I've taken to wearing those clear "wrap around" safety glasses.... I love the idea of a screen door mask too... Can you imagine the "wind drag" from wearing such a thing? (Not that I ride fast....it's just that it always feels like I'm riding into the wind...) I wonder if there's a bug whistle ~ you know kind of like the wildlife ones they have to put on vehicles.... hey...maybe we just hit on 2 niches for the cycling market! Window screen bug masks and bug whistles! I agree about the bee farm.... at first I would be freaking out that they would go inside my helmet...and yup my mouth would be clamped shut too!! It always amazes me that bee keepers sometimes place their beehives so close to roads....poor bees! Happy riding everyone! (Hey I managed a 7km ride this morning...it was great!)
This made me laugh. I've wondered a few times if it could happen, but so far I've only had grasshoppers and cicadas bounce off my face, shoulder and helmet. I would definitely not want to inhale one of those critters!
Only I have the ability to decide how my story will end.
I had to laugh when I read this. This has become a bit of a freakout for me. There is a guy that lives about 5miles down the road from me that raises bees for honey and I get the worse guilt when they hit me as I ride by. All I can think is POOR BEE. I now slow way down and keep my lips clamped tight as I pass. I do not want one in my mouth!

I haver taste far more bugs than I like to remember. I put lip gloss on my lips before riding. Then the bugs seem to stick to my lips. I spit quickly a couple of times. It does get easier as you ride more. It is just a small issue compared to a glorious ride.

Oh gosh you're commitment is becoming second nature. Way to go! I eat bugs way too often myself, and I really hate it when I'm a really dry mouth and they get stuck! I've learned to 1) keep my mouth moister, and 2) quickly have a drink. Spitting them out doesn't work well. Glad to hear you are riding lots. It is a fantastic exercise IMO!!

That happens to me a lot! Usually just mosquitoes, thankfully. The worst time was when a honey bee landed against my teeth between my lips. I was going downhill so fast that the bee was held there for a few seconds before it flew free. I was panicked that I was going to get stung on the lips.

Well I must be getting on my bike a fair amount lately....this morning was the first bug inhaled of the season! Between gagging, trying to spit the darn thing out...my mind must have kicked into self defense mode as a thought entered my head.... .... "how many calories are bugs?" Kept me from dwelling on the darn thing because I shook my head that I had such a bizarre thought run through my mind ~ and made me smile at the silliness of it all!
