I hope to accomplish one main objective from this 8-week plan ….. A set of habits to help me become fixed in a healthy routine. Eating breakfast, staying positive, exercising, being self motivated, tracking my food intake, and journaling.
My goals are to drink more water, eat more vegetables, stop eating junk food,and track my meals. I already walk 5 miles every day, which helps keep my sugar in the good range. I stop drinking diet drinks when I had my lap-band surgery in June. I lost 30 lbs. but gained 10 lbs. back, because I went back to eating junk food. So my main goal is to lose the 10 lbs. that I gained back.
Well, I must get back on track as I weighed myself this morning. Back up to 158 lbs. We now have a food service preparing our meals. With all of my different medical conditions I am having a difficult time eating correctly. Last few weeks resorting to alot of English muffins with peatnut butter and jelly. Not good for me. I sit at a receptionist desk for up to 7 hours a day, even eating my supper at the desk. Not a healthy combination for me. I do have my dvd player back now so I can play some exercise dvd's when it is quite there. Must begin again in the morning. Last month my A1C was 6.2.

Just joined this 8-week Diabetes Weight Loss Challenge. I am working on the final 10 pounds, and want to increase or maintain my exercise as one goal and to reduce my food intake, especially carbs, by perhaps 10 percent.
Will enjoy reading posts here for interest, tips, and inspiration
About 4 years ago, my doc informed me that I was pre-diabetic, made me go through the Diabetes Education classes. I cried when I had to test my blood sugar the first time. I NEVER want to go through that again!
I lost a lot of weight and then gained it back and here I am. I have a pretty crummy family health history and just need to take one day at time and not give up. My goal this week is to follow the program outlined by SP and walk with friends so my body doesn't figure out it's exercising.

SMAILEH, Your entry could have been written by me -- especially the capital letters of HIGH for triglycerides (I'm evidently too fond of wine & cheese). I've just joined Sparkspeople yesterday and there's so much to absorb! Can you, or anyone else, tell me if the first week of the Diabetes Weight Loss Challenge runs from Sunday thru Saturday, or does it start the day one joins? I'd like to know if I had a full week to accomplish or just the few days remaining. It's that exercise thing that I'm stalling on! Thanks for any replies.
HI MY NAME IS PAT I'M JUST STARTING THIS CHALLENGE MISSED IT EARLIER. I WAS DIAGNOSED AS TYPE DIABETIC ABOUT 5 YEARS AGO. MY BLOOD SUGARS HAVE NEVER RAN HI. WAS ON METFORMIN FOR 4 YEARS. DIDN'T TAKE MOST OF THE TIME. ABOUT 8-0 MONTHS AGO MY DR. TOOK ME OFF METFORMIN SO NO DIABETIC MEDS. MY HIAC CONTINUES TO RUN LOW 4.3 TO 5.O. I TRY TO EAT HEALTHY. HOPING THIS CHALLENGE WILL HELP ME GET IN GOOD FITNESS HABIT OF EXERCISING DAILY.
Like so many others, I've been diagnosed with pre-diabetes and have high blood pressure, high cholesterol, HIGH triglycerides. I've tried other plans and will admit that I'm entering this with some skeptism and from past experience know to not be overly enthusiastic. For now, I want to build the habit of daily exercise and cutting back on bread.
