Thank you. Congratulation Polly & Mengel as well. Each change & all steps, small & big, are victories on the path of a better you. Keep it going. Start small with the exercising, what works best for you. When you go to the doc maybe she can recommend exercises to get you started. I like the 10 min Cardio Kick workout video on SP, it works with my busy schedule. I started with baby steps (working out around the house: wall push ups, marching in place for 10 mins & pulling out my step for step aerobics) & I'm working on stepping it up each day. You are awesome!! Stay in it.

Congratulations on making a fresh start. I have an appointment with a new doc next week, and wonder what she'll recommend. I've already started to eat differently, Sparkpeople nutrition pages really help me evaluate foods before I eat them, and plan better. I started testing my glucose and find it interesting. Can't wait to talk with a dietitian! My greatest challenge is getting out of my chair, but since I started eating fewer carbs (about two weeks ago), I actually do feel like moving more. Paying attention to what I'm eating and planning ahead is also pushing me out the door. Sweet potatoes are now on my list. I miss all the lovely carbs too, but not enough to suffer the effects of uncontrolled diabetes. emoticon

I actually signed up/joined the challenge back in September but never did anything with the challenge beyond that. I am now ready & actively participating. I was diagnosed with being pre-diabetic in August of this year, diabetes runs on both sides of my family. My doctor instructed me not to avoid sugar (which is in everything ; I always use dark brown sugar & honey, not a fan of white sugar), rice flour, starch (again like sugar it's in just about everything), potatoes emoticon (my favorite but she did say I can eat sweet potatoes emoticon , another favorite), & rice. My goal is to lose the weight, continue to eat better, & continue to maintain an active lifestyle. I would like to lose 2-5 lbs a week, stay active daily (walking, bike riding with my children, practicing baseball more with my children & running around more with my children when they are playing) even if I do not put in a full workout daily, not make excuses, & continue to take the time to actively log-in to & participate with sparkpeople. I am ready & have already begun. emoticon In it to win it!!!
