Yesterday, I did a bread experiment with pumpkin, apple cider, hi-protein flour, wheat flour, wheat germ, org. stone-ground cornmeal, and rolled oats.
It came out a bit heavy but interesting.. I pan-toasted a slice for breakfast today with my eggs and tomato juice. Very satisfying.
I'm having fun with this, because I haven't been able to have bread for a long time, due to an intolerance for a yeast protein, but I seem to solved the problem by having a capsule of Betaine HCL before each meal.

Are you kidding, LOL! Now, if we had a 'least nutritional food' thread, you'd get a whole other side of the picture, LOL (yesterday DH and I were tasting wine to decide which we should give as Christmas presents to his business partners... I'll use what's left to make Coq au Vin tonight for supper), but that would defeat the purpose, wouldn't it! I get most of my information from the blogs of others here at SparkPeople. If you want to know some of the beter blogs for this, I'll send you a list. The persimmon heads-up came from TRAVELNISTA. She is always researching something.
Then, literally a few hours after reading the blog entry we were in the store, and there were the persimmons... a whole section of them. We had no idea how they would taste, but decided to try them out. In the past I had avoided them... they didn't look all that appealing to me or Olivia, and the skins seemed really tough... and I had no idea what to do with them.
But since I now had the nutritional information I thought the same thing you did... it'd be silly not to try them... and they are GOOD!
I have to admit, though, that I am a food adventurer. I read cookbooks and nutrition books like they are novels, and I am always trying something new. And I need variety in my diet... I think it's one of the reasons I can stick to nutritious food quite easily... I have so many really good tasting things to choose from.
NOTE: My weight tracker is NOT a truthful representation of my weight. Instead, I am using it as a tool to help me visualize my goal as though it's already been achieved!
Do all foods that you eat go through the same process? Based on everything that you wrote, now I HAVE to try them. It would be foolish not to. They are packed with good stuff!

We were cluelssw, too, LOL... you simply take the top off (stem and cap), slice it up and eat it!
Here's some info:
"The health benefits of persimmons is that they twice as much fiber as an apple, high in potassium, have high concentrations of vitamins A and C. They also contain many B-complex vitamins such as folic acid, vitamin B-6, thiamine...etc. Persimmons also contain healthy amounts of minerals like magnesium, copper and phosphorus.
Persimmons are native to China however the Japanese consider it their national fruit. Both cultures use the persimmon for natural remedies. The Chinese use it to cure hiccups. The Chinese mix it with fresh ginger, some water then steam it and eat it.
Other Health Benefits:
Cold and flu: Thanks to its content in vitamin C, persimmon is highly effective in enhancing the immune system function and can help relieve the symptoms of flu and cold, as well as many other infectious or inflammatory conditions.
Constipation: Due to its high content in fiber and water, persimmon does have excellent laxative properties that can be a powerful natural remedy for constipation.
Diuretic effect: Persimmon does have excellent diuretic properties, due to its high content in potassium and calcium. Eating a persimmon a day is an effective way to prevent or relieve water retention. Daily consumption of persimmon is better than the use of diuretic drugs, since persimmon does not cause potassium loss which is associated with many known diuretics.
High blood pressure: Helps reduce high blood pressure and prevent many heart conditions associated with hypertension.
Liver health and body detoxification: Persimmon is an excellent source of anti-oxidants which play a key role in liver health and body detoxification. Anti-oxidants help neutralize toxins and other harmful substances in the body, prevent and treat the damages caused by free-radicals.
Natural energizer: Persimmons are highly digestible fruits and also provide a lot of readily available energy (in the form of sugars) to sustain any energy-requiring activity. Thatfs why they are particularly recommended for children and people who practice sports or other physical activities.
Stress, tiredness and fatigue: Due to their high content in sugars and potassium, persimmon juice can help reinforce the body with energy and relieve the symptoms of stress, fatigue and tiredness without the need to use special energetic and nutritional supplements."

Hi, everybody! I have a BAD cold all of a sudden... craving anything COLD with moisture... over the course of today: an orange from the fridge every hour or so, and chicken quinoa soup (quinoa cooked in homemade broth) every time I feel really hungry... the protein/carb combination helps me feel stronger, and it satisfies my low hunger point without feeling heavy... and I'm drinking what feels like gallons of HOT water... soothes my throat.
