Well, it's week 8 and have been pretty good with keeping up with the weight loss challenge.
My long term goal is to keep using portion control when I have my meals, so I don't go overboard on any one thing. And to keep up an exercise routine, where I'm doing cardio or strength training 5 days a week.

Hi, I am almost finished this Diabetes Weight Loss Challenge. Woo hoo! I am glad I have made it this far. Pardon me for congratulating myself! It took a long time for me to get started.
I admire your goals, CindyLou4782, and all of the other goals I see here.

My long term goals are:
* to keep getting healthier and live longer. I want to spend as much time with my daughters as possible.
* to reach my goal of 160 lbs by March 2015, and then revisit what my weight should be
* to find out if I can take less cholesterol medication in 2015
* to keep off the starchy foods even after I have reached my goal weight - to maintain
* to keep up the exercise regimen I have started here with SparkPeople. I already have more energy than before.
* to keep believing in my motto: I CAN DO THIS !!

My biggest goal is to lose weight and to continue to keep my blood sugar under control without having medications to do it. Exercise and keeping an eye on my carb intake is key for me. I found out pineapple, raisins, and hamburger is an instant blood sugar raiser for me.

My goal is to achieve and maintain my goal weight of 140, and to continue working out 6 days a week. I also want to learn to eat a more balanced diet. I have a very hard time eating enough protein for some reason. Never would have known it without the tracker!

My biggest goal is to maintain my weight loss and to continue to keep my blood sugar under control without having to return to medications to do it. Exercise is key for me and I've learned that is just how it is for me. No exercise, no control. My A1C was 11.2% back in December 2013 and now I've got it down to 5.7% with the weight loss and exercise!!

My ultimate goal is the same as the day I rejoined SparkPeople - to be healthy for my new grandson who is expected in August. I have learned a lot of things about myself in the last 8 weeks and I want to continue to grow and to discover the choices that work for me to be healthy. Thank you for this challenge

I will to get to my goal weight of 122 by November of 2014.

Long term goal is to lose another 70-80 lbs. To make exercise an enjoyable activity that I look forward to rather than the chore it is now. As I get fitter, more activities will be possible and that will help to find the activity(s) I like more. I'd like to get off all meds for as long as possible.

Long term goals: I've got 9 pounds left to lose reach my goal. Then my goal is to maintain for a few months in hoping to reduce the flabby flesh from the weight loss if possible. If I'm able to get the flabby flesh shrunk down, then I'll consider losing another 15 pounds to reach the weight I should be at. I plan to continue increasing cardio and toning exercises and tracking my food, increasing veggies and decreasing sweets even more.

Long Term Goals: To test everyday. To eat something everyday. Lose of appetite is a major issue with me. To keep up with the exercises, they make me feel better. To stay positive. To keep learning and improving. I want to thank the team leaders for this remarkable program they put together, I have learned so much and it has helped me to better understand what is happening in my body and mind. I have learned ways to keep things under control, and you put me on that road to success.

Again, thank you for this challenge.

I really want to say that this has been one of the best challenges that I have participated on. I am a relatively new member of SP(March 13th) but thanks to challenges like this one, I have really learned a lot about how to manage diabetes. I read as many articles as I had time for, taking notes and making adjustments in my food plan. I am not saying that I do this perfectly but I have established some really good habits that I hope that I will continue with for many years to come. I now take my FBS upon rising. I have done my best to follow the SP Diabetes meal plan and I am working on both getting in more vegetables and water every day. I am limited in my mobility but I have struck a happy medium with doing the chair aerobics both here on SP and with some dvds that I bought on Amazon.com. I have both lost weight and inches during this challenge as well as lowered my FBS from 116 to 103.

My short term goal is to get that square in the mid-90s on a non-exercising day. My long term goals are to be both in Onederland and in the "overweight" BMI category as a Christmas gift to myself this year.

emoticon Good Morning Team!
The heat has arrived and rain expected so that limits my time in the garden.
In the garden for 3 hours so far today
1. I have so many day-lilies to move. and
2. My hostas that are under the apricot tree. we are re arranging some of my beds so it is easier to mow. The hostas will go in the windbreak by the fairy house i plan to do.
3. I have lilacs to move to continue the row in front of the windbreak, south side as I add rhodos to the north side.
4. Also adding lilacs along one side of my vegetable garden
5. Making a fence around my blueberries
6. Re-doing the garden fence
etc. etc. keeping busy and I have tons of pruning deadwood and those rascally brambles to pull so I am keeping busy emoticon

I completed the challenge and like the results; I will continue with the fitness and nutrition programs as I only have eight more pounds to my goal weight. After that I need to learn how to maintain and maybe even try to lose a bit more. I also need to continue to pay attention to what I am eating each day as I am pretty sure what got me into difficulties, besides use of prednisone was eating too many high carb snacks. I have made a good start on getting control of limiting myself to one small high carb snack a day which seems to be for me the best way to control the craving. The program has been very helpful and I keep recommending it to others. Is their a maintenance group?

My long term goals are:
1) to loose at least 40 more pounds.
2) Come off blood pressure meds (which will be very hard because we just had to add a 4th bp medicine. This was very, very discouraging!).
3) Continue water aerobics at least 3 times a week and possibly do floor exercises 3x a week. Am not getting the weight and inches results that I want from 5 days water aerobics and 1 day floor exercise. But I am able to move better. (arth. is not as bad)
4) get rid of diabetes
5) have more energy- it is better since I lost 30# but is still not very high. If I work out for 1 1/2 hr that is about it for the day.
6) increase my veggie intake- do not get 5-6 servings a day.

I am in the process of fine tuning my long term goals. #1 I am working on Long Term Planning of my Meals. Must include more fruits and RAW vegetables. Included in this plan is making one new recipe at least twice per week. For instance, I will make steel cut oats in my Slow Cooker so they are ready to eat when I get up in the AM. Then, I will make a NEW meal for dinner. #2 Continue tracking my exercise. I have found the Spark People Videos really help me spice up my daily exercise. After using the Videos with Coach Nicole's enthusiasm, I find I am really motivated and I do more strength exercises. And, when I get out to walk I am adding in some fast spurts to increase my cardio experience. #3 Take 5 minutes every morning to do Positive Visualizations and see myself Healthy and without Diabetes. #4 I will fly and only need ONE SEAT on the airplane. #5. Long Term lose 150 pounds.

Quit smoking 09/09/05

Lost 50 in 2009.

My long term goals include: eating 6 to 8 servings of fruits and vegetables a day, continuing to exercise 5 to 6 days a week; including strength training and cardio workouts. I will continue to take by blood sugar 2 x a day. My goal is to lose 63 pounds and be able to not need the diabetes and blood pressure medication. To reach my goals I will continue to learn how to cook healthy meals, learn how to use spices and herbs to season foods and look for solutions to possible setbacks or problems.

Making better choices in my what I eat. And mentally telling myself do I need that piece of chocolate or chips. And following my meal counts of how much calories I have eaten. And continue to challenge my exercise goals as well.

I will continue to work on reducing my weight and achieving better control of my diabetes by:

Continuing to watch my portions; make healthy substitutions; eating more fruits and vegetables; monitoring my carbs; checking my blood sugar at least 3 times a day; and being physically active.

My long term goal is to lose at least 100 pounds.

I took this challenge because I am predisposed to Type 2 diabetes. I've lost weight during my participation in this challenge. My long term goal is to loose another 40 lbs. To eat healthy and track my food choices. To continue to add exercise in to each day. But most of all, I promise myself to log in to SparkPeople every day for the duration of my life. I know that the motivation that I've received here from the challenges, the applications, the information and the support of others is the only way I'll be able to maintain a healthy lifestyle. I'm grateful. Thank you coaches!

I think I can. I know I can. I will.

My long term goals are to continue to track food and fitness so that I loose weight. To continue to regularly strength workout with my personal trainer 3 times a week, and to do 30 min minimum of cardio on most days. I really want to reduce or get off my diabetes medicine but time will tell if that happens. I am doing my best to achieve a healthy life.

Long term goal: Keep exercising 20 minutes a day, at least 4 days a week.

My long term goals are:
1) Get A1C levels back to normal.
2) Be able to shop for clothes in the regular women's department.
3) Weigh below 150 pounds.

The 8-week challenge was a good start toward those goals. I will continue to use all I learned to get the rest of the way.

Continue to work on my diet for diabetes. By doing this daily I have almost forgotten that I actually have diabetes. Spending much of my time developing new habits and behaviors that I never had to worry about. It seems it occupied most of my time now. Sparkpeople does have a great program and the people are great with their support. It would be so much difficult without all of you. Good luck on your individual challenges. Maybe they will be able to make diabetes a thing of the past in our lifetime.God bless everyone.

Thank you Kay for the encouragement. I read people posting fasting glucose numbers and there are alot of sub 100 numbers reported. I have had less than a handful of those. Sometimes managing the carb requirements still doesn't guarantee good scores for me. It seems like there is always something. There is always something more to do.

Sure you can do it, all you have to do is keep your blood sugars around 126 and that could bring you down into the 6.5 area ! Just watch those carbs they can become tricky.

Trying to maintain my A1C count to around 7. Brought it down to 9.7. Delaying some teeth cleaning procedure until in the acceptable range. Told it will take atleast 2 more months of successful management of diabetes. Wonder at times will the count ever get to the accepted level.

Track my sparkpeople food intake with the diabetic piece. To control by glucose numbers and to complete the periodontics surgery that is currently pending. To maintain and build my exercise regimen to stay healthy with the diabetes.
Hopefully improve my quality of life with diabetes with these above mentioned elements and improve my education regarding the Big D.

On this 8-week challenge I've shed 11 lbs so far, moving steadily toward my goal of reducing by 31 lbs. My long-term goal (after achieving the above) is to maintain a healthy body size by continuing to track my food and exercising for fitness, strength and energy. I will get my a1c results in about a week and hope to hear that it is somewhere around 6%. I would love to be able to eliminate or reduce some of my medications and avoid ever having to be on insulin.

DITO for me. I've been doing spark for about two months longest i've ever stuck with any exercise program. I've finally lost 15 pounds. I'm starting to feel better my sugars are going down. Had my AC1 tested today cant wait to see if its going down. Hope to continue everything i've learned for rest of my life. Still hoping exercise becomes fun instead of something I have to do.

At first I thought...8 weeks....that's too long and I'll never make it...but I have and it surprises me more than anyone! LOL

Using the nutritional tracker works wonders.
Track water and as 8 is easy for me so I try for 10.
Continue to do the workouts which is very difficult for me
Keep the FBS under 110 everyday and maintain a better watch on carbs, which really trigger my sugar levels.

This has been fun and I am glad I took the challenge!!!!

My long-term goal is to continue to exercise, and eat sensibly.
I would like to lose weight, down to 140 pounds, at Christmas,2012 !
My Doctor would be so happy ! Of course, he would want me to keep
that weight off ! So, this is my over-all Goal : to reach 140 pounds, and
maintain that weight !
I've enjoyed being on this Team !
I know that there are some exciting Prize Draws, coming up !
Good Luck, everyone !
I am not eligible to participate, since I don't live in the States.
( maybe, I'll get an extra Spark-goodie !)

I surpassed my goal - for the 8 week challenge - I reached one of my short term goals (to get under 220) and lost just over 20lbs (When I started this challenge I was at 241.0 now I am at 219.8)
My long-term goals:
1. to continue to track food and fitness on SP
2. to continue to use the meal planner on SP
3. to reach my goal weight of 144 by July 2012 (but to do this as to not get discouraged I am setting short-term goals - now that I am under 220 (which is where I plateaued a few years ago) I will now shoot for 215 - then 210 - then 199 - and so on.
4. to continue to workout everyday and increase the intensity of my workouts
