assigned by certain persons high in the Halls of Justice to spy on the liberals - Agent P. Turtle, that's me. My Controller is a MUCH higher authority than anyone in Congress.

Actually, I like this article very much. It gives New York City residents a reason to have him recalled due to mental incompetence.

All of my young acquaintances, mom's in my two son's generation, have given me some very heated rhetoric about what they thought about Bloomberg thinking he knew better than any particular mom.

Strangely (or not), the most vehement responses came from the young women who were breast feeding and are practicing Liberals. They were very protective of their sister's choice of bottle-feeding - for a number of reasons.

BTW, y'all know I come with a military background and have been in combat. My brother is a retired Marine Major and he has led Marines in combat and I know a number of his friends. I didn't think there was any combination of curses, epithets, etc., that I hadn't heard, not in English. Mexican Spanish, Vietnamese or German. Today, I learned three (3), THREE new combinations of words from these sensitive, gentle women. My face felt flushed (Oh, alliteration!).
