Tracking my food today. Have met the goals for nutrition except for protein and fiber. Not too far off. This is my weakest part, the tracking. I can do it for a few days, then get busy and don't take the time to do it. I know that this is the key to my success. Next on the agenda is exercise. 2 of our children (1 married with 2 kids and 1 being born tomorrow) have moved back in with us so the house is filled to the brim. Treadmill is in the living room where youngest son is sleeping until Christmas tree comes down in other room. Makes it difficult to walk in the mornings which is my best time. Will have to make time in the evening until January. Wish me luck!! emoticon

Week 1 day 7
Well, struggling with my father's passing not only emotionally but with trying to make sure I eat properly and exercise today. I don't feel like eating but I am at least still pushing forward. I am now going to go work with some weights and get that exercise tracked. Trying not to feel stressed with getting everything packed and ready to travel 800 miles by car. Feeling like things are difficult but not impossible.

I had a not too bad week. I am starting to take my sugar count again. It hasn't been good this week, around 7.4 and the metformin is suppose to keep it at 5 - 5.8 so obviously I'm not eating correctly. And I know it. I haven't been having vegetables. No wonder I'm sick.

I do have a question. How do you figure out the calories for the sitting videos? I couldn't find a calorie count for the desk exercises. Yes I know that they change depending on the weights but a minimum amount would be nice to have. The one I did this morning was:

Week 1, Day 2 for me.

I ate a Subway footlong meatball sandwich on honey wheat with provolone, cucumbers, and mayo. I also ate 2 chicken and shrimp fajitas.

Beverages today included a 20 oz root beer, and a 12 oz serving of strawberry lemonade. There was no other food or drink today.

I have no idea what my sugars were, as I completely forgot to address those.

Exercise was not the best, but I took my dog out to potty a couple of times, changed baby diapers 3x (with this child, it's a wrestling match), did active play with the baby 2x.

There it is.

Today, RIGHT NOW, is where change happens. RIGHT NOW.

Checking in...Today did not go very well. My 71 year old father passed away today. I have only consumed 1/2 my calories today. I only drank 2 glasses of water. I did not exercise which now make 2 days in a row. I did track my food. But I hope I stick with this even through my grief because I really don't care at the moment which seems to be my problem. When crises happens I don't take care of myself. I know that has to change.

I was already, and am continuing to, log everything I eat and follow an eating plan put together with a nutritionist. I already was, and continue to, exercise about 400 minutes a week. So week 1 isn't too much of a challenge right now. Can I just move on to the next week?

My eating may not be the best now but I have stopped stressing and not wanting food all the time. I will get my nutrition under control because I won't stress about it. I tend to eat a lot when I am stressed so staying calm and doing things that keep my hands and brain busy help keep my mind off food.

Ok, 4:22 a.m. here. I have done nothing yet, but when I wake up from this next sleep, I will take my blood sugar and then do the exercise prescribed for 3x/wk.

I'm not sure what else I need to add here. I also plan to drink 2L of water tomorrow and get the yuck out of my system.

Thanks for your patience while I learn the ropes!

I just joined SP a few days ago and am finally doing my first check in for this group. Baby steps I suppose. I have been trying new recipes this week and have been pleased. The smoothie I made this morning made with yogurt, orange juice, fruit and 22 grams of whey protein powder was delicious. I accompanied that with a slice of Ezekiel sprouted grain and a smidge of butter. I have been faithful to exercise daily so far. My goal is to move alot more in my day. So now I am off to try a new recipe I found on SP that is a Quinoa, black beans and yam casserole. I hope to get to know you all more through this 8 week journey. Blessings to you all :)

Week 1 Day 4
Last night after I posted ended up eating a very large supper and today don't want to eat but need to eat something so I can take my meds. I have decided to stop tracking food on tracker and just journal what I have eaten to see if that will help me keep my food under control. It seems that the more I use the tracker the more I crave food. Maybe if I just concentrate on eating when I am hungry and writing down what I eat I won't be craving so much nor so often.

Week 1 day 1. I have just been diagnosed with mild diabetes and want to nip it in the bud before it gets serious. I have set my goals, and have plotted my swimming time around the YMCA's holiday schedule. What a time of year to start weight loss and cutting down on sugar!!!

Just started today. I have written goals on start page and have steps set up to help me reach those goals. I am now trying to organize my days to fit everything I need to do into my daily schedule. Monday through Wednesdays are the hardest because I have a lot of things going on. I have 2 daughters to get to work on different sides of town and 3 grandchildren to get to different schools and pick up from school and work. Once school is out for Christmas things will ease some. My daughters also live on different sides of town. Fortunately the daughter I take to work 1st works on side of town where the 2nd daughter lives. I send 1 and a half hours each morning going back and forth across town.

Yesterday was a travel day, but I did get over 8,000 steps (although they weren't aerobic as such). Today I got in over 10,000 steps including 48 minutes of aerobic contiguously active minutes.

I've been trying to space out my carbs for the last few days. I try to let a few hours go by after lunch before I'll eat half a banana as a snack, and it seems to help keep from getting too hungry.

I am starting day 1 week 1 today. I want to eventually lose 100 lbs. I have a good start on exercise as I do water aerobics 3-5 days a week, but have not been watching what I eat well at all. I had a high blood glucose of 179 this morning which I have to correct quickly. That changes now!

week 1: day one and two. I started yesterday, but didn't get around to posting here. I have stayed on track both days. I am taking a new med and having to run to the bathroom all hours night and day. I decided to see if I would have a drop in weight after all the hallway exercise and I was down four pounds this morning....lol

My name is Jacob and I live on a farm in the Lake of the Ozarks area of Missouri, I'm 73 years old, I've had cancer, 2 heart attacks, 3 stents, a stroke, an artificial hip, diabetes, arthritis, it seems like I better do something about this extra 100+ pounds I'm carrying around ... I've been with SparkPeople 5 days now and have been pretty faithful in staying within or under 1500 calories a day ... My mom was the youngest of 13 kids, all 13 lived into their 90's and 100's, so it looks like I've got a few more years left, it would be easier if I was at a normal weight ... Plus, I've got 3 kids and 10 grandchildren to love ...
Obesity is a surplus gone to waist ... Definition of a surpus is: more than what is needed ...
It;s been hard to excersize, so I ordered a Spark Tracker ...

Met all my goals yesterday. Exercised, ate from the menus provided for me by Spark. Had my lowest bg in a long while (134g) and had the highest after supper (322g). I hate this disease and the feeling of having so little real control. My lifeline is SP and I'm holding tight.

Did day 2 office workout. still quite a challenge. emoticon Tried cooking spinach for dinner to increase folate, etc. guess what? That nutritional value wasn't available. I checked on-line. SO not helpful. Nutritional value on-line matched the scant (aka required) info on the package. Not posting recipe yet as it needs some work. But if anyone has DEER to cook I made a kick butt Deer Stew from raw Deer. emoticon

It's harder to stay away from carbs than I thought...but at least they are not crap carbs.

I guess I am starting here. My name is Holly and I have type 2 diabetes. I want to become healthier. I check my fbs twice a day and I am trying to get into the habit of water intake and exercise. My overall goal is to lose about 96 pounds. I am a student going for my Bachelor's degree for Diagnostic Ultrasound. Thank you for checking my status and hopefully I can meet some new people with the same interests.

Who's better than you? Nobody!! Why have hate in your household when there is so much hate in the world already!! I am wonderfully made!!

Day 2 since starting the Diabetes challenge but wk 2 back on SP.
Did the wk 1 strength workout yesterday--no weight loss, but felt thinner. I have found that soreness or a strenuous workout makes me heavier the next day... so I wait till I get a 3 day aggregate idea before getting pissed off for working so hard for nothing.

So far, so good. I rode my bike to Starbucks this morning so that I can work somewhere other than my own home (I am an author and poet). Had breakfast here before starting work. Of course, I have spent an hour checking email, logging food and workout, checking FB-- so have not yet started work. LOL! About to finally dig in and face the blank page. One of the problems with working as an author is that the work is really easy to avoid. An even bigger problem for me is that it is easy to turn into a complete recluse. One of my starting goals for SP is to get out of the house daily. Have managed it every day so far. So yay! That, in and of itself, goes a long way in improving my health and fitness level, not to mention my mental outlook.

And now to work!

Well, I set my goals and tracked my food, but I never got to the exercise part. I hope to start that up today but since my office is in a little tiny space, I will probably just walk on the treadmill. I hope this next week goes better.

I tried to check in yesterday but had trouble logging into SP. Gave up and went to bed. So consider this checking in for both. Yesterday's exercise was a short bike ride. Today's was strength training. I've managed to get out of house each day since starting SP, even when not feeling terribly well. Today's outing will just be some time spent in the yard because I am hosting two biog meetings in my home today and there is no time to go anywhere before, between, or after. Food is going okay. Veggie pasta sauce cooking in crock pot as we type.

I missed checking in yesterday because I got hives and some of them got infected and then my leg swelled up and hurts so have been laying down with leg elevated and missed being online at all. TMI? Maybe. But I'm feeling somewhat better and am well enough at least to post and log nutrition and fitness. I did manage to exercise today! Yay!

Ok so I got up early and did strength training before the sun was even up. Then I had a healthy breakfast and got a crock pot full of veggie soup started for tonight's dinner. Lunch will be a winter squash roasted with pecans. There will be snacks too but I have not planned them yet. We have a lot of healthy snacks on hand, so all should be well.

I just rejoined SP after many years away. By "just," I mean less than half an hour ago, so I am just setting up my goals and plan now. Tomorrow will be the first day I take actions (beyond joining SP and exploring the website) toward achieving my goal of weighing under 300 pounds for the first time in decades.

I don't know if I'm in the right place either but I'm checking in with a FBS of 162, It's been good lately but I just developed a sore throat and I know it goes up with illness. Sorry about the duplicate. I must have hit the button twice.

Wk 1, Day 4. FBS - 108.

Johal52, I too am pre-diabetic. Tried the SP Food Plan and found it was way too much food for me on the first day. I tend to eat smaller amounts but more often, like a grazer. I had been on a wheat free plan and it kept my appetite in check but after following the SP plan for 2 days, I was ravenously hungry and ate way too many carbs. I am going to start wheat free again today but increase my carbs slightly. I was cutting my carbs too much and that made me feel tired and weak. But it did bring down my BS and also my BP way down.

So depending on how your body works, you may like the SP Diabetic plan. It does give you a lot of options on food. Good Luck!

This is Day One. The doc diagnosed me pre diabetic again. I had been okay at last year's annual but this year I knew that I have been eating badly and haven't been feeling great. So I am going to kick this sugar habit. Does anyone know whether the SparkPeople Diabetes Nutrition Plan is a good one?

Week 1, Day 1. Been on low carb past 2 weeks. FBS has been in high 80's but felt terrible. Dr said due to high cholesterol need to go high fiber and low fat. Yesterday ate way more carbs but felt better. F B S today is 108. Am not on meds.

Week 1 - FBS

10/15 - 164
10/16 - 128
10/17 - 106 Wow! Tracking does work.
10/18 - 134 This is more like my normal. Anywhere 135 or below. I'll take it. Having trouble getting exercise in. Moving more but need to do more cardio and strength training. Need to work on these areas.
10/19 - 131
10/20 - 137
10/21 - 129 End of Week 1 of Diabetes 8 week Weight Loss Challenge.

Tracked food 4 out of 7 days. Had trouble getting exercise in. I do well with exercise, however, I find it hard to get motivated into doing it. I go to an exercise class on Tuesdays and Thursdays which last 45 minutes each. I also forgot to journal. Will do better Week 2.

Week One Day 6 (10/13)

Fasting BS was good this morning. Ate right at my carb limit yesterday and paid for it with high blood sugars and lots of gas. I'm beginning to think my body doesn't tolerate grains very well at all. My weight was up this morning too. I was very low energy this weekend.

week one day 3. So far I have met all my goals. My blood sugar readings seem to be going down for the first time since I started this diabetes thing 3 months ago. My blood sugar this morning was 134. Usually it is 150/160 range. So I think things might be on the upside. We'll see. Good luck to you all.

I have tracked my food all week but only started exercise today. I love to walk but have hurt my foot and so I want to check out Spark yoga videos and ride my bike as my foot heals. So appreciate all of you. My A1C numbers continue to drop so I am hoping to be off meds within the year. We can do this.

Week 1, Day 7. Well, I didn't do so well with completing three strength training sessions this week, but I did get to the Y today to meet with a personal trainer to find out how to use all the strength training equipment. What a workout! Think I'm going to like it though once I get into the habit. It's the getting started each time that is the hardest. emoticon

Week 1, Day 6. Got my Spark Activity Tracker yesterday and it motivated me to do an extra 5 minutes on the treadmill! I think it will be easier now for me to challenge myself when I have real numbers and not just guessing.

Week 1, Day 5. Well, my doctor did put me on a med to help stabilize my blood sugars. Hoping this is only a temporary thing and that when more weight comes off the meds can go away.

Week 1 Day 3 for me - I'm still holding off on exercise until I see my nurse practitioner tomorrow, but the sleep, tracking my food and getting in my water are on track (and I'm keeping the caffeine to one cup of coffee in the morning, which is FAR better than I was doing at school)! I love the new nutrition tracker that breaks things down better in terms of calories, carbs, etc. Color me impressed. :)

Week 1, Day 4. I'm worried I will be put on medicine when I go see the doctor today. My blood sugars don't seem to be controlled with just diet. We'll see.

Week 1, Day 2. Didn't do any exercise today, but did stick to my calorie and carb intake.
