FBS today= 84. I did 100 minutes of exercise today. Combination of using the indoor exercycle and my kettlebell.

I'm back on track with exercising. I do about 50 minutes total. I'm mixing different exercises to keep it from getting boring for me. I do track my food about 2 days a week need to really work on that. That's been a struggle for me.

SANDRA - You might want to set your clock or something to remind you to eat your snack every day. Eating your snacks will help you to lose weight also providing you don't go over your allowed number of calories in the day. They really are important. So many times people will eat less thinking that they will lose weight but that isn't so. If you want to lose and to keep it off, you have to eat your 3 meals a day plus 1-3 snacks a day - exercising will also help a lot. So, set the kitchen timer, alarm clock, or whatever you have. emoticon

Half the time I forget to eat my snacks I am not hungry and don't think about it. My Dr wants me to eat snacks even if I am not hungry. Now I have post-ems all over the house to remind me.

SANDRA2BHEALTHY - Walking is my main exercise and it really makes a difference all the way around. Are you weighing yourself at least once a week? What about measuring yourself once a month. Be sure you are eating your 3 meals a day as well as your 1-3 snacks a day.

WTLSSRTR - I wouldn't worry about your FBS of 104. That's still in the normal range. As for your 87 BS, mine will drop much lower than that when I don't have enough carbs with my breakfast. Just be sure that you have your 3 meals plus 1-3 snacks a day in order to help keep your BSs from crashing or spiking a well as to keep you from over eating at the next meal. The snacks also helps to keep your metabolism working at a nice level.

If you continue to be worried about it, then I'd contact your dr or his nurse and ask him/her about it.

Week 7, Day 1

FBS: 96 emoticon

Everything's going really well. Walked a mile this morning and did some strength training. Blood sugar numbers are staying between 84-98 for fasting and 96-120 after meals. I've had a handful of mornings where my FBS was a couple of points over 100 but I'm just not gonna sweat it and neither is my doctor. My A1C is 5.7% so I'm 100% off all oral meds and insulin now, so I am haaaaaaaaapppppeeeeee!! I've lost 73 pounds since I started my weight loss journey which is 3 pounds over my doctor's goal weight for me and I am feeling like a completely new person.

Thanks Kathy! FBS this morning was 126 but I'm happy with it, for now. :) My usual is in the 130-150 range. It also takes me almost 2 days to get my bs back to normal after a bad day. I increased my Victoza last Friday and have no appetite again. I make myself eat some but find I push it away after a few bites. I just want to know when my energy level will increase as I'm tired of being tired. emoticon

Congratulations!!! I knew you would get there.

I just found out how delicate my low blood sugar is. My daughter had a birthday and I went to the BBQ for her. I ate thing I should not have. The next morning my FBS was 147 (up from around 100) and it took two days to go down. I guess I have to watch it all the time.

FBS this morning was 125, starting to come down. Increased my Victoza to 1.2 Friday night so it is helping a little. I lost another pound down to 211.8 from 232 starting. I need to be more consistent with making myself get up and exercise. I do it sporadically and not really enough to help with weight loss or toning/strength. I just feel tired all the time, like I have no energy at all. When I do exercise is when I feel I'm bursting with energy and this is really rare. I will keep pushing though. Every little bit helps. I'm in week 7 and will probably start the challenge over again at the end of week 8 and really make myself follow the exercise challenges to the T. Today may be a bit hard for me because I love grilled food but the added sauces on the ribs don't help, neither does mom's homemade potato salad emoticon . I will just have to watch the portion size as I try to do faithfully.

I got weighed yesterday. I lost another 3.5 pounds. I have now lost 10% of my original weight. It has made a huge difference in my diabetes. My FBS is between 90 and 105.

Week 7 Day 5: So far today, I have walked over 3 miles. emoticon

I walked and jogged my way to victory. emoticon

I still have the pedometer on to keep tracking my steps. My goal is 6,000 steps per day. I think today will be the first time I have actually met that goal. emoticon

I have completed a 8 minute toning/strength video. I plan on doing more later today. emoticon emoticon

I have been tracking all my exercise and food in the Sparkpeople trackers. emoticon emoticon

I hope to have that trophy soon!

Week 7 Day 4: I walked 20 minutes this morning around a new track. I walked the track 2 times, so I got just under 1 mile. Tomorrow I plan on walking the track 3 times so I can log 1 mile for walking. Being able to walk this morning was an increase in my cardio since I changed where I walked and increased the speed as well. I am still tracking my food and I eat more than 5 fruits and veggies daily emoticon

Week 7 Day 1: This week should not be hard for me since I always track my food and always eat more than 5 fruits and veggies daily. I have to stay with a low impact workout plan due to health reasons, but I hope I do not have a problem increasing my cardio...stress test Monday emoticon

Week 7 - Day 5 - FBS 102. I've been under the weather for 3 days but I think I am on the mend today.

I put a new battery in my step counter. Then I put the timer on for 5 minutes every hour or so and walk up and down my hallway.

It's raining again today so this is how I am getting a little bit of walking in. I would like to get 10,000 steps per day but haven't made it that far yet... but I will. emoticon

Today I learned a very valuable lesson that exercise really does help us lose weight but more importantly for this group, sufficiently lower blood sugar numbers. I went for a 20-30 minute hike up a steep hill in our neighborhood. I didn't make it all the way to the top of the hill and then around the upper cul-de-sac. I got dizzy and seriously out of breathe, so I had to quit about 3/4 of the way up the hill. This hill will not defeat me, I will conquer it, I will peruse until I can and do.

Anyway, I digresed a little. What I wanted to say was that after the amount of exercise I did yesterday, this morning my blood sugar was 139 where it had been mostly almost 200, that's quite a difference and has convinced me to exercise more. Today I visited the local YMCA and have a free guest pass for a week which I intend to use. Today I did 3, 5 minute workouts on the cycle for a total of 15 minutes and 1/2 a mile. I got my heart rate up to 125 and tonight my legs feel like jelly. When we got home I still had to make juice, clean the kitchen and prepare dinner for myself and my disabled daughter, I'm pooped and going to bed.

I really appreciate the fact that I was set up with a Diabetic Nutrition Tracker, I have used it daily since I started SP. Soon after I found this group and the 8 week challenge. Can't believe that I have already participated for 7 of the 8 week program.
Even though I haven't lost weight yet it's still been very helpful and worthwhile. Right now I'm stuck at a plateau. Which like the hill, I will make it past those barriers!

To the new people in the group, welcome, you've come to the right place to learn to better control and manage your diabetes through good nutrition and regular fitness!

checking in - St. Patty's day meal was great...tough week ahead as I get ready for a huge fundraiser dinner...no time for exercise, totally stressed, kids out for spring break, and I have to work all week too... to help I had a cleaning crew come to the house and do a deep spring clean for me and I'm learning how to delegate to the volunteers for the dinner... the goal this week is to just remember to take my diabetes meds...

Congratulations everyone. I took yesterday off from exercise. I had injured my knee last summer and I used the ski machine for the first time on Thurs. My knee was not happy yesterday and I thought it would benefit from rest rather than more exercise. I think it worked because there is not pain today, so I will be back at the gym tonight but I think I'll leave the ski machine alone.

Doing well. Have used the food and fitness trackers every day. Since week 3, have done at least 30 minutes of exercise 5 days a week. For over 2 weeks have done the treadmill 60 minutes a day 5 days a week.

Week 7 - Day 2
Did well yesterday, Got my cardio and ST accomplished. Today I have a bunch of errand, appointments so I have to put my cardio off until later this afternoon, but it will get done. Haven' missed a day yet. Have to keep that streak going!

Carol-I am an LPN and was working on my prerequisites for RN but I may switch my major to Drug and Alcohol Rehabilitation Counselor.

W7D3 FBS this morning was 167. Normally around 100 - 110. Not sure what happened. Last night after supper it was 120. I was hungry and had 100 cal left so had 1/2 cup 1% milk & 6 grapes. Anyone have any idea why this happens? I was concerned this am so had only a small breakfast to take pills. 2 hrs after breakfast it was 131.

Hi Jilly! Nice to "see" you here. My Diabetic Educator had told me to test 2x a day - FBS and once after a meal rotating thru. I didn't think this gave me enough info, so like you did the 4 times. When I had been on the meds for 2 mos and was stable dropped back to 2x. Now, since I gave off the one med, back up to the 4x. This week for the first time, I timed my workout to start right after my 2hr dinner test and then tested again after exercising. Dropped 18 points from 121 to 103 during the workout.

Heading towards the end!

Plan for the day-study for my exam, with planned exercise, relaxing breaks to clear my head. This algebra clogs it up good, lol.

Hi Carol! How often do you test? I test after meals (2hrs) and in the am for FBS. Or if I feel "funny". Usually don't always get to test after every meal do to scheduling conflicts. If I am trending high or low I tend to test more.

Congrats on the wt. loss Krys

Feeling good today, lost 4 lbs in 6 weeks very happy about that. Feels like I've had more energy today and allergies are acting up less. Blood sugar this morning was 123 much better. I wonder though if so called sugar free hot chocolate is raising my sugar a little.
Even though they say alcohol sugar does not, it's still sugar.

Week 7, Day 1: new workout with the ball, which I don't have ready yet, so did the 20-min dumbbell again. I've marked that one as one to go to even when I've completed the 8-week challenge.
Week 7, Day 2: I have my ball, pumped up and ready. did cardio and resistance band workout today.
Week 7, Day 3: cardio and ball workout
Week 7, Day 4: cardio and ball workout--I used lots of modifications today
Week 7, Day 5: cardio and resistance band workout--moved to a "tighter" band, made things harder but good for me
Will do cardio for weekend

today my fasting was 143, I seem to be holding steady in the 140 range, I am ok with that for now. I have been having 180-250 for a very very long time, and we couldn't get a handle on it, I tried everything.............well except lower carb eating. emoticon

Day 5 week 7 133 today fasting. High protein breakfast, and out to shovel, when I came in after 35-40 minutes I was down to 77! I haven't been that low in forever! I actually was dizzy and seeing spots, I had a yogurt and settled easily. Later in the day, after a good lunch, we went and shoveled again, I did much better, I came in after an hour to a 89 and feeling fine. Yaaaaaay!!! emoticon emoticon

I did drop 8/10 of a pound, going is slow.
I am deciding whether to leave this site or not do to it being so slow.
I could be doing many other things in the time it takes me to get anything on this site to pull up.
I know they need the ads to keep the site free, however there far to many and the emoticon site is very slow because of it.

Day 1 - Week 7
Today we went to a winter outside party at the campground that we go to here in New York State. What a great time, and I felt pretty good, We went tubing, so I got a lot of exercise, and the campground children thought it hilarious that the grammas and grampas were all tubing and sledding! We had a good workout! I had a cup of soup there and some fruit, so I did fine in the eating department. And I stuck with plain water around the bonfire. Fastings this morning were in the same range, 150, so its not going up, and I think once this illness totally leaves my body I will settle down even more. emoticon

LEANNA - - Great FBS!! All that hard work you've been doing is paying off!!!! One step at a time - - you do what you can do and then take a break. I have two new knees myself, and I know the pain of arthritic knees very well; however, my new knees are wonderful!!! Your exercise bike should be fairly easy on you knees providing the seat is up high enough to help take the pressure off of your knees. Wonderful that your DH is even going to give Yoga a try. Keep up the good work!! emoticon emoticon

FBS 101 - hitting 5000 steps a day most of the week (when my arthritic knees can handle it) Getting time in on my exercise bike. Finally bought DDP Yoga after watching the Arthur video for the upteenth time. It can't hurt and even hubby is trying it.

WEEK 7 DAY 7 - FBS 93 today. A1C 5.9 (yeah!!!!) Starting walking with DH and our 2 toy poodles today for the first time since I got the virus in December - - awful thing this year!. Huff and puffed by the time we were 1/3 of the way around our park which is approx. 1 mile. By the time we got 1/2 way around my chest was tight but I made it all the way. We did that twice today - 2nd time I huffed and puffed but chest didn't get quite as tight. I sure am out of condition now!! Didn't exercise anymore today other than the walking - - had to take a break. Went under my goals on fats - - having lots of trouble there. I don't usually but for some reason or another I really am now.

GRLTAZ - - Great FBS!!! Sometimes when we are in a bad or irritable mood exercising will actually bring us out of it!! When we see someone who has lost a leg or in the case of the one you were telling us about - soon to be 2 feet amputated, it really brings us back to reality!! It would definitely make me think twice about letting my BSs get out of control!! I want to keep both of my feet also!!

JOYFULTYPER - - How have your sugars been? When you were dizzy, did you take your BS? Dizziness is one of the signs/symptoms of either hyper or hypoglycemia. Be sure to check it when that happens. Are you eating your 2-3 snacks a day? Snacking on a schedule will help to keep your BSs on an even keel. Glad to hear you're staying on track with your food.

week 7 day 6. FBS 91 today. whoo hoo, more like my normal. I want to slack big time. Mood has been terse/ irritable easily. My angels step in just at the right time if I keep my eyes and heart open. I am reminded daily at work what a terrible disease diabetes is. Met a 42 year old man yesterday with one leg amputated to knee and is going to surgery today for other foot to be amputated due to poor healing. That is way too young for that crap. So, that being said, I WILL exercise today. I may be in a bad mood but I will do it because I LIKE my legs and feet and I want to keep them. Who knows, maybe my mood will be better after I exercise. Talk at you all tomorrow. Keep up the good work ! TC

WEEK 7 DAY 4 - - FBS 93. Saw internist today and he's ordering a CT scan of my abdominal and pelvic area to to the pains I've been having for the past couple of months. I've had lots of abdominal surgeries in the last few years (2 in February and April 2012) and believes it's massive scar tissue causing the pain. Tomorrow I see the neurologist again for the constant headaches I've been having since the end of August. Hopefully something will come of this visit this time. Been getting some walking in at the stores due to the cold, wet, and windy weather here;; however tomorrow is to be in the mid 70's and Friday 81 - - so hopefully I'll be able to start walking outside again. I'm under on my nutrition today so will have to watch that more closely - - fiber is also down today.

Week 7 day 4. FBS 94 today. Still very up and down. Potatoes red or yams make it higher in am even at reasonable amt of 14-12 cup. Bread does not seem to increase it. Pasta makes it go up. Working out minimum 4 days 30 minutes and doing ok with that. Have about 1 more pound to make it to first 50 lbs gone so wt loss going according to plan so far. Still bummed out with winter so counting days til spring (72 folks). LOL. Keep plugging away. TC

week 7 day 4 Haven't been able to get to computer to track my food. had to get up at 4 am to get to the computer this morning. think I'm doing ok still though.

WEEK 7 DAY 1 - - - First of all I just want to say that you guys are doing GREAT!!! Keep up the good work!!

Today I had a FBS of 101 which is good for me as I've become hypoglycemic and have to watch my BSs because many times I have no warnings with my BSs crash to the danger point.

Been eating my 3 meals and 3 snacks a day and recording everything daily. I've pretty much taken a "REST DAY" today for the most part. I kind of "over did" on my exercise/housework yesterday so giving myself a break and a chance to recuperate today. I did go UNDER my fat and calories today, however. I must watch that. I've been needing to cut down on my fat but not by that much!!

Have spent quite a bit of time just surfing the sites and blogs today and checking to see how everyone's been doing over the past week. It has a tendency to help keep me motivated when I do that.

Week 7 day 1 FBS 114. Did exercise yesterday but not today yet. Eating as healthy as I know how. avoiding as many processed foods as I can and have not eaten out for 2 weeks. Weight down to 276.7 from 325 in Oct so progress is as planned so far. God forbid, I hit a bump. Tc

been sick with an awful cold so starting week 7 late. I am still losing though and the best part is my blood sugars are back to normal. yeah.

Just got my new meter in the mail..Free Style..got it from an ad on this site..It is great..does not hurt as much, in fact barely felt it. No coding, ahhh..life made simplier!!
