Week 1, Day 5 - I have done the exercising, but not the strength videos. I've been tracking my nutrition pretty successfully this week.

Checking in - I have been within my nutritional ranges for the last three days. I'm having some trouble getting protein in, and oddly enough, fat. I always though fats were always the ones that I was going over on.

I set my non-weight goals quite some time ago - 2011 - and they've stayed the same, but right now, I want to focus on losing 10% of my body weight in the next 6 months (24 pounds)

Its been good to be on this challenge. I have managed to exercise everyday since I started on Wednesday except for Friday. (made that my day off). Today I had a good workout on my bike with some serious high intensity intervals in there. Blood sugar is 7.3 and blood pressure was 110/76. Now the waist line needs to go down. :) fight on people...we are worth it! So are our families. :)

I love sweet tea also, but gave up the real stuff. I live outside Portland, Oregon and we have a brand that's local that makes sugarfree blueberry tea and sugarfree sweet tea. That stuff is so good I can't buy it often because I'll drink a half gallon in 2 hours.

I was reading somewhere about trying heavy whipping cream and splenda, so that's what I'm going for this weekend.

Have a lovely weekend. My goal is to log in each day as I usually disappear from SP on the weekends. Staying connected is so important.

I totally understand not wanting to give up coffee!!!
My "can't give up" is southern sweet tea!! I know it would be best for me to give it up, but I see it as one of God's blessings while living on this earth!
But today, I did find some "sweet tea" mio type water additive. I plan to at least try it!! I don't do chemicals much, but it may help!!

Also, have you tried enjoying your creamer with some type of fiber to help mediate the blood sugar spike? Sometimes, just combining foods can make a difference in how our body handles carbs.

Keep pressing on!!

Thanks! I've had to balance work, stress and activity, and those five minute walks help. I just discovered today that my coffee creamer that has 1 carb makes my blood sugar jump. I'm going to do more testing this weekend.

I don't want to give up coffee!! emoticon

Great plan on the 5 minute walks!!
I just read on Leslie Sansone's page that she classifies 5 minutes of walking as 500 steps!!

Hi Everyone,

Week One, Day One

So far, so good! I got my exercise in and my food has been on plan. I woke up with a high BS (178), but was down to 114 this afternoon. I really want to get control of it

Tonight I'll get a bit more walking in and we'll see what tomorrow brings. I work in a fairly stressful sales office, but I've put together a little routine and informed everyone about it. I take very small breaks during the day and walk. Three sets of five minutes. It brings my blood sugar down if its high and it helps my stress level. Then I do something more later, but those little five minute walks are precious to me.

Everyone have a lovely evening!

Today is the last day of Week 1 for me, I hope. I finished all the action steps on the 4th day & really wanted to get started in week 2. I was never told if or how I could do that, so I kind of just stayed away from this team (inadvertently). I was busy contributing to other teams I'm on.

I am really looking forward to Week 2.

I still don't have my eating under control. I was out of control for many months & it has been a challenge to "reign" my appetite back in!
I am doing much better on the fitness end of things. I know that won't be enough to make a long term difference. But right now, if I could just see the scale move SLOWLY in the down direction, I think I would be thrilled!!

Off to continue my 10 minutes a day movement!!

Week 1 Day 4

I had a great day exercising today!! I planted veggies in the garden in the morning. Then, after a short walk, hubby & I decided to set up a volleyball net in the backyard. We had a BLAST teaching our boys (aged 12 & 10) to play! A very good exercise to raise your heartrate!!

Food today was not so great. Hubby swept me away for a surprise breakfast at Chick Fil A. I ate a little bit of everything! I thought about not logging my food today. But, after gardening & eating a sensible lunch, I decided to log. I did OK til dinner - pizza, wings & cheesy bread. Oh well. I stayed within range 2 out of 4 days. I will just keep working on it!

Week 1 Day 3
I did a 19 minute walk with Leslie Sansone. I also did some body weight exercises from the Walk About Challenge.
Food has been good so far today. Hubby & I are planning a date tonight. I already know what I am going to order. Now, to have the will power to turn down the yummy biscuits!!
Step count was over 5000 yesterday!! Not sure of I will get to that today, but I know I will beat my goal of 3000.

Week 1 Day 2
I am tracking my food, estimating, not obsessively measuring like I used to (hopefully I will later because that really seemed to help me).
I did a 19 min Walk Away the Pounds walk this morning & walked around Wal Mart & the library to up my step count. I misses my goal yesterday by 90 steps. Today, I am already at 144% of my daily goal!! emoticon
I also did half of the SP resistance band workout. I only did the upper body part. Still trying to be careful after abdominal surgery. I know not to do core work. I am afraid that lower body work will engage my core & possibly pop stitches, so I will not do that til after my next dr appt.
Have a blessed day!

Week 1 Day 1

I started tracking my food for the first time in a long time. I will go over my goal for today, but at least I tracked!! Also, I did give some of my lunch to my son. One of my "non-trackable" goals for this challenge is to leave a bite or two (or more) each time I eat (at least meals, maybe not snacks)

Looking forward to Day 2!!

Visit with Diabetes instructor went well. She said I'm doing well, except, one day I went way over on my FBS. Found out eating watermelon of muskmelon really knocks the FBS off. Lesson learned.

I'm losing about 1-2 pounds per week. I've lost 4 so far, and after I get into exercising, I hope it will decrease at a higher rate. She looked at my ear, and no, I didn't lose my hearing! It was just lots and lots of wax. I see the podiatrist tomorrow, and I am excited about that. So, all in all, I think I'm doing okay.

Checking in. In think I'm still on Week 1, but not sure. My FBS this morning was 122, and before dinner it's 111. I am learning, one step at a time. I still need to get to the Y for some water exercise. That's my next goal, but this week, I see my Diab. Doc on Monday, and a Podiatrist on Tuesday. I am having the most wonderful Spinach Salad that I make at home. In fact, I'll share it now:
Simon & Seafort's Spinach Salad (from Copy Kat recipe site) :
3 hard-boiled eggs
1 1/2 tsp. yellow mustard
3 Tbsp. apple cider vinegar
3 Tbsp. sugar or it's equivalent
16 oz. fresh spinach - baby spinach, or it using regular, be sure to tear it into pieces
4 strips bacon
2 green onions, thinly sliced
Slivered almonds
Fresh mushrooms, sliced

Cook bacon until crisp. ;Drain, reserving 1-2 Tbsp. grease. Crumble bacon and set aside. Separate egg whites from yolks. Mash yolks in a small bowl with the tines of a fork, then add mustard, vinegar and sugar. Mix well and set aside. (This is your dressing.)

Chop egg whites. Set aside. Cut or tear spinach into bowl. Toss with egg yolk dressing. Add bacon grease and toss again. Top with egg whites, almonds, onions and bacon.

Serve immediately. Delicious! emoticon

Mostly done with Week 1. Still have to learn what I have to do to earn the "prize" or whatever the term is for completion of the week. I feel like I am so much more in control now. I did slide by eating some candy tonight, but since that's my first slip this week, that is major for me. We'll see what the blood test shows in the morning! Take care everyone! My bed is calling me, and since I have to make it before I can sleep in it, I'm headed that way. I know I need to focus more, though, on exercising.

Week 1, Day 1

My FBS this morning was 182 mg/dL. I have started writing down everything I eat for the day/week. I have cut out sodas from my diet and have been drinking water with lemon and unsweet tea occasionally. I also plan to start exercising at a moderate pace since I have been sedentary for a long time.

Thanks Wendy. It seems to make it possible. I also blog my results.

I actually tracked my food yesterday and did really well until dinner. I ate too much bread with butter and that put me 200 calories over. I will do much better today.

That's a good goal to have - counting your steps on a weekly basis, rather than daily. Think I will add this to my regimen.

Week 1 Day 2

I checked in all my meals for day 1. I didn't start any workouts in day 1 because it was kind of late when I joined. I will do at least 10 minutes today. I check my glucose this morning, it was 223. I am off to a great start today! emoticon

Saner. I have a suspicion the spike yesterday had more to do with the pH level of my hands at the time. Have to be careful about hand-washing before testing.
