TAN, if you have a child that is a very big motivation right there for you. If you are the child's example it will work for both of you. Think about your goals and write them down, Make small goals so you accomplish them and move on to the next goal, that really helps you to feel good as you accomplish each small step.
I use the diabetic tracker I feel it helps me stay in my Calorie, carbs, fats and protein goals for each meal or snack so i can see what I an actually eating.
That is the key.
I thought I ate healthy for years and once I measured and weighed my healthy food i discovered I was simply eating TOO MUCH of it.
