it's been a good 4 weeks - adding more fitness minutes as well as varied activity - zumba last night for first time in 3 yrs.

My week 4 results are abysmal- I thought about doing week 4 over, but then decided to just keep on keeping on.

Here are my excuses:

Excercise- nada. I know this isn't good. I am in the process of getting divorce- See my blog A Good Wife would. Anyway, although I know exercise would be better for me, I am mentally drained at the moment. Will try better on week 5.

Logging and eating has been sporadic. I haven't done my daily intentions - So no matter what I can do better next week

Got my blood sugar monitor working so no able to get my level. Checked today and got
85 mg/dL before lunch and 117 mg/dL before bed. I was unable to check before breakfast but I will be able to check fbs in the morning.

Ate a good breakfast today. It had peas, carrots, bell peppers and onion mixed with egg then put on tortilla with a little cheddar cheese and salsa.

Experienced low blood sugar yesterday @ 1035 pm (61). Had couple orange slices and 4 snickers minis to get back on tract. Slept well with no issues. emoticon

My Glucose monitor is not working so unable to test blood sugars. I have been monitoring so long that I know when my blood sugars are too high or too low. The medications I take seen to be keeping my blood sugar numbers pretty even lately. I will be glad when I get monitor fixed.

Wk 4, Day 6 - Yup. Weight went down by 1/2 pound. The calculator says I will lose a pound a week eating the number of calories that I'm eating. So far, it ain't so, but I'm hoping that next Sunday I will stand on the scales and will have lost 5 pounds this week...I am so hungry!

Wk 4, Day 4 - It's Saturday. Woke up late. Day passed too quickly. Keeping my carbs down. This is strange, but I'm not seeing a relationship between my blood sugars and my diet, per se. A lot depends on what time I get up. When I get up at 7, my sugars are @136; at 8, 146; at 9 (like this morning-156. Then they continue to rise until about 1 or 2pm and start to go up and down until there lowest at bedtime. Bananas take the sugars to 216, other fruit to 201-206. I don't think anybody knows anything about diabetes. Including, especially me! 8-)
Gained 3 lbs from eating "out." Those 3 are gone today; wonder what it going to be tomorrow.

Day 1 Week 4. I increased my cardio sessions last week so I will just keep that up. I wish my FBS would have gone down more but other than that I really enjoyed working out last week. I have been tracking my food since January 4th.

I was going to call about my test strips and they called me bright and early this morning. They said that they never got a fax from the Dr with the order for my supplies so finally they called my Dr and got it straightened out. My supplies should be mailed out tomorrow and maybe from a state right next to me, so cross my fingers...hope they come soon! I am anxious to know my

I still haven't gotten my test strips...Monday I am going to call and investigate what the hold up is! It has been almost a month since I ordered them and they said they were shipping them out the next day! I wonder where they went to or if they are still waiting to be shipped!

WEEK 4 DAY5
I really needed a day off today but didn't want to break my momentum so I did the minimum of 10 minutes on treadmill at easy pace.
Yesterday the nurse from my endocrinologist called and said he wanted to see me today.
As I suspected, my last A1c is elevated (7.1).
I have to get more serious. This AM my FBS was 124 but that is only because for the last week I've been paying more attention. I just can't slack off until I am down constantly.

I was casting about all morning for an excuse to not exercise. Of course there was none but I was trying.
Finally at about 3 PM guilt took over and I just got off treadmill and at the highest rate to date.
Now to some leg strength exercises.

Having almost no trouble getting off my backside to exercise. Have to increase time and effort but I am confident that will come as I get stronger.

WEEK 4 DAY 2
Too early to brag but I seem to finally be in an exercise mind set,
Can't seem to lose any weight.
Been tracking my food for many days now and always come in under the 1500 cal I am shooting for. So, I must conclude that I am not tracking accurately.
I will see what happens with tracking over next few days but next weigh in is not until next Monday.

starting wk 4 today .. been doing my exercise - drinking - but eating is wrong due to diverticulitis still there - scared to increase my fiber and go back to my low carb plan - gastric dr will not see me before the 16th - yep he can be replaced --- they say go to er --- been there done that .. not doing it again when we know what it is - just would need another ct scan to see what is going on - sorry venting

Day 2
I am semi pleased with myself.
Did 3 10 minute walks on treadmill.
Problem now is that tomorrow morning I fly to Bangkok.
The hotel has a great swimming pool so I need to make sure I get in and swim for at least 30 minutes.
Also diet will be problem as eating in restaurants

Day one week four.
Last week was a disaster. Virtually no exercise and diet only fair at best.
In the past that would be an excuse to start over but this time I am going to move forward with week 4.
I have to travel on Tuesday through Thursday but hotel has good swimming pool and workout room. I will manage to get exercise but diet will be hard to control what with business lunches and dinners. Fortunately I don't drink so can eliminate that as a temptation.

Well, this has been one tough week!! Trying hard to hold on. Not a lot of progress. I've lost a total of 3 lbs so far but I have been more consistent with things like eating breakfast, drinking all my water, taking my meds and tracking food and bs #'s.

OK, tracking food qd,

and walking each work day - the express buses are about half a mile from the house and so cover that twice a day - so walking at least five days a week

behind on the dumbbell toning workouts - but i'm a weight training expert so just have to pick the damned things up off the floor either in the mornings or in the evenings.

planning on no added sugar diet as well- but just today had a sugary soda, something i have not done in year and years.

Week 4 day 1

These next 4 weeks I really need to step it up! I've done better but there is lots of room for improvement! My main focus this week is WALKING and being less sedentary in general!

I had to change up my exercise due to a lot of pain in my neck and shoulders. I normally complete 15-20 min. ST with weights, but now I am working out in the pool and running on the treadmill. I have to increase the incline and speed for my heart to work at 85% which is not easy! I miss the weights, but for now I will do what I can to drop some weight!

My week 4 started off well. I increased the incline on my treadmill by 2, but I paid for it the next day. My bad ankle was swelled all day and I liked to never got through my simple, slow 30 minute treadmill. So, as a way to increased my exercise this week I've decided to add in some floor exercises.

For those of you who have read my posts you know that I have undergone a serious medical procedure last Tuesday.
As predicted by the doctor, the cortisone shots caused my blood sugar to spike upward significantly.
However, now being pain free it should allow me to do exercises regularly.
But, being in the middle of this challenge I decided this would not be a good "starting" point.
So, I've decided to start the challenge over tomorrow (Monday 20 July) and expect to carry through on all aspects.
See you then.

Woke up this morning and did painless morning stretches - yaay.
The doctor did warn me that the shots of cortisone would temporarily spike my blood sugar upward.
However the FBS I showed this AM was shocking: 254!
I will be extra careful about diet and hope it gets back to a normal range quickly.

Just got home from Bangkok. It appears that injection are working. As of now, about 36 hours later, I am at least 75% pain free.
No squirming in Airplane seat or rides to from airport.
It looks like I can expect further improvement in the next few days.
What a relief.
Now to get on a full exercise program and proper diet program. emoticon
No excuses now.

Week 4, Day 6...Only able to go to the gym in the morning because of doctor appointments this week but was still able to work out 80 minutes this morning (Elliptical and Treadmill). I will miss my afternoon workouts (60 minutes on Treadmill) until Friday. Yesterday my massage therapist commented that I looked like I'd lost weight. I was so elated...someone noticed! LOL I have a long way to go but with Spark I know this time I'll make it.

Thanks for the encouraging words. It will take 24 to 48 hours before we know if injections are going to work but doctor was very positive. He showed me the x rays and pointed out that the cortisone was placed exactly as planned. Fingers crossed. emoticon

Week 4, Day 5...

OLMANED: I restarted about 4 weeks into my plan because I wasn't sure exactly what I was doing. I'm glad I'm following completely. I believe in just taking things one day at a time and being thankful for waking up on the right side of the grass each day. Just keep taking it one day at a time and based on how you feel, keep pushing forward carefully. I admire you for putting up with the discomfort and still thinking positive. Good luck!

I considered re-starting this challenge again because up until today I have had tremendous back and leg pain which prevented me from exercising adequately.
Today I just received steroid injections into my spine and the doctor expects very good success as he put the cortisone exactly as planned based on MRI and X-rays.
However, I think I will proceed with this challenge and see if I can meet the parameters.

Week 4, Day 3 checkin...I lost another 3 ounces. Only change I've really made in the past week is to stop eating one peach per day and no cherries. Perhaps I was getting too much fructose...time will tell.

Week 4, Day 2 checking in...finally lost 3 ounces. I am prediabetic so I'm not taking measurements yet and trying hard to not become diabetic...changing my lifestyle is a must and what I've been doing for the past few years.

Week 4 Day 7
BS 6.9 (4-7 is normal range)
I'm trying to focus on the fitness part of this challenge - strength training and cardio. Plus swimming once or twice per week. This is the challenge part for me. Will be working from home the next two weeks so maybe more time to focus on this. The PanAm and Para PanAm Games are in Toronto and our city will be wild with enthusiasm and traffic!

Newellen - looking out at the ocean while exercising! That sounds wonderful.

Dear T-10...your gym sounds delightful. I, too, am blessed to have a full fitness center where I live, although there are windows looking out at the Atlantic Ocean. Not sure I could deal with no windows...no sunlight. South Florida is hot and humid so having an air conditioned facility inside is a great bonus. Now if I could just turn all that cardio into weight loss. Working at it daily. Good luck to you!

Week 4 Day 6
Sounds great, I'll have to put resistance bands as one of my rewards. I too do not like sun or heat. We live in the country so a mall is 45 min away in either direction, we live on a big hill with long driveway, almost one car passing so walking on it is out, and the road at the end of the driveway is a highway with no sidewalks.

When we built our house, we also built a big building with no inside walls behind our house. We put in an indoor/outdoor carpet on the cement, a pellet stove, basketball hoop, a removable big pole for nets (volleyball, badminton), anyway it is now a gym. So I'm a lucky girl to be able to walk in the gym. It rains a lot here so it's also nice to have sports & ping pong/pool/air hockey year around. You would think I'd be in shape instead of 295 pounds! I really am very fortunate to have easy access to everything I need to exercise (also wt bench, wts and dumbbells, jump rope) and a hot tub to swim in and relax in. Laziness and overeating caused my obesity now I'm making a effort to be a daily exerciser and eat better.

Worked hard using my resistance bands yesterday - should probably not push too much - I don't want to develop resistance to resistance bands ( sorry for the pun!)
My elder daughter also used my bands for a workout - that was wonderful to see. I love the fallout of healthy living for the rest of my family.
So things are going pretty well except for walking. I don't like the sun or the heat so will try some mall walking or evening.

When the student is ready, the teacher will appear.

LOL Sandra ~ we'll just keep each other moving! I was invited to join a private group on Facebook by one of my friends - they check in daily to keep each other accountable and motivated so I joined in. Many of them are doing "Beach Body" eating and workouts - does that tell you something or what!!! Ha ha ha, yep fit people just staying fit! We'll be there someday too.
