This looks as close as a spot to put this:

I am ticked at my fitbit; I have been working in the yard, digging, dragging, lifting, raking, shoveling and such; yesterday and today
My activity minutes? 7 yesterday and only 3 today!
Seriously; was sweating up a storm and working non-stop for a couple of hours....
I was shocked when I synched!

Thoughts?! emoticon

Stay the course!!

I'm pretty new to fibit and sparkpeople but I have enough time spent logging everything on sparkpeople let alone, fibit-no
emoticon

I started out top weight 245 but that was when I actually got on a scale. I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia almost 20 years ago. Over the years I've learned that I do so much better when I eat organic foods and I haven't eaten red meat in years I have been gradually working more raw foods, vegetables and fruit into my diet. I avoid drive through resturants like the plague.

I had been on Spark a year before the synch was launched. So, with a year head start, I don't see a reason to enter food in Fit.

One advantage, you can mirror your food in Fit by posting in Spark, but not vice versa.

So, my question is, why would you not want to use the food tracker of both programs, but limit your data entry to one?

I love my fitbit but. . .

the tracking does not sync to SP food tracker. I track my food on fitbit for more reasons than I can explain. However, just noticed since starting a challenge that the SP food tracker has a Weekly Progress chart in the lower left-hand side of the food tracking page. I have created my own table of SP suggested ranges, and daily totals from my fitbit tracker. Wouldn't it be wonderful if daily totals would sync forward into that weekly tracker?!!? Anyone else on board about this?? how could we lobby for this advance. . .

Thanks - and keep on. . .

I definitely notice when I do long hilly runs I get stairs added. I don't mind-I worked hard to get up those hills!

I drive school bus twice a day, and will get over 60 flights of stairs counted. When I go and add the activity (when I remember) it will adjust the stair count and step count.

So it isn't perfect in counting steps if you don't make your adjustment manually for any vehicle rides.

I haven't found it overly irritating. No pedometer is going to be exact. I've heard of people getting upset using different devises, getting different numbers. To me, it is something to help gauge my step count, not a exact science. I've used different devices at the same time and each on is different. .

Just remember if you go in and add a activity to get your stair count correct, you will also change your step count.

I love my Fitbit! emoticon

My clip holder lost a piece of it's backing, so I had to order a new one. It stretches out to easily, it seems as well. It falls out now and then.

I also Leslie Sansone's WTP - solved the step problem by putting the FB in my pocket or clipping to my pant leg... now it counts the steps better.

Also, if you push a grocery cart, it doesn't count the steps accurately if your FB is in your bra - have to place it in my pocket.

My fitbit is economical (or overgenerous?) with the truth. Gave me 25 flights of stairs when I jogged in the wind yesterday. (And considerably more on a bumpy bus ride!). But it does motivate me to try to get it to register 10000 steps, which I would never have attempted before. Sleep tracking is helpful, tho not always very reliable. I'd fade away if I only ate the calories FB recommends!
And I've unsynced mit with SP as it was inflating my exercise minutes. But I wear it constantly and much appreciate it, warts and all!

Weird. I've never had this problem, and my commute involves riding a bus into an area that increases in altitude enough to make my ears pop on a daily basis. I DID notice it counts super-steep grade hills, and most of my 'stairs' come from the steep-grade hills I have to deal with on my commute. Think it's where you're wearing your 'bit?

It doesn't do too bad following my Wii Fit Plus free step. It doesn't count walking stairs, but at least it counts my steps.

I have had it read inclines with bike riding before- but not the steps.

That is frustrating. I often walk with Leslie Sansone. I end up tracking on top of the synced steps.

I have bad ankles, so I have to do low impact exercise. I love using walking DVDs where you walk 3-5 miles. The only issue I have is my fitbit does not count a lot of the steps because I am walking in place. It under counts sometimes by 2 miles which is a lot of steps!!! I have to adjust my number of steps, which I hate to do.

From the Forums on Fitbit (I searched for stairs and clicked on two of the results about this issue)

"It would appear in your walking you may have gone up steep rises, gradients and hills, if not, we are aware of some issues where the Fitbit can generate phantom floors caused by wind, rapid changes in barometric pressure and storm fronts. Even riding in a motor vehicle on bumpy terrain there have been cases."

"Fitbit counts things like hills, air pressure changes, and elevations of 10 feet as stairs because it has an altimeter inside. I get most of my stairs through windy days and low pressure systems.

bumpy rides in vehicles. riding mower and bumpy mountain bike trails really add floors on my hubby's and my fitbit one. it also did it with the ultra when we still had them. everything else is A ok in my book. floors are irrelevant to us. :)

sometimes mine won't register steps and I've wondered about that. The site is not user friendly if you ask me.

If it's geographical I'm in trouble. I live on flat land.

Have you tried the FitBit website yet?? They'll try and help you. I know its frustrating. Sometimes mine does that because my PC says it's a security protection thing. I get a windows message saying it shut down my fitbit page etc.
What I do is force sync ny device(I have the ultra) on it and that seems to work after I reset my computer. Or I've been told to turn the charger upside down and with a paper clip or pin andpush in on that gold round lever. Also your fit bit should be on the base. Once you do that push the fitbit's button and you should see what levels your at for steps, miles etc.
Hope it's some help to you : ) emoticon

I've had similar experiences in registering "stairs"... especially on windy days.... one walk where I normally get 1-2 flights of stairs showed over 20 when all I was doing was leaning into a very stiff wind.

The other thing I note with frustration is that when my husband and I are walking the identical walk... he gets more flights of stairs than I do!

But those are small irritants... I love my fitbit. I have been wearing it daily since mid-October and forgot it for the first time this Saturday... sigh.

Kudos GMondello on the NO smoking achievement! Wow! That's awesome. As an ex-smoker, I know it's not easy to quit. I quit Nov. 11, 1976, which was about 11 months after my husband and I made our New Year's resolution to quit. He was able to quit more easily than I. It took me a little longer, but I made it before the year was up, so that should count for something. And am so glad I did!

I also love my little Fit Bit Buddy and carry him with me everywhere I go, well almost. We haven't showered together, don't plan on that.

Thanks for your input. I'm just putting on my jacket to take a walk in our newest snowfall and am going to be watching Fit Bit as I hike up the hills on my back roads here.

YES!!! I agree it must be from a raise in your legs as you walk a incline. It also show up when I've done jumping jacks during workouts.

Yep, when I go walking around home and go up a rise, I get a few flights of stairs added. I wonder if it is GPS capable.

That's funny. I had that happen once too, but didn't really think about it until I walked the next day same reps up and down and I had different results. Thanks for the heads up. I will advise my husband no conversation until I'm either all the way up or down.

I walk to the library and back. It's uphill on the way back, and I get 6 flights on that leg of the trip. As long as you go up 10 feet together, I believe it gives you a flight of stairs. At home, if I stop on a flight of stairs (that usually counts) to talk to my husband and then continue up, it doesn't give me credit for the flight.
I love my fitbit, too!

Has anyone else experienced your fitbit counting flights of stairs that you didn't climb?

I've only owned my fitbit for a little over a month and this has only happened a couple of times. The common denominator in both days, was that I was walking in an area that was pretty hilly. Now I am wondering if that has something to do with how it calculates.

The step count is accurate. And my walk today was my daily fun!
