My January jumpstart challenge was to speed up my daily walk. I have increased my speed from an average 20 minute mile to a 17 minute mile. I am hoping to eventually get to a 15 minute mile but for now that speed throws me off the back of my treadmill but I will keep working towards it.

Hi everyone! How did your January Jumpstart go? I was able to get in several days of 90 minutes of cardio! I burned alot of calories through exercise (16,519 according to my spreadsheet)! That accounts for 4.7 of the pounds I lost!!! The rest came from keeping within my calorie range EVERY day this month. So......drum roll please.... 8.6 pounds down!

Stay tuned for the February challenge!

Prior to January I had slacked off on exercise. My January jumpstart is doing a 28 day 10min exercise challenge and working out 15 minutes on my total gym 3x a week. I have been successful in doing both throughout this month!

I am jumpstarting with some serious calorie tracking. I am really bad about skimping or straight up fibbing to myself about what how food counts, so now I have to be honest so I can see it all laid out before me. Even if I blow over the calorie goal for the day, I am still tracking it and keeping myself responsible for what I eat.

Well the year started off on shaky grounds.New schedules in family members work time has turned my schedule topsy-turvy! Result ... Got no planned workout in and logging my food intake was helter-skelter.Anyways, life goes on and this will be my world for awhile. So whats a girl got to do? Like Michael Jordon said ... "Obstacles don't have to stop you. If you run into a wall, don't turn around and give up. Figure out how to climb it, go through it, or work around it." I am certainly not going to let these obstacles stand in my way this time! Even if I have to use a bulldozer, I am getting past them!! Anyways, the question is what are you doing to jumpstart your year? Well, because of the changes mentioned above I have to cut back on my gym time so what I will do is add an afternoon home workout session to make up for the lost gym time in the morning. In addition I will make these sessions HITT workouts. This plus being more "strict" with my calorie intake should give me a great jumpstart on the year.

Lots of new hour long classes at the gym. Am used to the 30 minute ones so I think I will try these and see if the additional workout time helps to boost the weight loss.

Back to basics for me too. Logging all calories. Strength training on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. Cardio on all other days for 30 minutes. This is a minimum I would like to accomplish. I also need to get back on track with my water. I did really good until just before new years and then fell back into old habits. Time to get back on board :)

Great article!! I'm going to jumpstart things by doing the following:
1. changing it up: I'll mix up the walking mileage and how many points I eat daily. (I do weight watchers)
2. up my protein.
3. take inventory- stress is a doozy...
4. attempt strength training. I've tried to get that going but so far it's been a bust.

Great article! I am going to try several of the jumpstart tactics. I have always heard that diet sodas increase your appetite and can cause weight gain, so...my temporary ban will be on diet sodas to see if there are any benefits. I will also try the calorie variances, eat more protein, and get more sleep.

Once I am completely recovered from my oral surgery, I will be working regular exercise back into my daily routine. Taking weights, step, and videos to keep at school to workout after the kids leave.

Setting small, manageable goals that I can gradually implement to get back on track. I was doing so well until I started working. It is time to incorporate the healthy habits I had in place with my new status as a teacher!

i've been off track the last few months, so my jumpstart will be:
1. journaling .. everyday, staying within calorie and fat ranges
2. getting my water in everyday.
3. double to triple workouts. morning, lunchtime (maybe) and evening. at least 5-6 days a week
4. WEIGHT TRAINING 3 days per week.
5. finally, quit smoking...

Using my digital scales to accurately portion my food. I also have a couple of new dvds to add to my walking.

Read the article and there are a couple of items that looked interesting. But I think I will start with the intervals. I do a lot on the treadmill and and am working on the C25k program 3 days a week, so I will try the other 3 days of cardio.

Since I will be having surgery on Jan. 5 and exercise will be limited I am going to concentrate on tracking my food intake and maybe do some calorie cycling.

Thanks for the article! I'm going to track all of my calories. My goal is also to get to the gym at least 5 days a week for 45 (working my way to at least 60) minutes of cardio each session and start ST.

Thanks for sharing this article. Since I have been so off track during December, my jump start is to actually get back to daily tracking and exercising 4-5 days a week.

I am going to focus on actually eating enough protein everyday, I almost always fall below the recommended level (don't eat much meat and I hate beans so I have to make an effort with it.)

I'm focusing on walking in my "zone" for at least 45 minutes during my treadmill exercise. My daughter returned to Spark last night (WOOHOO!) So I will be doing my treadmill workout and a mile of outside walking with her also.

I read the article. Thank you for sharing. To jumpstart my program in January....I am going to change up my eating. Not get stuck in the rut of eating the same thing over and over again.

And..I am going to give the resistance bands a try.

Track all my calories - I'm really good at getting breakfast and sometimes lunch tracked, but then it's always too much of an effort to get dinner and later snacks in. emoticon

One of my biggest culprits is eating 'peanuts' -- yes, I love peanuts. In January, I will stop altogether eating peanuts. I will continue with my personal 3000 fitness minutes per month.

Hi team!
It often helps to do something different to jumpstart your weight loss or your commitment to a healthy lifestyle.

Here's an article about eight different ways to jump start:
www.thatsfit.com/2009/12/03/diet-pla
te
aus/

What are you going to do in January to 'jump start'? Share your ideas on this thread!

My January Jumpstart will be to do two cardio sessions a day on three days of the week (am and pm). My plan on those days will be for 30 min in the morning and 60 min in the evening on Saturday, Monday, and Thursday.
