Week 6 Day 1: Hi all. Checking in for the start of the challenge in week 6. I have a new workout video that I have been waiting to try out, so I will be using it this week. I hope to add the additional 5 minutes to my workout. I will continue to track food and drink the 8 cups of water daily. emoticon

CHRISTINE and ALI - Looks like you guys have been doing great!!! Lots of exercise and tracking. emoticon Keep up the good work! Sorry I haven't been on here the last couple of days - - computer crashed, needed updates etc etc. All taken care of now - - I hope!!! I'll be checking back in tomorrow. I now need to input all of my food for today which is really different as I'm use to tracking my food as soon as I eat it. See you both tomorrow.

Me I am W6 D7- FBS 119 and yes I do know why - for me this is high. I WILL do better! No weight loss either but I lost 1/2 inch on my waist and for me that is HUGE!! Only 31/2 inches left to go! All my best to everyone in this challenge!

Hi, this is Ali again. I think I am doing fairly well. I haven't lost any weight yet, hanging out in the 234 pound range. I have however, tracked my food on the Diabetic Nutrition Tracker. I also have used the Fitness Tracker most days. I increased my exercise today, from almost 20 minutes to a little over 30 minutes, and then I did deep tissue massage and range of motion exercises for my younger disabled daughter for between 10-15 minutes.
That is the most exercise that I have done or at least have tracked since I joined SparkPeople the end of January!

W6 - D6 FBS 102. I keep eating later at night than I should so my FBS is always up. Ate a half of an orange last night. It was good though LOL

Today I am starting a low fat, low carb, vegetarian diet. *No sugar, no simple carbs and only carbs from veggies, beans and complex gains. I have other health concerns so I am waiting to hear back from my Doctor this morning to see if he thinks this may help.

It's a mini trampoline. I just ran for 30 minutes to ZZTop. Talk about make me sweat! It uses up 535 calories too which I need! Because of my back and weight my Doctor didn't want me to run on anything else. It's fun too!

How are you feeling Judy? I hope you are not over doing it.

emoticon job on getting so far on your quest to get licenses for Registered Home Care Aide. Just remember to take a deep breath and try to relax before hand. Concentrate on your breathing. You already know the material evidently, so remember that this really isn't anything new - - it's just a piece of paper. You've already been doing all the skills associated with it. I can't believe that this is week 6 already. I am doing well, better. I'm trying to still figure out aspects of the Nutrition Tracker and the Fitness Tracker, but it is getting a little easier to use now! Other than that my life has been very busy, and I'm happiest when I'm busy.
I am taking the State Boards on Tuesday for becoming a Registered Home Care Aide to help care for my disabled, younger daughter. There is a lot of pressure for me to pass this test because I will lose my job if I don't pass, and that has to happen by March 31st!
I suffer from test anxiety anyway and also have equal amounts of ADD and ADHD, so I am worried about remembering all the steps associated with the skills test. I'm not too worried about the written test as much as I am about the skills test. Please wish me luck and I'll check in again next week.

Last week I gained a pound so this puts me back on track.

Went for a walk outside yesterday, it was nice to be able to get out. Today is kind of icky, looks like rain (better than snow). I am doing a cardio DVD today and the Prevention Lower Body Workout.

Last day for week 6. Did 7 days of cardio. Only 15 min today but 25 min other days. Got 3 toning sessions in. Recorded daily and drank water. 6 days with good FBS and one day okay after panic eating in evening.

Week 6 day 4- forgot to take my FBS

Carol-great on your exercise streak! You will have to keep testing to see how exercise effects your bs. It does nothing to much to mine. I take it before, take it after cardio for 30-40 min and usually it is higher if not the same. Everyone is different.

It is horrible to wake up with low bs when sleeping. It is very scary when I have had it happen in the past. I have had to adjust my Levimir at bedtime as I have become healthier so the amount I was taking was making my morning number too low. (After speaking with my doctor).

I am planning on some laid back cardio today and I am going to try some lower body exercises I saw in Prevention. 10 minutes once or twice a day. And no kneeling, which I need do to my knee injury.

CAROL - I have a tendency to go hypo easily with no warning many times. I never go to bed with my BS less than 110 - - I do know that I feel my best when my BS is 120. I ALWAYS have a snack before I go to bed - nothing big. I might have a slice of bread with 2 TBS of PB2 (if you've never heard of this or tried it, it's peanut butter in powder form with about 65% less fat - you just add 1 TB of water to 2TB of powdered PB2). It tastes pretty good and smells just like Jiff peanut butter. Sometimes I might have a small bowl of cereal before I go to bed; sometimes it might be 1/2 of a sandwich or graham crackers and skim milk.

As of yesterday, I exercised daily for 7 days.

I was worried about by BS last night. After supper, before exercising it was 99. A number I have only had a couple of times as FBS and never at any other time of day, so I was worried that it would tank either while exercising or sometime during the night. I panic mode, literally, ate a cookie, fruit and half glass of milk. This morning my FBS was 126, higher than normal. So did I over react last night? Anyone know what may be too low before exercising or going to bed

Week 6 - Day 3 FBS 109 again

Did good with the water yesterday and should be fine today. Did a three mile walk video/low impact aerobics yesterday also. For today I will complete a Gilad low impact aerobic DVD and some Spark ST workout videos.

This challenge is keeping me consistent. I feel like I have to get some exercise in everyday and it make me feel Great!

Week 6 day 2- FBS 109 - not too bad

Off in a couple for some cardio. Trying to get the fluids in.

Did my ST yesterday but cardio got set off to the side because my son fractured his hand. Went to pediatrican, Radiology and then the orthopedic surgeon. Did get all my steps accounted for though! His surgery and casting was done this morning so now its time to get the cardio done before something else comes up, lol.

Week 6, Day 1: blood sugar high this morning but MUCH better by mid-afternoon, and ate only salad this evening, so should be good tomorrow.
Exercise: 30 min cardio and 20 min strength video.

Week 6, Day 2: blood sugar much better this a.m., did cardio and 20 min resistance band video. doing o.k.

Did not do well yesterday.
I went to Palm Springs on a bus tour for the Follies.
Left at 7:30 am returned at 11:30 pm, ate breakfast, lunch and dinner out.
Lunch was a cup of chicken soup and dinner was a ceaser salad with shrimp.
But I will not mention Breakfast!

fastings this morning were lower! YaaaaaaY 148. Yes, yes I know, that is not low for many of you, but it is for me! November, before I started this, I was running 280-300 daily. I'm thrilled.

Still very tired and on the "bug" medication, But feeling so much better. Tomorrow I will increase my exercise a little more. I didn't realize how weak I was! emoticon

Time for me to get back on track also. Getting my exercise done regularly mainly because I do love what I am doing. However I have not been very careful on calorie intake. So time to quit fooling around and get as serious about that as I am with my exercising.
I have not gained weight but I have not lost any either. emoticon

Fastings this morning were about the same, 153, that's ok......I've only been on the medications for a couple of days, I'm hoping it will just continue to get better. I'm feeling more myself today, and no nap (although I am exhausted!) But enough babying .......... now it's time for me to get myself back on track! emoticon

thanks so much, I feel like I have had this illness forever. I do feel a lot better. Fastings this morning were 154, I have felt pretty good most of the day, although I needed to nap when I got home for a little bit. I went on the stationary bike this morning for about 10 minutes, and am on my way back there now. I am going to attempt another 15. I'm still afraid to overdo too much. I don't want another relapse. Thank you for your constant and continued support, I really appreciate it. emoticon

Day 2, week 6 Fastings this morning were 123 Yay finally, down near "normal" numbers. I was able to got back to work today, for the entire day, so Yay, And I am still up at 8 PM. Maybe, finally, I can get a handle on all of this. Tomorrow morning I am going to attempt the exercise bike for a little bit.

JOYAOLSON - Are you measuring everything that goes into your mouth? Are you using the Nutrition Tracker? The Tracker will keep you accountable besides letting your know if you need to increase or decrease your calories, carbs, fat, and protein. What about exercises - - cardio, strength training, walking? How are your clothes fitting? Are they getting looser? Do you have more energy than you did before? How are your FBSs?

Don't be afraid to start over at Week 1 if you need to. There's a lot to learn here. I've been on SparkPeople for almost 2 years and I just went back and took this same Challenge for the second time and I learned even more than I did the first time. I'm no "spring chicken" and I just felt the need to go back and take it over and I learned even more.

Day 1, Week 6 Went to the Dr today. This cold/flu thing, has turned into an upper resp. issue. I am still miserable, I am going into week 3! But now I have some stronger medications, hopefully this will help. My numbers were reasonable, under the circumstances again today, my morning number was 165. weight is only down 1/2 a pound in two weeks, but I really have been eating what I want when I want, and minimal exercise. Right now, I just have to get a handle on this ........but I'm still checking in! emoticon

WEEK 6 DAY 7 - - Didn't get real specific with my exercising today but definitely hit all levels of it. Did heavy cleaning today for 2 hours (vacuuming, scrubbing the carpets, re-vacuuming the carpet and moving things back to where they belong). My DH helped with some of the scrubbing and kept insisting that I take a break since I had been sick most of December. He had to do the heavy moving of furniture etc for me. I also did a few light exercising today as well. I'm feeling it tonight and am sure I will be feeling it more by morning. Will be doing some stretching tonight before bedtime however.

I did get all my freggies in as well as my fluids. Don't think I'll be making my calorie range as I used up so many calories with all the work today.

Seems like everyone is doing really well. I love seeing that. FBS 94 today. Somewhat better considering I still haven't seen a dietician. Hopefully before January is over. The carb thing is getting to me. When I went to school in 1981, all that was taught was avoid sugars at all costs and "watch" carbs. Now the TV/ news is touting fast & slow carbs with different size portions of each. Always eat protein with carb and all I hear is yak yak yak. Information overload. I just need to talk to the dietician 1:1 and get it straight in my head. exercise is going well, but I still prefer walking outside so this weather really puts a damper on that. How many days til spring ? LOL. Keep pushing people. TC

WEEK 6 DAY 6 - - Stayed within my range on nutrition again today. Have had 6 fruits/veggies today. Have kept my carbs in the middle range and my proteins higher than my fats which is something I usually have trouble doing. Have done exercises and more laundry. Tomorrow is carpet scrubbing (with a carpet scrubber, not on my hands and knees).

WEEK 6 DAY 5. Went shopping for a little bit with my DH and while there he surprised me with a dozen roses - - - rare occasion for him to do that! It was so special and sweet of him to get me those. Been fighting my constant headache again today - - seems to be worse than usual. Still cold and very windy outside today - also unusual for the RGV in S. TX. Still working at getting my strength back but it's coming. Did my close arm counter pushups, calf raises on steps, standing abductions and adductions also today. So slowly but surely, I'm getting more active since being sick almost all of December.

Last day of 2013 - time to reflect. I have been doing this now for a few days and have my plan of action ready for 2014
And I a pleased with the results of 2013

I had rejoined sparks in November 2011 weighing in at 295. But rather than loss I gained. It was not until October of 2013 when I was told I was a confirmed diabetic that I got my ah ha moment. Doctor told me that he would give me 12 months to lose 60 pounds and if I don't he will be putting me on meds - said I can reverse all of this with changing my lifestyle.

So that is what I have been doing.
I looked at what I needed to lose = the total goal for weight loss is mind bogging = so I am focused on a total of 60 pounds in 2014.
To do this I am working on 1 pound a week / 5 pounds per month = this is very doable. Each day I start by deciding what I can do 'today' to lost 1 pound that week. Small changes over time all add up.
The next thing I did was I started to walk and to record the distance = it is nice to see those numbers add up.
And the next thing I would like to mention is that I joined this team with the understanding that I would post daily for the 8 weeks.

So all is well in my house - I have made progress this year = and I know in 2014 I will continue to go forward.

My daily stats for today are
October 31 2013 weighed in at 310
November 30 2013 weighed in at 300
December 31 2013 weighed in at 295

This is a lost of 15 pounds for the year = all of which was accomplished in 8 weeks

WEEK 6 DAY 2 - It's cold, wet, and windy here again today. We are getting awful tired of this stuff!!!! We don't normally get our winter until January and then only for 2 weeks!!! We started the end of November this year and hasn't stopped except for about 3 days in the upper 70's low 80's this time. We just aren't use to this here.

I have spent most of December sick with the virus and now trying to get my strength and immune system built up again. My 4-month constant headaches continue 24/7. Stopped pain med at bedtime last night as I started having abdominal pains but they've continued throughout today. They woke me up during the night last night. If not better by tomorrow morning I'll be going to the doctor or to ER tonight if they get worse than they are now.

Continue to track my food and fluids. Doing great in both areas. Tracking what little fitness I've been able to get in. I'm not allowed to walk outdoors yet until I get my strength back up to par as well as my immune system (dr's orders) especially with it raining, cold, and windy. Dr's afraid I might faint/fall and reinjure my shoulder, new knees, and new ankles/feet. Lord knows I don't want that to happen. I did do the chair stretch video tonight. I am doing my counter pushups twice a day however to help build up my strength.

Am feeling the cold today - so am going to stay inside
Looking forward to the new year - am needing to get in 1 and 1/2 miles today and again tomorrow = then on January 1 my plan is to increase it to 2 miles daily
Watched a show last night called, 'Fat, Sick and nearly dead' = very interesting = about a fellow who juiced for 60 days under the care of his doctor. Makes a lot of sense as we just don't get in all the right micronutrients that we need. Have a juicer so am going to start on January 1 with having a glass of green veggy juice a day and go from there

Otherwise all is well here - hope you are all doing well

Starting of a new week which will roll over into the new year.
Am pleased with my progress so far - and am looking forward to another great week - and if at all possible I might end this challenge with a nice loss - heading in that direction

Took a few days from getting in my walk - got some in but not the daily goal - but am back on track again and today, tomorrow and Tuesday will be doing 1 and 1/2 miles each day and starting in January will push it up to 2 miles a day.

Also am looking at getting in some strength training - have some 2 pound dumbbells that I am looking forward to start using - planning that for the new year also

All extra goodies (nuts ect) have been removed from the house as I tend to nibble on them and after a few days my system reacts to them - IBS does not like them at all though my mouth does.
