wk 4 day 6 - I feel like I am doing quite well. I have been staying much closer to my goal for food. I have planned my food for tomorrow and feel like I am ahead of the game. :) My muscles are sore from exercise but it is a good kind of sore. I used the elliptical yesterday and today for 23 minutes each day. I found ezekiel 4:9 wraps at the healthfood store and used it in place of a roll for a sausage sandwich for dinner. I am thinking the wraps will be great for pizza crusts and to wrap chicken, rice and veggies. I also found the cinnamon & raison ezekiel bread to use for breakfast. I am excited to find new ways to eat healthy now. My sugar levels are improving. I haven't made it under 100 yet but I have a feeling that I am getting close. I was 105 before dinner today. I went another 3 hours before eating and it went up to 112. I am assuming I started burning fat for it to go up but not positive. Anyway, I am looking forward to week 5 and the new challenges I have ahead of me.

wk 4 day 3 - I did much better today. I had a greek non fat yogurt and a boiled egg for breakfast. For lunch I had a grilled chicken salad. I tested myself before dinner and was 108. I had about 3 oz of roasted beef along with 10 bing cherries and some seasoned summer squash lightly cooked. After dinner I went for a 20 minute walk of which I was brave enough to actually jog for a short distance. I know it will get better the more exercise I do. I am a little sore from my strength training yesterday but I know that if I do it again tomorrow it will help. I may use the weight gym and the elliptical tomorrow. :)

wk 4 day 2: Went over on my foods today. It was a different kind of a day and eating was not in my control so I did the best that I could but knew I needed to eat too. Getting to where I don't care for chinese food. I know it was full of sodium too because I feel puffy. I took all my meds and drank extra water to help with the sodium. I did exercise tonight. I walked for 20 minutes and did strength training exercises for 21 minutes.

Wk 4 Day 1 - can't believe I have made it this far! I am tracking all of my foods and I did 45 minutes of exercise between cleaning and walking. I have cut out soda all together since I found out 4 wks ago that I have diabetes and have to take medication for it. I have been trying to mix up my work outs. I have been walking, using the elliptical, cleaning, toning exercises, painting, and doing the hip flexors. My clothes are getting baggy which I love! Looking forward to this week of challenges!

Week 4 Day 7

Here it is the last day of week 4 already. I went to the grocery before dinner and of course I got hungry and had to walk through the bakery area. I looked at some sugar free cookies and was shocked to see 1 cookie was 310 calories! That's what I eat for a whole meal now (I eat 3 meals and 2 snacks a day). One cookie certainly would not fill me up. I put them down and went and checked out. I had salad with cut up chicken in it for dinner. emoticon

I met all the goals for week 4 so it's on to week 5 now. I'm halfway through.

Week 4, Day 6

Went to the doctor to get the results of my MRI on my knee today. I have a torn meniscus, osteoarthritis, inflammation with swelling, and the cartilage under my kneecap is softening and breaking down. Oh, and a few bone spurs too. He referred me to a surgeon. Hopefully most of this can be fixed with arthroscopic surgery and I won't have too much down time. I guess I can do more of the chair exercises and stick with the diet. The doctor was impressed that I was able to even get on the elliptical.

Week 4 Day 4.
Had another crazy day. Drove 2 hours this AM to visit my parents. Then thought I'd do some project at home but got called to a clinic that was swamped with kids sport physical. Now at 8PM I am eating supper in front of the computer. So I am going for a walk to just get a few minutes of cardio in. I hope tomorrow is more quiet.

Stuck to my meal plan. This AM my fasting sugar is 114 I don't like that. Have to figure out what I am doing wrong.

Well I'll sleep on it. :)

Week 4 Day 5

OK, done eating for the day. I still need to drink 3 more glasses of water. I actually stayed withing range for Calories, Fat, Carbs, and Protein. emoticon I'm usually high in protein and low in carbs. Went about 500 mg over on sodium. That's because I had canned soup for dinner.

I can't exercise today because I donated blood but I'm off tomorrow so I'll do a double. emoticon emoticon

I took advantage of the 2 week free trial and joined SparkCoach today. It gave me a bunch of sparkpoints. I need to go in once a day and complete the tasks. Did anyone else join it?

Warmheart, I assume you're swamped at work. emoticon to your co-worker. Take care of yourself and keep up the good habits even if you don't have time to post. emoticon

Forgot to post that my FBS was 100 this morning. I guess cereal at 9:30pm is not so good.

Week 4 Day 4

I ate a small bowl of cereal with milk at 9:30pm tonight. I wanted to get my calories within my goals. I'll see how that affects my blood sugar in the morning. I only did 20 minutes on the elliptical but I also did the 20 minute band workout and a few arm exercises with 8 pound weights. I wanted to get it all in because tomorrow I'm donating blood so I have to skip exercise.

Warmheart, let me know if you come across any interesting challenges to start after this one is done. I'm glad my messages help. Yours are encouraging me to continue too.

Week 4 Day 3
Good Morning - well today threw me a curve . A co-worker had her baby a couple days early so I spent my exercise time calling people to come in. Hope I can find time later to take a walk at least for 10 minutes.

I'm really happy because I am feeling better and clothes not so tight.
I too am thinking I might do this challenge again or at least another one. I did join some groups, met some lovely people but everyone just kept spinning their wheels after a while.
Mummmz your motivation has helped me a lot.

Week 4 Day 3

I'm doing well on my diet. I'm surprised I don't crave all the sweet stuff I used to eat. I'm not going near any buffets anytime soon though. No use tempting myself.

Every evening I go ahead and put on workout clothes even though I keep thinking I can skip exercise for the day. After a while I usually decide I might as well do at least 20 minutes. Most days that turns into 30 minutes. I'm not thinking beyond the 8 week challenge at this point. Maybe I'll repeat it or find another because I think the challenge keeps me tuned in to losing weight.

Week 4 day 2.
Well had a hard time convincing my self to exercise but did it and felt much better.
Yes making meals ahead would work much better for me also. Need to shop and get some things.
In 3 weeks I am going to Las Vegas with my husband for a conference. I am looking forward to it but dreading the food battle. My husband loves those big buffets as I do but I just can't eat like I used too. Well I will have to work it out. One day at a time right?

Week 4 Day 2

Hi Warmheart. Welcome to week 4. That's about the same things I eat. Salad with chicken or tuna. I haven't tried greek yogurt, I get the regular Walmart non-fat 4-packs. I find I'm having to cook more as the prepared foods all have way too much salt.

I'm having a hard time getting home around 5:30-6pm and fitting in cooking, eating, exercise, and preparing lunch for the next day. I spend a little time on the computer then it's time for bed. Tonight I made up salads for the week so that should help.

Week4 Day1. Still on track. Last week got busy and wasn't around a computer much so should be able to check in more often this week. Am feeling better each week.

MUMMMZ good to see you have moved on -- you asked about what I eat for lunch. I get bored easy so I have to mix it up. I might make salad with vegatables with chicken or tuna, maybe greek yogourt with fruit and a few nuts, cook the night before chicken with tomato sauce and vegies, take deli meat and wrap it around string cheese then eat vegie's, soups. Anything I can put in a container.

We exercised so need to shower and head to work. Have a great day everyone.

Hello week 4!

Since I'm off work for the weekend I decided to get in more exercise. I did a 20 minute TaeBo workout and 2-20 minutes sessions on the elliptical. Eating right-actually trying to make sure I eat 1200 calories.

How many people are here working on week 4 anyway? It got really quiet in week 3.

Started Week 4 yesterday. My blood sugar levels are around 88 to 95 each day and I am down from injecting 30 units of NPH Basal Long term insulin in the evening to 20 units.

I am on holiday at the last 2 weeks and did not weigh myself. I am working on staying in my recommended calorie range every day and do exercise when I can. Today I did a 20 minute walk at 5.8 km/hour and 15 minutes of toning exercises. I concentrated on abdominal, chest and arm muscles today and did 3 sets of 20 crunches and reverse crunches as well as 3 sets of 20 minute wall push ups. I also did neck, shoulder and leg stretches.

Life is a journey... enjoy the ride!

Mid way through week 4. Feels good so far. I have lost 6 pounds so far. Blood sugars coming down. Yeah! My doctor will be so happy. I am 39 and my goal is to get off some of these meds I take. Exercise feels great this week. It seems much easier. The best part is my pants are getting loose. 6 pounds is not a lot, but loose pants feels good. My husband says I will do anything to go shopping. He is right, I can't wait to have a good excuse to buy some new clothes. Looking forward to week 5. So proud of myself, this is the longest I have ever stuck with anything, thanks SparkPeople!

So I lost 5.4 pounds last month, and my A1C was 6.5 down from 8.5! I feel pretty good about that. I haven't yet reached my goal to dip below 250 on the scale at home, but I'm super close and probably will be there by next weigh in on Friday. I've been doing well with what I eat, but not as well with incorporating strength training into my work outs. I'm planning to change that this week. Please feel free to keep in touch. I blog about 3 times a week.

emoticon Thanks George! I am trying to stay focused like my health, life and future depend on it (and that i AM worth more than any scrap of food in the moment.) It is a different focus for sure... so glad we have this challenge... I may just have to repeat. The weekly (i make it daily) structure of it helps me.

Truhart; have to position as you can't go back. I have started so many diets in the past. I have gained the weight that I have lost, time and time again. I have done better for over 2 years with Sparkpeople. Kind of like being a lab rat, but it really works. Hope you find the strength and purpose of what you are trying to do. Your health depends on it.

just starting wk 4 but almost 1/2 way?

i usually get urges to quit, go back to old eating foods about wk 3... I wonder if this will always be a struggle. I am trying to stay focused on how eating enough but not too much truly helps... Have to hold onto that when jf calls my name!

*lunch ideas... i like to eat legumes for my protein at lunch. in the summer smashed black beans, a wedge of laughing cow cheese, diced zuchini, sliced onion, bell pepper, torn spinach type stuff, couple tbsp salsa, maybe tbsp sour cream (cold foods) In the fall, i like bean soups/stews.

Maintaining weight loss. Balancing new dosage of diabetes medicine, Numbers vary so much that losing weight is hopeful. Keeping track of calories and diabetes readings everyday now for over 2 years. Never stayed with a diet this long. Lost the weight, but unfortunately diagnosed recently with Type 2 Diabetes. Another of life's challenges to face and overcome.

Maintaining weight. Lost 55 pounds but have gained about 10 pounds. I think its due to the medication and having to eat 3 meals of the same amount of calories. Drinking a lot of fluids too. Picking up the exercise routine also. Legs get cramped from it too. Feel better and look better though.

Great job everyone!

@Shay I found that making sure I have snacks between or after major meals doesn't cause me to binge eat as much, and when I do have a major meal I can feel when I'm full sooner. I'm doing a great job monitoring my calories, I can't wait to weigh in on Sunday and see if I've lost more weight!

Starting week 4 with a bang - down 10 pounds since starting this challenge. Excited that I am now able to do 4-5 cardio/toning workouts per week.

I've been watching what I eat and actually measuring things out. Boy did I used to over eat. I have found that even though I am eating less that with eating more meals a day (4-5) that I am not nearly as hungry as when I ate three big meals a day.

Week 4 Day 6 !!! FBS 122 and that was right after are walk with the Pups for a 30min/mile !
So that was really great! Had breakfast and then took a 15 min health walker cardio workout. And as the heat was moving up quickly I then did the 15 mins on the bike ! By that time I'd done wore myself into a sweat that just couldn't get checked without a nice shower.

After a healthy lunch my friend and I decided that we could get an even better workout over at the pool and put in a 30 min swim. Then the grandchildern and their friends came over to the pool and well, swimming inbetween 6 very active little ones became more of a challenge than I wanted to deal with.

Dinner was a little unhealthy because I was just to hot to cook so it was a beef hot dog meal with a wonderful salad! Glad I made it first thing this morning ! NOW I'm just sitting around the house with Spark People ! Hope everyone is keeping hydrated in this heat wave that we find ourselves in. There is talk of rain for tomorrow and I'm praying that it really comes this way ! Good evening everyone !

Week 4 day 3. Did 20 mins of cardio as a warm-up then the toning video (seated band workout). I found the tonigh workout to be too easy so I'll have to try and find something tougher. I have a nice toning video from Cathe - "Total Body Sculpting" that is challenging enough and works the whole body, so I think I'll do that Thursday instead of the SP video.

My weigh-in isn't until the weekend so no idea if I've lost more yet or not, but so far 6 pounds. I've been sticking within my calorie limit, tracking my food and eating well.

Feeling stronger, more energized, and happier.
