The nutrition tracker has informed me that I am missing certain minerals.....potassium seems to be coming up quite frequently.....I have been adding more foods with these items into my diet. I noticed that my sodium goes through the roof if I eat anything canned or frozen dinners. I am now paying more attention to canned items to make sure they are low sodium.

Just take it one day at a time.

I wish there was a Vegan tracker plan. I'm using the tracker and looking at carbs and calories, and it is helping just to track what I put in my mouth.

I have found using the nutrition tracker has made me more aware of what I am putting in my mouth. as a result I am putting less in and of better quality. I am not always nutritious but it is not the norm for me. I was really surprised at what a difference it makes.

how has the nutrition tracker has been helping you? I stay within my calorie range 90% of the time. I wish it gave you more feed -back on the reports. I would like it to list how many servings of protein, carbs, fats I have consumed and how many servings of grains, vegetables and fruits. I know I can figure it out, but it would help me stay on track. It would also highlight when the tracker is not showing a cup of soup as having a serving of vegetables.

What have you learned about your eating habits? I am always short on fiber, but some times when I go back and look at the nutritional information the fiber is listed as zero for things that have fiber. Like bean soup

What have you been changing based on the feedback? I keep trying to get enough fiber

How have your blood sugars been responding? Much better under 110 in the morning

BG 81 this morning, had a banana w peanut butter and went for a 2 mile walk. Came back very hungry and had a large salad... When I added it up it was a pretty big meal. I think I will go back to eating my Oatmeal, egg white and cinnamon in AM as it is more filling, especially if I am going out to exercise. At the end of day I am still under 1200 calories but 9 fat grams over high end. I guess it is not bad for a holiday but I think I could have thought it through a little better at the start of the day.

Live with courage, compassion and joy!

FBS 137 no two days are the same I am a retired person so I do pretty much what I want. Although I do try hard to have some routine in my life it difficult. I enjoy serving with the missionary at church and helping the sister in the Relief Society. when it is need so because of it I can get up thinking I will be doing things around the house and the next minutes taking so one to the hospital. (I love it) understand I not complaining. I care my planner with me and just move things around. or tell them I sorry it is not so important some would say this is stressful but I have a choice and i always get the important things done. This all help me with the emotions that come and go with the lost of a husband. any way just a piece of my life.

two years lost 32 than lots of stress now starting again but less than the first time. 3 step forward than one back. not 2 or 3 there is HOPE

I actually have not received any feedback here, however, tracking keeps me looking at every bite, and ensuring that I am staying in good sugars. March 5, I began a plant based eating plan and my fbs were around 68 and post meals 99. This week I noticed that because I was not home and had to eat out, and although I made great choice, my fbs is up 30 points, so back to my home food - no travel right now.

SANDRA - - What is your normal FBS? Is 159 higher than you usually have? Sometimes the FBS can be higher on a particular day because of something we ate the night before. Tomorrow, it is apt to be lower than the 159 you had this time. If it goes on for more than a few days, I'd check with your physician and let him/her know about it.

First day of week 3. I'm glad to see the resistance band exercises...I'm starting to get squishy & jiggly in the arms & thighs (and tummy) and hope this will help the muscles firm up a bit, even if the skin is loose. I think I need to buy a new scale. My old one is in storage and I have been relying on dr. visits to monitor my weight, but now I'm actually curious to see the changes more often than every three months. emoticon
Then again, going through my storage might give me a jump start on the dreaded spring cleaning; or as my Goal Board has posted. ... "Get Organized"...."Form better habits"....

I've liked the workout video with resistance bands. I'm going to go back to it once in a while. I've used a combination of resistance bands. I started with the least and then would change to the next level. Those leg moves, though, used the lightest ones. I have a set of bands with several levels, so I can use this video....forever...just by changing the bands.

Go team! Stay strong!

Ok... Christmas and New Years is over. Managed to lose ... not much but better than the 10 lb gain I am used to over the holidays. Need to track exercise better. Had to shovel snow 5 times on New Years day. Good thing it is light.

I'm doing good. I feel much better. I only got the pre-diabetes diagnosis in mid-June and then stop "sort of" doing all the good things like tracking, exercising, drinking all my water, dieting. By using the tracker, checking into my email wt loss group, and then joining this challenge, ten pounds just dropped right off me. I'm thinking it was mostly water and inflammation because now it's slowed way down. The actual working at it may now have started. LOL. But it's okay. I never thought I'd feel this normal again.

I've learned that foods that I thought were fairly healthy, are really loaded with sugar and carbs (baked beans for one). It's really helped with portion sizes. Using the nutrition tracker is critical for me to stay on track and lose weight.

My week three is MUCH better than my week 2. For personal reasons, mostly. But they do affect your ability to diet, exercise. So THIS week - I'm on fire. I'm eating healthy and enjoying the meals, I'm prepared in my diet, and I've made time for the gym. Although I've done it for several weeks now, this week I feel good about it. Physically. I'm feeling strong, energetic, and motivated.

So YAY! I nice perk after all that hard work. Let's hope this is the new road to improved living!

The nutrition tracker has made me take a closer look at what I eat. For the most part I make good choices, but I have learned to reduce the fat. Also I was shocked to see that the cupcake I ate at an office birthday party was a quarter of the calories I consumed that day. While I enjoyed every bite I could certainly have gotten better nutritional value with a different snack.

Hi everyone, beginning my 3rd week here with the team and feeling more confident and exercising more which was harder for me to start than eating healthy. Honestly I am so glad to be doing this with all of you. I have been reading articles with regards to diabetes, and learning so much as well as doing the quizzes and trivia and it is a real eye opener.

My goal this week is to increase my water intake as well as walk more. I am doing the leslie sansone walk away the pounds express tape and it really is a good one. For those of you that need to exercise and can't make it to the gym or have exercise equipment tapes such as this is a big help. I get mine at our local library. You might want to see what your library has to offer as well.

Have a great day everyone

The nutrition tracker has been great! I was using MyFitnessPal, an app on my I-phone, which I also liked! What I liked about that food tracking program was that you also recorded your exercise and suggestions were offered about whether you could consume more calories with the exercise and still lose weight. I have totally switched to SparkPeople's nutrition tracker at this time because I want to get the spark points! I plan to check out the app that SparkPeople has for the I-phone but just haven't gotten to it yet.

Thanks,
Gail

I love the nutrition tracker. It was a real wake up call to see what I was really eating. I have learned to make better choices. I manually enter all my foods and enter them to my favorites. This way I know I have the correct values entered and it saves time. My daughter also does Spark people, so we import manually entered foods from each other which saves some time too. The one thing I still have a problem with is getting the nutritional values on meals I cook. It seems very time consuming. I do try to find new recipes which include the calorie count, saving me time, just manually entering the name of recipe with the nutritional values listed with the recipes and adding to my favorites.

Never give up.
I am the only one who can hold me back.

We have natural fluctuations of weight during the day with weighing several pounds more in the evening than first thing in the morning. Also, fluid retention can cause you to appear to gain weight but is usually only temporary. I know all about getting discouraged with watching the scale and am trying to weigh only once per week now.

Congratulations Darlene, what a great feeling that must be. I don't weigh in until Thursday and it is still causing me some anxiety because I am used to weighing every day or a couple of times a day, but I am hoping it is keeping me getting so upset over the daily fluctuations of weight. My Blood Sugar levels have been doing good! So wanting to see my A1c ha ha.

I have had company all week staying with us which has made it difficult to track nutrition, exercise or to really stick to my diet plan but I am still losing slowly so I guess I'm doing OK.

Easter was my only really bad day, but I knew it would be. Other than that I've noticed my calories and protein numbers are creeping up a little as time goes by. It's not sweets or carbs but the amount of meat I eat. I have kidney problems and shouldn't be overdoing the protein, so I'm going to have to adjust my plate a little.

I was very diligent about tracking through most of the week. I noticed that the days I was really good and stuck with my diet plan and tracking my sugars ran good to low. I had a goal this week of being honest with myself and accountable. I had a situation come up where we went out to eat and I tracked everything. COULD NOT believe how bad that food was for me! Nutrition tracking is definitely an eye opener!

The social situations are difficult for all of us. It helps if you have some idea what food will be served and can decide what you will eat before you go. We have been having evangelistic meetings at our church and serving refreshments after each meeting. I have learned to save about 250 calories for that situation which means I can indulge myself with one cookie, some veggies and dip and a watered down drink of some kind of fruit juice. This has worked fairly well for me and allowed me to be friendly and take part without feeling like I'm messing up my diabetes challenge. Of course all situations aren't that predictable.

This has been a REALLY difficult week. Social situations have arisen more often than I would have liked which have taken me to restaurants and such and caused me to go over, over, over in so many of my value counts.
BUT, all that extra sodium HAS given me cause to drink even more water than just "the norm". LOL!!!
AND, I have still been able to trade out some things for veggies at restaurants and such and add more veggies to the meals I've prepared and cooked at home.
Also, I experienced Shirataki noodles this week. Nice find! Really great exchange for regular high carb noodles. Seem to work best in Asian dishes... but still!!! Nice!
Thankfully, my blood sugar counts seem to be staying down even without the Actos!!! YAY! Can't wait to get my new A1C. Hope it's really good news!
Finally, this week has reinforced in my mind how much I REALLY need to find a way and come to terms with making these "social eating" situations more "doable" and "health friendly" in my life.
I am SOOOO looking forward to a better week!!!!
May yours be FANTASTIC as well!!! emoticon

Like several others here I "plug" in my planned meals for the day at the beginning of the day before I eat anything or after breakfast. It really helps to know what I can eat and still stay in the guidelines

While I have no problem with keeping track of my food and meeting my calorie goals I see that I am not getting nearly enough of most vitamins and minerals on the amount of food I can eat to meat that goal. I guess I will have to go back to taking my Renal vitamins. I don't think it is just my food choices but to lose a pound a week I can't eat more than 1000 to 1200 calories and this makes it difficult to meet the guidelines.

The Nutrition Tracker has helped me become better informed about the food choices I make. I have reduced my sodium intake. I will always remember the SHOCK I felt the first time I saw how much sodium is in cheese.

Another area that the Nutrition tracker is very helpful for me is Keeping my calories in control. One evening my husband came home with a pizza and asked; "Do you want some". I asked to see the Nutrition Label and tracked it on the Nutrition tracker, it showed I could eat 1/8 of a piece. So, I did without guilt and without gaining any weight. AND, i did not go back for more, because it would have put me over on my goals for the day. emoticon REALY COOL!!

I track my food MyPlateD on livestrong.com mainly because I was established there before SparkPeople was suggested to me.

When I tried this tracker here, I found it to be inaccurate and if I wanted to get the results I wanted I would have to enter everything manually that I eat. Why bother when I already have it set up on the other website. This tracker is way to confusing to find which entry to choose to get the one with the most info to add to my tracking. There doesn't seem to be any verification of the nutritional information after someone has manually entered the info. That is not the case on MyPlateD.

So, I can be in both places as both are free to the user. I am enjoying participating in the 8 week challenge here but I think I will keep my tracking at MyPlateD because it shows me the percentages in a pie format and I am more accustomed it. I can one click the foods I eat most without having too look them up all over again. I can put my recipes in privately without having to share with the whole site.

Meeting a Spark nutritional daily guidelines is a challenge from day to day.
Now I am determined to plan and learn more about Carb foods. I think keeping Carbs at a min; and the amount of exercise will be a challenging learning curve and better control my Glucose....I need to still learn how to better myself and balance my nutrition.

The nutrition tracker is the a great tool for keeping it real. When I over do it, the evidence is right in front of me with the calorie count...I love it!

Tracking has shown how I've been tricking myself when eating out. Some restaurants have nutrition info immediately available, so I make choices accordingly; others I will guess. When I get home, I'll look for a pdf of nutrition - my guesses are always lower by half than the pdf. Solution: check on-line BEFORE I walk out the door. Think I'll see if there's an app for that.
