Congratulations on the new job, Kara! With my work schedule, I usually work out in the am...sometimes evening. You will adjust to everything soon... that is great, though, with an afternoon shift.. you can sleep in when needed! Again, emoticon !

Well, it's 30 degrees, but we had a blizzard this morning. Temps are supposed to drop to below zero overnight, but warm up a bit again mid-week. It's Minnesota --- if you don't like the weather, stick around few hours ... it'll change!

Hubby and I have started planning healthy meals for the week ahead, including at least one new pasta recipe. Yummy!

Kara - emoticon on the 1.4 lb. weight loss last week! Awesome! I did not lose, but, did not gain, either, so status quo for me...

Nutrition wise, I have been doing well... just have to watch my portions next week!!

We had something close to spring today --- sunshine, no new snow or rain, and temperature in the 20's! My dog and I took advantage of this and went on a nice, long walk. The sidewalks weren't all cleared and were quite icy in spots, but my dog was good about slowing or stopping when I told her, so we stayed safe. She was so thrilled!

Winter warnings are already in effect for the next couple of days, along with much colder temps. Looks like tomorrow will be a great day to plan nutritious meals for the week ahead. I've been eating well and lost 1.4 lbs this past week!

LOL, then I forgot all about it when it came time to have breakfast. That's okay... it's an idea for later this week. When it's below zero outside, probably better to have a hot breakfast, especially when I have to go out in the morning.

I have these smoothie mixes (powdered) from WeightWatchers that have a full milk serving in them (calcium and lots of other nutrients). If you make them with water, it's considered one dairy serving but it's two if you make it with milk. They're not many calories and made with milk or some ice, frozen yogurt, or something else cold and creamy they get thick, not quite like a milkshake but close. I have some that are peach-flavored and some that are chocolate. My snack tonight, I think, might be a peach one with some fruit tossed in. Would also make a good quick breakfast!

I love fruit smoothies, even in the winter time!

I've been doing pretty well in the nutrition area... really trying to watch my choices etc.... so far, so good!

I'm incorporating frozen unsweetened fruit, fruit canned in its own juice (no sugar added), and occasionally dried fruit. Got my two servings today, and my two of dairy, too.

That's great CJ! I am working especially on getting dairy and fruit in this month. In the summer when fresh fruit is more available, I grab it all the time, but in the winter months it's tougher. I have to think about it more and plan more.

Fruit with breakfast tomorrow --- canned peaches in their own juice over Kashi waffles with some slivered almonds, maybe a little Cool Whip Free. Yum!

I'm feeling pretty good, just a drippy nose sometimes, nothing too serious. We had burgers and fries today, but had them at home, so I was able to stay within my points/calories and enjoy the treat.

Got my dairy and fruits in today. Dairy is tough because I'm lactose intolerant. I can tolerate some, but after so many years of bloating and discomfort from dairy, a person kinda loses interest in it and loses the taste for it. So I have to remind myself and push myself a little. Fruit I like but it's just more difficult to find something reasonably priced in Minnesota in winter. I get the veggies, but not always the fruit. Although I wish something else would go on sale/reasonable price besides apples and bananas, LOL, I have met my 2 fruit servings goal today.

Thanks CJ! I ate out twice today, but stayed in my range! Amazing! I ate at Elephant Walk for lunch and had shrimp/veggie/tofu stir fry. I skipped most of the rice. For dinner we went to Chili's. I had chicken fajitas for 330 calories, plus 200 for the 2 tortillas and 60 for the guacamole. I love it when the restaurants have their nutritional info online! Did you know the "bloomin' onion" has about 2,700+ calories? I felt like telling everyone who was eating it to spit it out! Anyway, I had a good day, had lunch with my sisters and later dinner my hubby and had great food! It can be done!

Great calorie day for me, too! It was high on sodium, but that's because I ate out this morning with friends. That's not something I do every day by any means, so I am not going to worry about it. It was a special occasion in that rare to be able to get this bunch together.

So right Kara! I am starting with baby steps of not automatically salting every dish! So far I did not salt the last 2 dinners I had even though I wanted to and they were just fine! I will get used to less salt at the table and then I can work on improving from there!

I had a great low-cal day today! I'm not even sure why, but I wasn't craving food all day like I usually do! Yea!

We don't add salt when we cook or at the table, but processed foods --- soups and broths you use in cooking are notorious, as well just about everything, even pancake mix, have sodium. We have started making our own stocks and broths and some other things from scratch because of the sodium. Restaurant food is also very high in sodium.

I read somewhere in here that if you cut down on salt for one month, then things seem to salty. Our tastebuds can change! I love salt and salt everything, but I need to work on changing that! I can't even drink regular pop anymore after years of diet pop regular is too sweet! Anyway, I've been maintaining my weight really well and need to get in gear for losing again!

I made everything today except protein and just couldn't figure out why! Then I realized that when I manually entered hubby's homemade enchiladas, I entered just enough to calculate the WeightWatchers points --- and the sodium, since I do try to watch that. I never entered a protein amt and of course there's protein in the enchilada because of the cheese and lean ground beef. So I think I'm probably okay on the protein, too, and "made it" today. Boy, that was like balancing a bank statement when you just can't find the error. Then all of the sudden the light bulb went on, LOL.

Hubby made an Apple-Berry Crisp today (WeightWatchers recipe) and it smells fabulous! It called for craisins (dried cranberries) which we didn't have on hand, so he substituted "berry mix" which is dried cranberries, strawberries, and one or two other kinds of dried berries. My dog and I ate the extra apple slices at breakfast --- doggie was so thrilled, LOL.

It should be a healthy day, if anything a little under on cals because I have had some digestive troubles today. Trying to get my fruits and dairies in and so far, so good!

Good morning, class! Yesterday I had lots of cheese, so I made my dairy requirement. Hubby put THREE slices of cheese in my grilled cheese sandwich. It was tasty --- and the cheese wasn't all that high in calories since one slice was fat-free Swiss --- but I wish he had asked first. There was probably a lower-sodium way to get that dairy in.

On the sodium front, I was over. However, the last few times I've checked my blood pressure or had it checked, it's been excellent. Still, I'd like to keep the sodium down, if not under 2300 EVERY day, then most days. Sometimes I just pick the closest thing in the Spark tracker, and hubby actually uses no-sodium homemade broth in recipes or low-sodium products --- but entering the entire recipe every single time when he cooks from scratch most always is awfully time consuming. So sometimes I know my Spark tracker reflects more sodium intake than what I actually had.

Yesterday at the farmer's market hubby and bought a whole 5-lb.+ bag of apples. He's going to make various recipes with those. We bought lots of veggies, too, including mustard greens (had those in a salad yesterday) and even some homemade extra sharp cheddar cheese. He made two recipes last evening because both include fresh mushrooms he had and wanted to use up. We had the pizza hot dish (from WeightWatchers magazine) last evening (and have leftovers for today), and have a wonderful beef barley soup for today --- lots of veggies in that!

It's -12 here this morning, so I've decided it would probably be best and healthiest to stay in, have a devotion at home instead of church and exercise at home instead of the gym today.

I am doing well with the nutrition challenge the past couple days.

Kara - Yes, I have to watch the sodium, too!

It is easier for me to get the fruit servings in during the warmer months, but, I have made an effort the past 2 days to eat those fruits! Kara, I am the same... easier to get the veggies in during the colder months with soups and stews etc.

I just noticed the Recipe of the Day: "Carmelized Pears with Toasted Almonds & Yogurt"... that might be a good one to try! Nice and warm!

Overall, I'm doing very well. Getting in my dairy and keeping the sodium down are the biggest challenges. I seem to have an easier time with veggies than with fruit at this time of year, so am going to make 3 fruit servings a day my target.

Well, I stayed well within my calorie range today & drank plenty of water, but, did not do so well on my fruits & veggies. Met DH for lunch today & did not choose wisely. I will do better tomorrow. (As I mentioned in my post yesterday, the Nutrition tracker tells it like it is!)

I'm still doing quite well with this. The struggle for me some days is dairy. Sometimes I don't quite make it in the calcium dept. I am lactose-intolerant, some days can tolerate more than others, LOL. Guess I need to take a look before dinner to see whether I need to add another serving or take a calcium supplement that day! I'm grateful to have the nutrition tracker to help give me that feedback.

Well, here's to being honest.

Under calories (1750)- NO, chocolate found me again

1 1/2 cups veggies- no 1/2c.
1 1/2 cups fruit--- no 1 c.

exercise--- 1 hr of walking with both dogs!!! Wow, it felt great!! and plenty of resistance too, as the big one is still pulling hard. emoticon

Oh well, today is a new day! time for my oatmeal and raisins!

Katie, I hope your migraine is gone and you are feeling better!

Ravyn, you will do fine.. it's just a matter of getting back on track again, and you were not feeling well, so, I am glad you are better now and are back to join us!

I have done well with this challenge today and have plans for 3 more veggies for dinner, so, emoticon
today! I am not going over on my calories, actually, I have already tracked my dinner, and I am in the mid-calorie range for the day, plus, I have had 3 fruits and loads of water!

Hey ladies, we are looking smokin' hot! I woke up this morning very early with a screaming migraine. Wow, haven't had one like that since I can't remember when. After my medication and a healthy breakfast, I feel almost human again.

Tried a new chicken recipe last night from one of my WeightWatchers cookbooks --- Chicken Roasted over Squash. We used butternut and acorn squashes. Ooh, so yummy I can hardly wait to have leftovers today.

Good Morning, everyone!

I did great yesterday with staying on target! Yay!
I stayed well within my calorie range, ate several fruits and veggies and drank 11 glasses of water.

I am also on a challenge on another team re: water intake. I have never been good at drinking so much water, but, the SP teams have made me realize how important it is.

Jennifer, thanks for the link with the article about creating your own frozen dinners. I have been doing that & it is a wonderful idea. We tend to eat less & plus, after a long day, it is nice to have a healthy dinner waiting at home!

Valorie - With the knee replacements, I can see where the ski machine would be good. Gliding 45 minutes is a long time, though! Good for you!

Hi Ya'll I glided 45 minutes tonight and met all my nutrition goals.
YEA!

The gazelle is more like a cross coutry ski machine. There is no impact. I had bi-lateral knee replacements a couple of years ago and so I'm just now being able to fully exercise.

FYI, I actually "glided" 45 minutes yesterday. I was feeling much better after I got on my gazelle and just kept going. It's amazing how much of the battle is actually in the mind.

Valorie - we've all been there! Glad to hear you are getting back on track!

I went over by around 50 calories. Not too bad. I only ate one banana for fruit, I need to get more in tomorrow. I had plenty of veggies,so that's good! And I had lots of water.

Yesterday was a struggle for me! I just wanted to eat and eat! I had lunch at Panera and it was delicious! But even a half sandwich was over 400 calories. But at least I asked about the salad dressing and the counter girl looked up the nutritional info for me! That was so nice of her! I ordered the raspberry vineragette for only 50 calories, plus an apple for a side. Even so, I need to stay away from restaurant food!

My hubby and I went out for dinner to celebrate him getting a big check that we had been waiting on. I am back on track today,although I am hungry!

I was over on my calories. I did really well and was under until about an hour ago 8pm and lost it and ate emotionally. Tomorrow will be a new day.

I DID eat my fruit/vegetables and drank all my water today.

I am back, sort of. Had tonsilitius, strep throat, and broncitis all back to back since the week before Christmas!! I think this is a challenge to get me back on track!!

Stay under 1750 calories
8+ glasses of water
1 1/2 cups of fruit
1 1/2 cups of vegetables

Here is a new challenge! Can you stay in your calorie range? Can you eat enough fruits and veggies? Can you drink enough water? Of course you can!
