I don't know about you, but I find I need a little more motivation to maintain good eating and exercise habits in the winter. It's not just the holidays, but the weather and the temptation of comfort. If it's cold outside, it's harder to climb out of a warm bed in the morning to hit the streets running. And the warm, cozy, fill-me-up food and drink temptations seem a whole lot more comforting than that cold spinach salad that got me through the summer.
Do you have any tricks, thoughts, or hints that help you stay motivated? Maybe you have a photo of a favorite celeb that keeps you on track. Or a quote, or a person?
One thing that motivates me is, of course, the scale. I weigh in daily to keep myself in check, and have a "warning bells" weight that I've given myself. Once I see that weight on the scale, I know I better lay off the oatmeal cookies.
The daily weigh-in thread on the message board helps me stick to this too - when you know you have to share your weight with the world, it gives you a little more motivation to keep it on track.
And sometimes when I'm standing in my kitchen, about to eat something, I ask myself, "Would you rather eat this, or see a lower number on the scale tomorrow?" Or, "Is it worth eating this if it means tomorrow morning the number on the scale may be higher?" Sometimes the answer is YES, it's worth it. Haha... And sometimes it's just plain NOT.
So what tricks or tools do you use to stay focused?
"Everything in moderation, including moderation."
- Oscar Wilde
"It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness, it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity, it was the season of Light, it was the season of Darkness, it was the spring of hope, it was the winter of despair, we had everything before us, we had nothing before us, we were all going direct to Heaven, we were all going direct the other way..." -
