day 3 cardio and wts = done!

i've noticed when i stay within carb range, my total calories are on the low end and sometimes under range by around 200 calories and i'm not hungry. i believe eating nutriously keeps me satiated so i'm not going to force myself to eat just to stay 'within' range. I'm going to listen to my body and eat when i'm hungry and stop when I'm full. keep going peeps!

Today is Day 1 of week 1 for me and I started the day off with the SparkPeople 9 minute lower body sculpt. My legs are pretty tired. I am not a big breakfast eater but I did have a slice of peanut butter toast this morning. I never drink water so I want to start slow and move up from there. My goal today is to drink 2 glasses of water (minimum).

I hope everyone's day is blessed! We can do this!

I came back yesterday to SparkPeople. My A1C numbers are still not low enough. I am back to tracking what I eat each day and ensure my carbs are kept within the guidelines the nutrition provided to me.

Readings yesterday were great until the evening. I am going to have to see what I can do different today to keep the numbers low throughout the day.

Hello,

This is Week 1 and Day 1 for me. Dang, used up 43 grams of carbs just on breakfast! Guess I'll be watching what I eat in carbs for the rest of the day and not either eat or eat so much of the cereal I had this morning.

I had an outpatient procedure today & went under anesthesia. I had 4 injections in my spine. I am a bit sore. They told me the shots will increase my Blood sugar so I better watch it. However, I was not allowed to eat after midnight so when I woke up, I was hungry. I wanted a cheat meal & indulged in a cheeseburger and fries. The fries were almost as many calories as the burger! Ack! I gotta get right back on track tomorrow!

Today was a good day. Talk a nice walk, including up the hill out of our neighborhood. Went to the pool and jogged for 20 minutes. It is a neighborhood pool and not ideal for swimming laps; it is a weird shape (I wonder if they do that to discourage lap swimming?) I have a membership to a gym with a swimming pool and I use that for swimming laps. It was such a nice day today, though, I wanted to be outside. Right now, the only place I can jog is in the pool, as the water supports my joints and is much easier on my knees. I am hopeful that as I lose weight, I will be able to jog on the treadmill or the high school track.

I was diagnosed two days ago with type 2 diabetes. I have been checking my sugars in morning, after each meal and before bed like my doctor has asked me to do. I will continue with that and watching what i eat and tracking through sparks. I have to make these changes and take back control of my life. Thanks for the 8 week challenge opportunity and support.

Hi ladies! emoticon

Yesterday went well. By not eating junk, or having DD coffee coolatas, (which would have been a total of 4 that I didn't have), I've lost 2 lbs since Monday. I did go to DD and swapped over to an iced coffee with sweet and low. I was ok with that. It wasn't as bad as I figured it would be, and it was much cheaper....

Have a good day!

I had a crazy day yesterday so I didn't get my sugar tested. This morning before breakfast, it was 148. I want to keep it down because my A1C is above 7 and I don't want it to be there. I was wondering, if there is anyone else who feels hungry a lot even with eating our carb snacks. Should I add a protein to it? Any suggestions would be helpful.

I thought today went well. No simple carbs, and no sugar, that I am aware of.. But I didn't have a candy bar on my break at work, I grabbed a banana instead. Then I hear that you are not suppose to eat a whole banana. Isn't it better than a candy bar? I tracked all I ate today, and stayed in all of my ranges. I haven't worked out today. I'm tuckered out...

Am I the only person on week 1? I have to figure I am, since I am the only one posting. I'm really lonely. emoticon

Today went well. I've had plenty to eat. I made a plain greek yogurt and frozen Maine blueberry parfait with some regular granola, and I've been picking on that when I got hungry. My intention was to have them for breakfast, but I had to try it. I do have one made up for breakfast tomorrow. It is really good. I am a sweets eater, and I've made it all day without any cookies or such. This morning, the cookies and white bread found their way to the trash. I swapped them out with whole wheat bread and the fixins for the parfaits.

I've been putting off cleaning out the garage. I worked out there for about 2 hours this morning. I made a good dent in it. And got a good workout...

I just found out today that I am diabetic. Tomorrow is my Day 1. I'm not ordered to take my readings for now, so I am "winging it" till my next appointment the 21st of next month. I'm hoping to see a good change for that visit. My A1C was 14. I show no outwards signs of being diabetic. I asked how that is, because when my DH found out he was, he was borderline comatose. My doc said that I've probably had it for so long, I'm just use to feeling terrible, and don't realize how terrible I really feel..

Happy just to have my fasting level below 200 for the last few days! I just came back to SparkPeople on 7/22/14 after 4 yrs away. My A1C was 11.7% a week ago and my Dr added glypizide, along with my Metformin. I lost 3 pounds this week and hope to have A1C much lower by next check! emoticon

Remembered to check my fasting blood glucose, had an unusual, but healthy breakfast, and have been having a relatively light day physically.

I've been really diligent and worked really hard all week, and it's important for me to chill out sometimes.

It helps that it rained cats and dogs all day and I prefer exercising outside.

I remembered to test this morning.

Fasting blood glucose is still hovering above the normal range, but only by a little.

This means I am beginning to keep it consistently borderline, despite having weight to lose.

Seems I'm doing the right things, and will do them some more!

I know I am doing well in terms of what I am eating, how much of it, and how often.

I also know I am doing well in terms of getting adequate exercise.

But this morning I forgot to test my blood sugar before breakfast. I do this at least once or twice a week, and I have to get it in check, because my fasting blood glucose is the baseline measure for all that I am doing. It is THE bottom line.

I only just joined the diabetes challenge, but it turns out I'm doing the right things as it is.
I'm glad to be part of this forum though, because it helps to connect with people who share my specific health concerns.

Hi y'all! I joined a few weeks back, and have been doing well, but I didn't check in. I hope all are well. Between my new meds and SP, my blood sugar is starting to come closer in to line. It's been a trial, over the past few years, but I am determined to move toward my goal. Forty Pounds down so far, and 20 of that just this year. So I am encouraged. Thank you all for being here!

Week 1, Day 2

Did strength video. Tracking food.

I was supposed to see a nutritionist today. i went to the hospital to check in for my appt. The woman at the desk kept getting this odd look on her face. Finally she asked if I had been told the cost, after insurance. I told her no. The cost was over $1500. That's right - two zeros, after insurance. Both of us were horrified! I was told on the phone when they called to make the appt it was for a 2hr session - one on one with a nutritionist. What I had been signed up for was a series of very expensive classes. Needless to say I did NOT attend! I will be calling to find out what the miscommunication was and how to fix it.

Even if you are on the right track, you’ll get run over if you just sit there.

WEEK ONE

DAY 4

I participated in the desk workout, and I'm well within my recommended calorie count for the day, even with an afternoon snack.

Week 1 is coming to a close...on day 6...and I'm going strong. Had a couple of slips over the weekend, but won't let them get me down.
Today I did a treadmill workout...using various couch to 5 k workouts and a ninja fitness app I found....for 35 minutes. Calories were over, but hubby ordered Pizza Hut for supper tonight. I refuse to deny myself anything except soda. Tomorrow I will add extra to my workout to make up for the extra and move on.
I'm a nurse with achy joints and degenerative disk and joint disease in my back as well as diabetes. I'm in almost constant pain. I will get this weight off!!!

WEEK ONE

DAY 1

No exercise today, but I did find out I get to re-map my 5-mile bike route. The river bottom road I usually travel is flooded.

I did choose healthy food all day, and limited my eating to 3 meals and one snack.
I haven't had any soda today.
And I remained within my recommended calorie range for the day, though toward the high end.

JAZZIBLU - Glad you didn't get down on yourself too much. We all have one of these days every so often. After all, this is only the 2nd day of the 1st week! Three pounds down is great! Try to be sure that you have something for breakfast as it's the breakfast that gives our metabolisms their first boost to get us started during the day. Your exercise is fabulous!! Keep up the good work!

Week 1 day 2 checking in....messed up a bit today, but not to bad. We ate at a Chinese buffet for lunch, and I hadn't had more then coffee and water for breakfast. I did however order water to drinking teas of usual soda, ate a plate of salad to start, and stayed away from all my favorite sticky sweet sauced items. Cut my rice serving in half, only ate half of teriyaki chicken stick, left sauce of the 2 small pieces of sweet and sour chicken I got....so since I am 2 ounces roughly away from 60 ounces of water drank today at 3:22 and I walked on treadmill for 30 min then played with my new Ninja Fitness app for 20 minutes I'm not going to b down on myself. I'll just cut back on how much spaghetti I eat at supper and will have a piece of fruit for dessert. Tomorrow is a new day, and I have lost 3 pounds this week since getting back on track.

Checking in. Just starting back with Sparkpeople after a long hiatus. Really need the support found here so not sure why I left. So far this week I have stayed within calorie range, have done 30 minutes each day of exercise, and have drank at least 80 oz of water. I work 12 hr shifts 4 days a week so these are hard for me to do, but my body and mind needs this change.
This is my day 1 because I am just rediscovering this great site, but I'm here to stay.

Yesterday was stressful, first day of the month (I work in Accounting) and everything that could go wrong did! I ate healthy (omlete for breakfast) salad for lunch, meat and veggies for dinner. BUT at night (that is my weakness), I ate two bags of 100 calorie popcorn emoticon

Yesterday was not a good day for me as the heat got to me. I ate at Subway because I thought my sugar was off. I took it before I ate and it was 150. I felt a bit better after I got cooled down. I made wise choices though. I had sweet onion teriyaki chicken on a Honey oat bun (6"), no cheese on it, spinach, olives, pickles and I did ask for tomato but she must not have heard me, and I had no dressing on it. Also grabbed a bag of Baked Potato Chips and a Minute Maid Light Lemonade. I got cooled off but went back out into the store and the wave of nausea, weakness, and light headedness hit me again. After I got home, I got cooled off, put in a movie and took a nap.

Soar with the eagles.

ROSALIE - Everyone's body will react differently to different foods. By keeping tract of your glucose after eating something (in your case after eating the almonds) it showed that the almonds caused your glucose to rise, unless you had something else shortly before eating them. That's the importance of using the Nutrition Tracker provided on your Start Page. Evidently the walnuts reacted differently than the almonds did. Almonds are a healthy nut although not for you evidently.

Continue to keep an eye on your glucose including before and after your exercising for a little while anyway. The exercising should bring your glucose down. Be sure you eat a little something before and after you exercise as well as drinking plenty of water before, during, and after your exercises as well.

If you continue to have problems like that you might want to contact your doctor or dietician if it becomes bothersome to you.

If you have any other problems/questions, please let us know by continuing to post. There's always someone just around the corner that will be happy to help you out.

Day 4 Week 1.. I did good as far as my food intake. I walked only 6104 steps today. I am aiming for 10,000.. I spent 99% of my day in the kitchen preparing food for the week. A Roast, I made Salsas, cooked veggies, and I made sugar free strawberry jam. Whole lot of dishes to wash. I don't like using my dishwasher.

I just joined for the 8 week challenge on Friday, however I should have waited until today to start..regardless…I have been monitoring my glucose levels every two hours to see what is going on and when it is going on. I noticed that I had a significant spike from 120 to 210 when I ate almonds. I thought almonds were supposed to be good for you. I have been eating almonds every day for a long time…until now that is…gave six bags of almonds to the neighbor. Is that common to have a "healthy" food spike like that? I ate a quarter cup of walnuts and my levels came down to 89 after that.

Any insight?

emoticon Having your blood count coming down is awesome. Keep up the good work. Your weight will start moving or you will start seeing your clothes starting to get loose.

Week 1 -Day 2 have to start strength training today. I walk daily so that will not be a problem.
Tracking everything I eat. Staying with in calorie limits. Weight has not moved I have been doing this for 3 weeks but the blood count is coming down and that is the main thing.
