I won!
Going out to a restaurant is much easier than going to an old friend's birthday party where the cake (actually 2 different kinds this time) is sitting 6 inches away from me with that come hither aroma and sugary, creamy roses. It is a true battle for me to resist the offer of the the "best, gooiest frosted corner (my usual). Today I took a tiny square of each cake and scraped off the frosting--okay, most of the frosting. When I came home and tracked every bite and sip I discovered I was actually still under my calorie count and I got to make myself a nice healthy snack.
I feel like this day I was able to slay a dragon!

Good Friday Morning! It is 10:24AM here. Cuddles has been out and it is misting/raining very lightly at 47F. Miss Vert T Gohe has remained my companion sticking closer than Cuddles...and THAT is saying something!
emoticon emoticon I just read that the single biggest key to weight loss is to remove processed "convenience" foods from our diet....that the American diet consists of more than 62% processed food. So if we eat more fresh fruits & vegetables which our bodies will enjoy....and they don't have all the chemicals in them...that researchers are showing directly contribute to obesity, diabetes, cancer, heart disease and other ailments...we would be so much better off. Strawberries, for instance has about 700 nutrients....what a way to go!

You are most welcome! Time for bed for me too! A long day...I completed items I couldn't do for the last few days...I contacted our remodeler for the bathroom on some issues that needed clarity, ran the dishwasher..
Who knew that loading & unloading a dishwasher would be so hard!!! emoticon
I fixed dinner, and with hand on railing and cane in right hand,
Cuddles by my left side went down to the basement and did 2 loads of laundry. Yes I am very tired but so glad I completed this much...
the vacuuming and bill paying will have to wait until tomorrow! And I signed up for the Diabetes Expo in October. Tomorrow I will try & go
to the gym with dh and get into the pool if the vertigo is completely gone!

So that was my very busy day for me today! Sweet Dreams Everyone emoticon and may we all have a restful night! emoticon emoticon

Golddusttwin: You sure know how to dress up a nice note ! Thanks for sharing. We too up here in NY are having those cool nights. But I still have some morning glories, purle& blue!
Sedium, wave puninia which I planted four years ago and they come back every year? I don't ask how, I just Thank God for the addition to the flower bed.

Still have some tomateos on the vine and lettuce. Will be missing those when they are gone.The stuff in the stores just isn't as good as home grown.

Sounds like you are having a grand time with the house remodeling! Enjoy yourself. I"m off to a couple of parties this weekend and have to plan what I'm taking to make sure that I have something that is heatlhy to eat.

emoticon Good Morning Everyone!
Just a catch up on how things are going here.
emoticon My gardens are pretty much done for the year...a lonely hibiscus is blooming, sedum and Russian sage, morning glories and mums ...off the top of my head. emoticon It has been so dry here...new record for the driest in almost a quarter of a century! Temps are getting down in the low 40's at night now.

I am carrying in & out my basil, rosemary & some chives as well as my Jasmine, miniature rose and other house plants. emoticon I have taken my amaryllis down to the basement to dry and get ready to bloom for Christmas and taking my Christmas cactus down there today.

We plan to get a little more done on the bathroom this weekend, go to our Assistant Pastors birthday celebration and hopefully pick up the lights, medicine chest & fixtures for the bathroom.

I enjoyed sleeping with the window (singular) open last night...it was 44 this morning! Cuddles hurried to do her business and get back inside! Have a great day! Have a great weekend and do something fun! I get to see the grandkids and Cuddles is happy about that...she would much rather be with them than me!

Just stopping by to let you all know that even after the 8 week Challenge I have found that as long as I continue on with the knowledge that I have gainned after the Challenge I am still losing weight and inches. As of today I have lost 12 pounds and 18.5 inches ! WoooHooo

Thanks Coach Tanya for setting up a great program for those of us with this deadly disease!
I am finding it much easier to eat healthy foods and feel good about life in general. No more "Poor Baby" because I can't eat all of those carbs!

Thanks PRAIRIECROCUS I have found others a few topics down ! We had a few that made it with me to week 8 and wanted to end this challenge with them. This is my 4th trip down the challenge lane and had started a Week 9 & after topic heading, so many people don't stick around once they finish. Even I found myself drifting away! I do so much better here connected to those working out the challenge!
FBS: 130 and I know why. Kashi crackers. When I purchased the box I knew that I should put on my glasses. YOU HAVE TO READ THOSES LABELS ! Thinking that there was fiber that you could subtract from the carbs, surprise there wasn't and I had stupidly eaten two servings by the time I picked up the box and read the label to see that there are 17 g of whole wheat in the product, NOT 17 g of fiber!

Week 8 Day 1 FBS: 68 two points too low ! Lunch was better pre-lunch 79 !!! It really is working, I have cut my insulin in 1/2 from when I started this challenge. That is wonderful. Now to see how long I can continue to eat this healthy meal plan that I have set up for myself.

I have done the strength training today and put in my time with 15 min on the stationary bike and 15 min on the gazelle walker, and 2 sets of 15 min each weeding out the gardens. And I do have to say that the weeds look much better than the plants. Kinds that I have never seen in my garden before. Last Nov we had 15 trees taken down in the back yard area and the sun does shine back there now ! So everything is growing as long as it rains now and then.

Hope that you all find where I have been posting! For week 8 doesn't seem to have a daily chat area set up ! Consistence seems to be one of my best friends. Come on , we can do this challenge, there is only one week left.

Golddust, I'm still staying firm with the healthy habits I learned during the 8-week challenge: exercising most days of week, watching my carbs, eating more vegetables and finally drinking 8 glasses water/day--something I was unable to do do during the challenge. Blood sugars are in a healthy range again, I am exercising daily, and eating healthy meals, the challenge was great, it won't stop here, I have been feeling so much better these days!

When the Daily Report gives me a big number, for calories,

FBS 118. Feeling better and more energetic-ready for my 2 weeks vacation starting March 26th!!
Yay!!
However, I need to work on exercising more. My problem is that they work me to the bone on my nightshift at the hospital-I run all night. So, I am constantly moving around. to me that will count as exercise-with all the bending, and pulling people up, etc. Walking constantly.
I am so tired in the mornings after my shift I just want to go home and go to sleep. emoticon emoticon

I just finished the eight week challenge. I learned to track all my food and exercise. Looking up the nutrition on line for various eateries has been informative. I have had a cough for five weeks now. Not sure if it is allergies or what. I think my having to suck on vitamin C drops though sugar free may effect my fbs. It is 133 this am. My weight loss has been extremely slow and sometimes quit frustrating. I will continue to follow this plan and perhaps tweak my nutrition a bit.

FBS is 126 today. I forgot to take my meds yesterday. The dr. visit went so-so yesterday. My A1C is 6.3...I thought it would be lower, but he did lower my dose of glyburide. So that's a step in the right direction. My cholesterol had gone up...that's probably because I stopped take the fish oil supplements on a regular basis, so I have to get back on track with that.

I have to get re-committed to eating properly. I'm doing some things well, and going backwards with some others. Part of the problem was eating too many carbs because of the low blood sugar. That shouldn't be a problem now. The rest is my lack of discipline when it comes to eating. I'll continue to watch the fats and start taking the fish oil reguarly again. We'll see how things are going in 3 months.

I see some of the comments I posted earlier have been lost again. :-)

I always dislike the time right before lab tests that you have to be NPO for. A1C's you just don't eat-you can have water. In fact we tell people to drink water so they do not become dehydrated. Harder to get a good blood sample with deydration and it is not good for the patient, either. It is only 8 hours that one has to abstain from eating. Do the sugar before you go without eating to make sure it is OK.

I think it's terribly difficult to work a night shift...your body rhythms are out of sync with the world around you and the activities that normally take place. I can understand why you would be tired.

BS = 106...I started exercising again this week, and I've been very hungry around bedtime. This has led to more snacking. Last night it was 2 peanut butter-filled cookies, lite cheese, and smoked turkey. That was 300+ calories after dinner. Whoa!

However, in the morning right after work I feel like my hubby needs to scrape me up off the floor with a pancake turner I feel so tired, crappy and like someone has taken a 2x4 to my whole body.
