Still struggling with mainlining chocolate when I feel stressed about something. I am like a crazed lunatic. Ugh. I really need to figure out a better coping mechanism!

Thanks for sharing this Anni. I too am starting to feed on the Bread of Life rather than the bread of this life. I read in a bible study I am currently doing that often we eat to fill a void, and more often than not the thing we truly need is spiritual food and not earthly food. I have been trying to read scripture, pray, sing worship songs, etc FIRST, before I give in to the desire to eat when I am upset. Really has helped me.

Emotional eating used to be a horrible problem for me. It has gotten better in recent years, as I've learned to listen to myself and obey the Holy Spirit more.

I read a book by Elyse Fitzpatrick called "Love to Eat/Hate to Eat," and it really helped me change a lot of my eating behaviors. In it, she had an acronym for DISCIPLINED EATING, and each letter asked a question related to eating behaviors, and gave Scriptures to help reinforce correct eating behaviors in relation to those questions. I highly recommend the book.

I ended up making a chart of that acronym, and it's posted on the side of my fridge, where I can see it every day. Sometimes I ignore it and eat anyway, but many times it has helped me stop sinful eating.

Several of us have mentioned that emotional eating is a big problem for us. So I thought it might be useful to have a thread where we can share any helpful tips or ideas we discover or read about. More importantly, this thread can be a place to shout out for help and support when you're having an e crisis and need someone to pull you through. So I encourage everyone to subscribe to this discussion--that way, even if emotional eating isn't an issue for you, you can offer your support and encouragement when someone else posts here.
