Time to congratulate COMEONMA, who won both of our challenges for July: do something healthy for yourself, and do something you've been putting off.

Woo hoo!

If you're not yet signed up for either of these challenges, go to the main team page (just click on the name Caregiver Children above this box, where it says TEAM NAME: ) and scroll down to the challenges. Click the link on the right of the challenges, and it will put a tracker on your 'Other Goals' page. A great way to earn a few extra spark points, and feed your soul and body a little more often as well!

Also - glad you got to talk to some attorney's Judy. I had a feeling that it might ease your mind a bit to get some professional advice. These guys do this every day & usually really know what's what. Glad you got some relief from the pressure!

Thanks for the bit of info on the tazes there, Judy. No worries here though - lol - I never get mine filed before last minute anyway. Actually need to find a new CPA this year. The one we've had for MANY years is too far away, & we've reached the point of "diminishing returns" with the man I think. I tried doing ours last year - paid like $80 for the deluxe online H&R block help & it was hopeless. With the CPA, he knows all these extra deductions & stuff I'd never even heard of! Even had him do our daughter's, & it made a huge difference. I showed her Owing around $300, & he got her $500 BACK!!!! So. Somehow, we have to find the money to pay a CPA every year.

I'm sorry to say I've been doing LOUSY with my diet & exercise. But somehow, mysteriously, am not gaining a lot of weight. (like ANY?) I was beginning to worry there - was this like "unexplained weight loss??" - "Unexplained MAINTENANCE?" Seriously, the way I've been doing the last several months, I should have gained like 10 pounds. I usually DO. So what's different. I don't have any other symptoms I don't think, so I'm just going with it. Have no money & no insurance to see a doctor.

Jenn, sounds like you're doing a good job of making this down time productive, DH should be thrilled with the help.

I did contact the attorney (two in fact), and both were very encouraging. Looks like things were set up properly after all, and a lot of the fuss will not apply to mom's stuff. Not much sense in spending more money on filing the papers than the stuff is worth. As long as it is being given away, looks like we'll be all right. Still have to pay the inheritance taxes and fill out those forms, but have 3 months to do so. Waiting allows the rest of the medical expense forms to arrive, so the rush is slowed. One thing off the list.

Also, read in the paper that if you itemize your income tax, you shouldn't file before mid February this year, as the IRS hasn't finished writing its software for that yet, due to the late changes in the tax code. Hmmm. . .

Well I'm going to have to lay off a bit - have a "groin pull" which is starting to affect both sides (x2) due to compensating & forcing the issue. In the past when this was bothering me, I could walk ok, as long as I wasn't TWISTING or anything. Well, for now, I'm going to have to go on complete rest I think for - I'm wanting to say a day, but know it needs to be several - WHINE!!!!! There goes my weekly "step average". Was just trying to really get going again.

But - as in the past - what I need to do - is concentrate on what I CAN DO. Not what I Cannot do. That leaves upper body & abs & being even more vigilant with my diet.

Not to mention - hubby is needing help with our new website, so I will spend time on that. (a goal - getting that up & running)

Also - finally got the outside deco's boxxed up & will get them into the garage today with hubby's help. (Another Goal) He's being extra helpful now, because he wants me to help him with the computer - lol. Poor baby.

ok laters - hope all are doing well. Jenn

COURTI, sorry to hear of your loss. I understand. My goal is to get a handle on this whole estate thing, I expected it to be so simple but the pile of paperwork is overwhelming. So, my goal is to walk through this whole estate process with no procrastination.

Besides that, it is the new year, and I'd love to have the taxes done by the end of the month, so it's out of the way.

I'm impressed with everyone's goals, good for all of you!

Ok - here goes. I have SEVERAL things I'm working on, but only one that I have thought through (for the most part) & put in writing.

I will attain a weight of 145 lbs by May 1st.
I am 157 now, so that will be
a 12 pound loss.
I have 17 weeks to do this.
That is a mere .71 lbs a week = 2485 weekly calorie deficit.

This has been very difficult to do in the past, but I think I am underestimating my calorie deficits, because I have still lost weight with very small calorie deficits. (More than the 3500 cals per pound should be - so I'm probably burning a bit more than I'm accounting for)

What I am going to do to accomplish this:
Plan ahead & put my meals & snacks on my food tracker in the morning, or the night before.

Plan ahead for my exercise also. Would like to do this by the week - a big hurdle for me - have been doing what my body FELT like doing for so long.....

THANK GOODNESS FOR SPARK CHARTS!!! Yaaay!! While I mostly go by my own spreadsheet to track my calorie deficits, I would be lost without the food & exercise logs I have here!

***********

As I formulate & figure out other goals, I will put them on here. Mostly, I just have a long "TO DO" List! But I did start the list! And this was because..... of this challenge getting me to go FIND A LEGAL PAD & PEN.... hahaha Hey - hard to make a list when I'm too lazy to go find the paper & pen.

laters all - Good luck with your goals! Jenn

I'll get back with you on this. I've been so busy today taking down Christmas deco's & making dinner, I haven't had time to sit with a piece of paper. Seriously. BUT - the wheels are turning in my head!! I barely have 2 weeks until school starts - EEK - thought it was 3. So I have several things I want done, just before THAT. Getting the decorations down & put away is PART OF my goals, so at least I am working on it. And I DID strength exercise today in addition to cardio! Yaaay! Pretty sure that's one of my goals too - but I know - I need to get it all down on paper.

THANKS!! Jenn

So sorry for your loss Court. I lost my mom 2 years ago. It took some time before I could go through my mom's things.. A lot of the clothes went to charity. Every year my town has a get "get rid of old prescription meds" day, where people can turn in their prescriptions and they are disposed of safely. The police department runs it. Maybe you can call your police department and see if they have a similar program?

My goal is to reorganize my mom's bedroom. She died Dec. 22, in hospice. I have to decide what to do with her clothes and how to get rid of her pills, etc.

Right now I really need to get my house organized.. For the month of January, my goal is to organize my bedroom..closet, drawers, and all... Unfortunately, my bedroom has become a dumping ground for everything, mail, important papers, everything, and I really need to get it together, so, I will spend 30 minutes each day this month working on it..

It's the first day of a new year, and it's time for some new challenges to boost us on our way. This forum is where you'll find daily/weekly/monthly challenges. You are welcome to make suggestions here for future challenges as well. Don't forget to report in when you've completed your challenge, it will help encourage others, and that's a big part of our purpose here--support and encouragement as well as progress.

So, here's your first challenge of the new year:
DECIDE ON A GOAL, THEN BREAK IT DOWN INTO DO-ABLE UNITS.

It will only take a few minutes to take out a piece of paper and write down your goal. Then post it where you will see it. Is it to lose 5 pounds? Interview potential nursing homes? Use the computer to do a little research on senility or some other health issue? Read a book? Make it something you can realistically accomplish, it doesn't need to be something big. Just something you've maybe been putting off.

Now, what will it take to accomplish? If you pick a 300 page book to read, and read just one page a day, you'll get it done before the end of the year. Could you find time for one page? If you do just 5 minutes extra exercise, you'll lose a pound eventually. If you look up just one nursing home this week, even this month, you'll eventually work your way through the listings in the phone book. Get the idea?

Remember, today, your goal is simply to decide to make a small change in your life. Today's task is just to make the decision, and write it down, nothing more. And don't forget to reply and let us know what you've decided to work on, so we can help cheer you on!

Judy
