Week 1 Day 3

I enjoy exercising with my friend and have no problem with this. My eating still needs some cleaning up but is better than it was. I am watching my carbs and that seems to help with the sugar cravings.

Hope everyone has a great fun filled day. emoticon

Just starting today. Had a physical last week and my A1c was 8.5. No surprise. I have been eating the "Eat to Live' diet plan since August. I have lost 16 pounds. Doctor started me on Farxiga. I have lost 7 more pounds since Thursday! Blood sugar was 100 this morning. I'm on my way. Need to loose 75 pounds!

Week one is starting off well with a morning sugar of 130. I've tracked breakfast and exercised for 15 minutes with plans of a 30 minute cardio today.

Right on track today... breakfast, lunch, snack #1... Lunches & snacks are fixed and packed for the week except for the pork tenderloin sandwiches. I'm waiting for that to thaw. emoticon
Getting ready to go out for a quick mile walk/run. I haven't run since June, so I'm hoping I don't kill myself in the process. emoticon

I see several posts indicating newbies at least I'm not the only just beginning when some are on week 2. I have been experimenting with foods and have learned I am currently unable to eat the amount of whole grains recommended without a significant rise in my blood sugars. While giving away the foods that create this problem does get them out of temptation it does not replace the money spent when I bought them.

So for the rest of September the only grains on my plate are those already in something else - can't throw everything out. October will bring me new opportunities to see what my body will allow, AHA guidelines are a good start but in health like many other things one size does not fit all.

I will be starting on Sunday this week (because I have to go to the grocery store tomorrow). I am pre-diabetic, but my husband has type 2 diabetes. I want to get this taken care of BEFORE I cross the type 2 line.

Way to go everyone - congrats! Welcome 2009GETINLINE!

I did accomplish my 10 goals for today. I'm striving for doing those 10 daily goals for the next 7 days. This is all new to me too ~ it's a ton to learn, all I can do is practice, practice, practice. Progression not perfection ~ progression is attainable and perfection is not.

Blessings, T

Hi Everyone,

Tryinghard54 ~ it would be good if you could figure out what lead to getting off track so you can avoid repeating it. Celebrate - 11 days!!! I read where someone had posted.... when we get off track (not if - we all will), get back on track as fast as possible. When the car has a flat, get out and fix it then continue driving forward.

WK 1 DAY 2 FBG 173 That's down from yesterdays 196 but no where near where it should be. I'm striving to accomplish my 10 daily goals again today.

Have a great day, T

WK 1 DAY 1 FBG 196 Yes that is my "fasting" blood glucose reading this morning. I've gotten the Spark Food tracking set up - it's the Diabetes Nutrition Plan, Calorie Range 1220-1570, Carb Range 157-196. My daily goals are to be in those ranges, walk on treadmill (I can do 15 min max), wt lift, have 8+ glasses of water, and get everything tracked.

Started challenge Sunday, but forgot to check in. Kinda disturbing that my numbers are going UP!?!

I read an article in the magazine "Diabetes Self-Management" re: blood glucose self-monitoring, and one suggestion was for Burst Testing. Essentially you test before and after every meal and bedtime for three days to get a full picture of what your blood sugar is doing and how it's reacting to foods and activity.

The article recommended a Burst Testing log sheet at https://www.accu-chek.com/us/data-manageme
nt/360-view-printable-tool.html

I'm going to give it a try starting today. If nothing else it will keep me mindful. I'll check back in with what I learn after three days.

Committed to Healthy Living, not perfection, one day at a time.

I'm brand new to this challenge. My AC1 was measured at 5.6 - pre diabetes. I am not on medication so I'm trying to make corrections before I progress further into type II diabetes. I am about 50 pounds overweight and do not exercise like I should - So here are my goals.

At the end of this 8 weeks I'd like to have lost 15 pounds and be walking 10,000 or more steps per day. I would also like to have a better understanding of how to put together menus that follow the best diabetic and health practices.

So off I go to start tracking.....

I missed posting yesterday, but I'm checking in today. I did remember to track my food though. Yesterday was busy, and our 6 month old pup hurt his leg, so the evening was spent playing nurse.

Day three on SP, and I feel great, love this site and the people I have found so far. We pulled out the dehydrator yesterday. Right now I'm making jerky, but this weekend we plan to stop at the farmer's market to pick up some fruits and veggies to make better snacks to keep around the house.

Happy Monday, I hope everyone's week is fantastic!

Checkin in! Hi! Hope everyone is having success with their goals today. I'm wired today...do feel more energetic since cutting out refined foods -even just the last 4 days. Now....to get my body to burn off that energy.

Yes, It does add challenges to our lives without phone and internet, for sure! I did not sleep enough last night. I ate the same breakfast as yesterday, but see my blood sugar is about 50 points higher. I will aim for 8 hrs. tonight. I hope everyone can get outside today. Make a happy saturday!

Started this week. Yesterday was a 11 hour work day, finishing with a potluck, so really tried to plan ahead and did track it all. But....then had some more mac n cheese at about 1am. So, I did go and track that too.Past the lips - Pass the pen. I will keep myself accountable. All in all, wasn't too bad. I'm starting. Happy weekend all! It has stopped raining, so will get outside today! Trying for 5-10 minutes with the dog. Walking/standing is pain right now, but it won't kill me.

day 3 cardio and wts = done!

i've noticed when i stay within carb range, my total calories are on the low end and sometimes under range by around 200 calories and i'm not hungry. i believe eating nutriously keeps me satiated so i'm not going to force myself to eat just to stay 'within' range. I'm going to listen to my body and eat when i'm hungry and stop when I'm full. keep going peeps!

Today is Day 1 of week 1 for me and I started the day off with the SparkPeople 9 minute lower body sculpt. My legs are pretty tired. I am not a big breakfast eater but I did have a slice of peanut butter toast this morning. I never drink water so I want to start slow and move up from there. My goal today is to drink 2 glasses of water (minimum).

I hope everyone's day is blessed! We can do this!

I came back yesterday to SparkPeople. My A1C numbers are still not low enough. I am back to tracking what I eat each day and ensure my carbs are kept within the guidelines the nutrition provided to me.

Readings yesterday were great until the evening. I am going to have to see what I can do different today to keep the numbers low throughout the day.

Hello,

This is Week 1 and Day 1 for me. Dang, used up 43 grams of carbs just on breakfast! Guess I'll be watching what I eat in carbs for the rest of the day and not either eat or eat so much of the cereal I had this morning.

I had an outpatient procedure today & went under anesthesia. I had 4 injections in my spine. I am a bit sore. They told me the shots will increase my Blood sugar so I better watch it. However, I was not allowed to eat after midnight so when I woke up, I was hungry. I wanted a cheat meal & indulged in a cheeseburger and fries. The fries were almost as many calories as the burger! Ack! I gotta get right back on track tomorrow!

Today was a good day. Talk a nice walk, including up the hill out of our neighborhood. Went to the pool and jogged for 20 minutes. It is a neighborhood pool and not ideal for swimming laps; it is a weird shape (I wonder if they do that to discourage lap swimming?) I have a membership to a gym with a swimming pool and I use that for swimming laps. It was such a nice day today, though, I wanted to be outside. Right now, the only place I can jog is in the pool, as the water supports my joints and is much easier on my knees. I am hopeful that as I lose weight, I will be able to jog on the treadmill or the high school track.

I was diagnosed two days ago with type 2 diabetes. I have been checking my sugars in morning, after each meal and before bed like my doctor has asked me to do. I will continue with that and watching what i eat and tracking through sparks. I have to make these changes and take back control of my life. Thanks for the 8 week challenge opportunity and support.

Hi ladies! emoticon

Yesterday went well. By not eating junk, or having DD coffee coolatas, (which would have been a total of 4 that I didn't have), I've lost 2 lbs since Monday. I did go to DD and swapped over to an iced coffee with sweet and low. I was ok with that. It wasn't as bad as I figured it would be, and it was much cheaper....

Have a good day!

I had a crazy day yesterday so I didn't get my sugar tested. This morning before breakfast, it was 148. I want to keep it down because my A1C is above 7 and I don't want it to be there. I was wondering, if there is anyone else who feels hungry a lot even with eating our carb snacks. Should I add a protein to it? Any suggestions would be helpful.

I thought today went well. No simple carbs, and no sugar, that I am aware of.. But I didn't have a candy bar on my break at work, I grabbed a banana instead. Then I hear that you are not suppose to eat a whole banana. Isn't it better than a candy bar? I tracked all I ate today, and stayed in all of my ranges. I haven't worked out today. I'm tuckered out...

Am I the only person on week 1? I have to figure I am, since I am the only one posting. I'm really lonely. emoticon

Today went well. I've had plenty to eat. I made a plain greek yogurt and frozen Maine blueberry parfait with some regular granola, and I've been picking on that when I got hungry. My intention was to have them for breakfast, but I had to try it. I do have one made up for breakfast tomorrow. It is really good. I am a sweets eater, and I've made it all day without any cookies or such. This morning, the cookies and white bread found their way to the trash. I swapped them out with whole wheat bread and the fixins for the parfaits.

I've been putting off cleaning out the garage. I worked out there for about 2 hours this morning. I made a good dent in it. And got a good workout...

I just found out today that I am diabetic. Tomorrow is my Day 1. I'm not ordered to take my readings for now, so I am "winging it" till my next appointment the 21st of next month. I'm hoping to see a good change for that visit. My A1C was 14. I show no outwards signs of being diabetic. I asked how that is, because when my DH found out he was, he was borderline comatose. My doc said that I've probably had it for so long, I'm just use to feeling terrible, and don't realize how terrible I really feel..

Not a good day nutrition wise, but there is always tomorrow. I have still lost 3 pounds since 7/21/14

Happy just to have my fasting level below 200 for the last few days! I just came back to SparkPeople on 7/22/14 after 4 yrs away. My A1C was 11.7% a week ago and my Dr added glypizide, along with my Metformin. I lost 3 pounds this week and hope to have A1C much lower by next check! emoticon
