Happy Friday!!!

I was going to ride my bike to work today, but they were calling for thunder showers. I don't mind riding my bike in the rain, but not when it's mixed with thunder & lightening.

I'm going to a wedding tomorrow & I'm looking forward to it. I bought a new dress & it looks amazing on. Plus I'm getting my hair done for extra pampering. So I probably wont be to active this weekend..except for dancing the night away.

I was happy when I hopped on the scale today...I've stopped hovering around the 183-185 & am at 180. My goal was to be at 175 for the wedding, but 180, I'll take it.

CRYSBROWN - Sounds like your going to have an awesome weekend. When is your Olympic Triathlon??

Happy Friday everyone!

I hope everyone had a great week full of movement & activity! It looks like some of you are definitely on path to reach that 1000 minute goal which is great!

I'm looking forward to a fairly active weekend. Hiking tomorrow, 5K on Sunday & somehow I need to squeeze in a 2 hour bike ride...hmmm. I signed up officially this week for my first Olympic Triathlon so now I'm getting soooo nervous.

I have quite a bit of catching up to do as I have not been so diligent about updating my minutes although I have been doing my minutes which should count for something right?

TGIF...I'm so happy it's a long weekend for me. I'm off to the city with a friend tomorrow, for some clothes shopping. I'm excited about looking for a dress for her wedding. I can't believe I'm happy about shopping. I use to dread trying on clothes & looking in the mirror. I may not at my goal size, but I don't mind looking in the mirror now because I'm thinner & stronger than 5 months ago. And for that I feel beautiful.

CRYSBROWN - I started to ride a few years ago and it was just okay, it was exersice. It only lasted a few weeks though because I had a horrible wipeout that sent me to the ER. I couldn't work out for weeks after that accident so I became scared of riding. Sounds silly I know, but I think I rode my bike maybe 3 times after that. This year I've been riding more & acually love it. I wish I hadn't wasted all the times I could've ridden over the years.
Good luck with your Mad Mud Run...that sounds like soooo much fun.

BREEZE70 - Good job with your minutes so far this month.

Happy Friday!!

So happy that Friday is here especially since this is a long weekend for me...hooray!

I've been a busy bee this week with my physical activity BUT Sunday I will be put to the test when I *hopefully* complete the mad mud run! It's a 10K with all kinds of obstacles, can't wait but I'm scared.

BREEZE70 - great job putting in those minutes for the month! You have been a busy bee too!

Ms. Butterfly - do you actually like bike riding? I'm finding that it's more of an acquired taste for me. This morning I did two hours & because it has been raining all week in my state I ended up being a muddy mess! I'm not terribly upset though, I figure it's prep for Sunday's event.

Here goes the stats...

Hello Ladies!

Hope you are all doing well! I am soooo behind on posting my fitness minutes! Thankfully I put everything into the Sparktracker so I can go back & look.

Sally - hope that your basement is better. Also, I heard that that Chalean Extreme is tough stuff & really whips you into shape! No worries about the 1000 minutes, do what works for you! At least you are here putting in an effort & making healthy choices, that counts!

Ms. Butterfly - That is great to hear of your biking commute! If I didn't have to pick up my little one I think I would join you in that challenge! Part of triathlon training that I am trying to focus on is biking & I feel like I'm always on the bike, how many hours do you average per week for that kind of event? Right now I'm doing about 5 hours per week.

Well, last week was crazy, I missed out on my hiking trip which kinda stunk but it was raining heavily so there was really no choice in that. I did do a 5K with my mom & sis & had a blast so that was good. Overall a very good weekend. I cannot believe that it is already Wednesday! The week seems to be flying right by me. Bonus though I have next Monday off AND because it's Memorial Day the next week I have the Monday after off too! WOOHOO! Sunday I am doing something ridiculously challenging that I have never done before an adventure race. It was one of my goals this year to do one & I signed up but now I'm scared! The distance is a 10K which isn't a problem it's the running through cargo nets, mud pits, tires etc & the dreaded 5 foot wall, oh boy! The pictures though I'm sure will be hilarious!

Here is the catch up for this week...

So with the price of gas contunuing to rise, I've decided that I'm going to ride my bike to work a couple times a week. It's 22.05km & very hilly, but I can do it. It's one way to get in shape & save alittle money.

Sally - Sorry to hear about your basement. Is there lots of damage?
I'm doing the MS Bike Tour Leduc to Camrose. It's 2 days & 183km - 93km the first day & 90km the second.
It is very sad about Slave Lake. I don't have money to donate right now, it's a tough month for me. But I'm going to go through the house & donate stuff to help. It's not much but that's the best I can do right now.

Thanks Butterfly! I counted 100 mins for yesterday, although it took me all day to haul many totes and a pile of garbage and wet old carpet up the stairs, so that brought me up alot.
So how many kms or miles are you biking? Where do you go to? Isn't it sad about the fires in Slave Lake? I plan to donate some money to the Red Cross, wish I could do more!
Well, I better be off to the disaster area we call a basement!

Sally - Your doing good. The only reason I have lots of minutes is because I'm training for a Bike Tour & a few run races. Why not aim for 500 minutes this month.

Wow Butterfly and Chrysbrown, you guys are doing awesome! Chrysbrown, have a great trip! It sounds like fun - is it far from where you live? You will be putting in some fitness mins I am sure! Butterfly, good you are better! You did it right by getting some rest before you were completely run down.
I am hanging in here, and will weigh in tomorrow. I think I may be up abit but I was expecting that. Find I am really struggling with everything this week and I think it is coming out at my husband and kids. I find it hard to be a good wife and mom, employee and all sometimes - this week I don`t think I have been good at anything! Anyway, I need to get my head together and straighten out! I am thankful for what I have but some days I think I deal with stress better than others!
Well, have a great weekend, I will check in with my weight tomorrow!

Morning Ladies,

Well I haven't been feeling that great this week. I went for a run on Monday & struggled more than when I first started running. I couldn't figure out why I was struggling so much, as I'd ran this route before. I summed it up to it being hot out & I'm use to running in the cold. Well it turns out I was in the begining stages of getting sick and my body was exhausted. So I medicated up for 2 days, got lots of sleep (10.5 hrs a night) & didn't do any hard exercises. I skipped ALL my classes during the week & went for easy walks for only 20-45minutes. I admit on Monday I binged on junk food. The funny thing is, I didn't, & still don't feel guilty about eating all that bad food. On Thursday I woke up and my body said "I'm ready for exercise today" so I went for a 64 min power walk. I hopped on the scale today & was nervous as I did binge & haven't done as much exercise and to my surprise I'm down 1.5 pounds & I feel great.

I don't have much planned for exersice this weekend. I have a run planned for tonight & I'll do a long bike ride Saturday. I'm hoping to do 40km+. I have a bachlorette party to go to Sat night, so I probably will be in no shape to do anything on Sunday. Bad I know, but you have to let loose every now & then. emoticon

CRYSBROWN - Wow look at your minutes. Your rockin' it. You lost almost a lbs...Woo Hoo..that's good. It's better than a gain and all the "almost a lbs" add up in the end to something big. Have fun with your 5km & hiking trip, it's sounds like fun.

Sally - Hang in there. You can do this. This is not an easy thing to do. I find when I check into SP it helps me stay focused & inspires me to make healthy choices.

Date: May 11

Good Morning Ladies!

I hope that you all had a great week! I weighed in this AM & I lost almost a lbs, whoopie I guess! I am excited for the weekend as I am going away on a hiking trip on Sunday, that is something that I've never done & I cannot believe that I am actually excited to do that. Two years ago I would not have even attempted something like this. So with that said I'm going to get in some minutes this weekend. Also, I have a 5K tomorrow with my mom & sister which will be fun too. Because of this schedule change my workouts were a bit crammed this week since I won't be able to fit in my usual over the weekend. Really the only thing besides the 5K that I have to get done is a bike ride.

Sally - no worries! You are ALWAYS welcome here! It is hard balancing both diet & exercise & I bet when you check in it's helps! Hang in there, you are still being consistent & making the right food choices so that does count ya know!

Ms. BUTTERFLY - I bet you are still cranking out those minutes! You are going to be soooo prepared for your upcoming biking & running events!

Wow, you guys have been doing awesome! I shouldn't even be posting on this thread! I have been sticking with the healthy eating but finding it super hard to get my exercise in lately. Just kind of a gong show around here, water in our basement, work issues, kid stuff, etc - really it is the same as the rest of you, but you don't make excuses and get your exercise in! After I am done work, I feel guilty going outside and leaving the kids again to go running, and it has been raining so hard here the past few days, my gravel roads to run on are an absolute muck! Anyway, enough of my excuses - you guys are doing awesome and I hope to reorganize myself so I can fit it in somehow.

Thanks..It helps that I'm training for a 193km Bike Tour & the 10km Run in June. Once those are done I'll be taking it back a bit.

Good Morning Sparkpeople!

I woke up this Monday morning kinda energized & I hope that I keep that momentum all week long! I did get in my morning swim which is great because last week I had to skip it & I feel so much better being back on track. This weekend because I am going away I really need to up my workouts in order to get everything in that I have scheduled. It will be tough but I can do it!

Anyhow here are the stats from today...

Yes, Chrysbrown, I think you will easily hit 3000 mins at this rate! That is phenomenal! I am tired just reading about your exercise!

I work today and it is pouring rain so not sure what I will get in for exercise but will maybe even do some floor work tonight. I have my lunch packed for work so should be good on the eating part.

Hope you all have a great day!

Happy Mother's Day!!

I had a very nice day today, went to see a movie with DS#1 & DH made me some yummy pancakes with chocolate chips/butterscotch chips, not so healthy BUT I made relatively good food choice over the weekend so I'm ok with this...

Here are my workout stats...

DATE: 5/7/11
Type of Exercise: bike ride, 14.5 mph, not terrible, lagged during the last hour
Mins: 120
Mins/Mth to date: 591/1000

DATE: 5/8/11
Type of Exercise: swim & bike ride, brick workout, or at least attempted it, 1hr swim, 2 hr bike ride, not so good on the bike ride, 13 mph, just wasn't feeling the strength
Mins: 180!!
Mins/Mth to date: 771/1000

So with this being said & the rate that I am going due to triathlon training, even though the goal is 1000 minutes, I would say that I am going to give myself a personal goal of 3000 minutes. I have done over 2000 mins before so this amount will be hard.

Thanks for the info on the Garmin. I have debated one of those and maybe will as a reward one day.
That is awesome that you enjoy working out so much! I do like running, can't say I love workout videos but that is my best chance at ST so I know I need to do them some. It is nice, esp right now in the spring to get out on an early am and just enjoy the peace and quiet. I went out at 5:30 this am and it was beautiful. I didn't feel like doing it but am so glad to have it done!
Well, hope you all have a great Mother's Day!

Hi Sally:

I use a Garmin as a heart monitor/GPS, it is pretty close to Spark numbers. I tend to use Spark calories burned as being most accurate since I have learned that you burn more or less 100 calories for every 10 minutes of running. I

I guess I do sort of enjoy working out, I have to admit that it has become sort of a hobby for me, it's peaceful, no one bothers me & it clears my mind. Plus I like competing in events even if I am just mediocre. I think that it has become an acquired taste though because I haven't always liked working out, I just ended up finding something that I like which is important, no way I could stick with it if I didn't like it. You can't beat that feeling after you are done working out, it is simply euphoric!

Chrysbrown, I can't get over the minutes you dedicate to exercise. You are phenomenal! Honestly, I am sure it is not in me! Do you enjoy it? I am betting your body isn't losing any more wt because you are where you should be. I imagine you to be super fit, lean and just full of muscle, there probably isn't weight to lose! I hope you are healing well, what happened?

Well, I missed out on exercise yesterday and the day before but I did go running today. And actually, it was the longest and farthest I have ever run before. I went 4.25 miles which took me 60 mins. I don't know how I will ever get faster and I am really wondering just how the hell I figured I could do a 1/2 marathon!!!! It isn't until Sept but I am skeptical after my run today!

Do you guys use a HRM? I have a Polar one and I like it because it is simple but I am wondering about the accuracy of the cals burned. It said I burned 720 cals with my run. I did keep my hr up but when I put it into my activity tracker on SP, it said 500. It doesn't matter to me but I wondered what you guys found most accurate.

Well, I will put in my time for today and hope to get some more in tomorrow! Have a good weekend!

Good Morning Sparkers!

I ended up getting in my double workout last night & went to swim this morning, hooray! Hand still hurts but at least I put in the swim! Looking forward to a really nice weekend, Mother's Day for me so hooray for that too. Plus this marks the first weekend in over 6 weeks in which my family hasn't been down to visit, it will be so nice to have peace & quiet!

Good Morning Sally!

Honestly, I have no idea how you manage getting things together for 3 little boys! You must be super organized! Exercise is good & all & I am happy that I have built up such high endurance but quite frankly to lose weight it's more about diet anyway. With the amount that I exercise it still doesn't help with a loss if I am not consistent about a good diet, I try but I really like bad food! I hear all these real elite athletes out there that always eat such wholesome stuff & I envy that because that will never be me, I love fried food & mainly sugar! I guess my point is, even though you may not have the time just yet to get in your workouts fret not because eating well & taking in that water is doing your body wonders & you will certainly see results. I guess the motto is..."do what you can :)" I kinda like that this week because I suffered a nasty injury on my bike last Saturday & have had to switch up pretty much everything mainly to avoid exposing my wounds to swim. Tonight I will attempt swim but I am scared! I am scared that it is going to hurt so I gotta take it easy! Also, yesterday after I rearranged my whole schedule it ended up raining which meant biking was out of the question, especially since I hurt myself so bad. So I ended up getting a stationary bike workout but instead of slacking I pushed myself to do hills level 10, let me tell ya, sweat was pouring off of me! Sooooooo, I'm slowly learning to be flexible which I think we could also benefit from learning because life does get in the way however, it should be no excuse for us to do something everyday that will contribute to our overall wellness!

Okay enough preaching...here are my stats thus far today...

Honestly Chrysbrown, I don't know how you do it! I would be completely done for days if I got all of that exercise in! That is awesome!
I did not get any exercise in yesterday. I worked and on those days, it is a gong show getting kids to my mom's and home again in time for bed. I work again today but do hope to sneak even a little something in. My eating has been good and I have been getting my water in.
I hope to check in later with some mins! Have a great day!

GETTO10 - you ARE doing great!

I think that we are all starting off this month really focused to get results which is awesome! I did receive an email from VURGOGIRL our team leader so that I could ask to be co-leader, she agreed but I think that she needs to add me so that I can actually change/update stuff, not that that matters, it's all about the participation anyhow!

Let's keep it moving ladies!!!

Okay - let's get moving! For the month of May I challenge our team to do 1000 fitness minutes. It can be any kind of exercise that you like, the possibilities are endless. However, just walking to & from places or doing yard work doesn't count...sorry! It's not to say that these are not aerobic & lead to actual weight loss BUT I think that the point is to challenge ourselves to take time for ourselves even if it is just 15-20 minutes to work up a good burn & sweat for the purpose of just that. Here is the template...
