Hi! Trying to figure out what l am supposed to do for this challenge.
Found the info about excercise, tracking, etc. But not sure how to post what l'm doing and where all on the "Team" l should post and how often. I find the info a bit vague on how to get credit for our efforts.

emoticon Hello everyone. I am starting to take this diabetes more seriously. I was OK with taking pills but when started on insulin I knew it was time for a change. Also my niece has lost her foot as a result of her diabetes. I don't want that to happen to me so I must start taking better care of myself. I have had my wake up calls. Today stayed in range for calories and carbs didn't get much walking in but was busy working on organizing my kitchen and pantry. Hope everyone is off to a good start. emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

Hang in there Mazie. I think it's better to know these things so you can do something about it. You've come to a very good place for help. I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers.

Well, I'm on day 4. The doctor upped my meds to see if that would help to get my numbers down. So far, one day has been within range. This might take awhile.

I am starting this challenge (day 4 on the challenge). I am a long term diabetic (since 2005) I have always been considered "brittle" because of blood sugar woes. I just started a new med, my fasting blood sugar today was 190 which is an improvement over the 300+ I have had.

My goals for this week are:
4-20z water daily
Monitor my food and keep a food chart
Get some exercise time in (pool and recumbent)
Plan a week's worth of menus

I seem like all I do is: plan eating, eat, exercise, drink water, (pee,) and plan eating. It fills my whole day! Now after being on this since Fri the 13 of May (I hope that is not an omen) one week of being totally consumed with my new diagnosis and my new reality I hope things will get simpler and free up more time so I can get back to my life. Albeit a changed life.

Trying to cut back on sugar. I always have problems with Easter. I've been having fresh fruit for dessert and checking labels for low sugar treats. I don't like artificial sweeteners so when I bake I try to cut back on the sugar as much as I can without affecting the end result and I look for recipes where I can use sweeteners like honey, etc. because they're sweeter than sugar so you can use less.

Just signed up to take the challenge. I take medicine for diabetes (tablet 2 X's a day) I am seriously overweight and have quite a few medical problems. All because I have failed to take care of myself. Definitely ready for a change emoticon !

Week 1 Day 2 Had an 88 FBS this morning. That's really rare, and a bit too low. Guess I didn't enough carbs yesterday, although I thought I'd had enough. I did get over 2 hours of exercise though and over 10,000 steps (very first time for that!) and I even had nonfat yogurt and cereal for a bedtime snack. I finally got my FBS down to a range between 100 - 118, but it really drops when I get a lot of exercise.

Checking in on my first day. I do not do blood sugar testing, although I may check into a monitor to start.

Edited to Add: I am actually considered pre-diabetic, so am under less restriction, but I still really need to get my weight down.

Hi everyone, I have had type 2 for over ten years now and I think it is time to start acting like one. I never really changed anything in my lifestyle after I was diagnosed, and I know I have a lot to learn.
This is day 1 and I am feeling optimistic...and a little excited. emoticon

I had a really bizarre dream about a strange medical team, my eating and diabetes last night. I'm not a big fan of dream study, but this dream stayed with me when I woke and it was all to true. I've been very lax in what I know I need to be doing. So Here I am starting the 8-week challenge again.

Wk 1, day 4
60 min walk, 4 min stretch - - felt good!
sugars alarmed me -- I thought I was under control - 174 average last week -- lower this morning. I don't understand: I seem to be much more sensitive to carbs now than before I lost all that weight.

I met my weekly goals. I ate vegetables every day and I stayed within my recommended calorie range. I am following the Diabetes Meal Plan. However, sodium still is an issue. I am drinking more water though to hopefully flush some of that out of my system. I did manage to meet Week 1's assignment for exercise. I now look forward to seeing what Week 2 will have us do.

Started 1/9. My goal today was to purchase fruit for work and at home. Accomplished!

I'm only light years away from my goal, or so it seems. After all we're not mapping the secrets of the universe.

emoticon I am coming off of a prolonged illness so my sleep has really been messed up. So, 'first things first' I really focused last night on getting a better night's sleep. I awoke feeling rested but I also awoke around 3 p.m. It is bright and sunny so I am sitting next to a window and enjoying the sun. After I finish here I am going to 'time myself' for the exercise limits that are part of this first week's challenge. So, I am doing both the strength and the cardio on Tues, Thurs and Sat of this coming week. I have been tracking all of my food for 8 days and plan to continue to do that. Now, to get this exercise in and fulfill the week 1 challenge action plan.

Good luck all Pam emoticon

This is Day 1 of Week 1. I tracked all of my food all of last week for starters and I exercised a few times (still recovering from a bad virus). I added this challenge to get me more stoked and keep me focused.

Good luck everyone! emoticon

Week 1 Day 4

Managed to stay in range for calories, Got the entire apartment cleaned up and did my nightly workout before bed.

I need to work on getting the meals and snacks better spread out and fitting in more of a work out. I do alright on cardio but need to focus on toning it up. I noticed a lot more popping after i work out but I'm not sure if its good or bad. there is no pain but my knees and lower back tend to pop.

Still need to squeeze in my work out for today but I did keep my logs and been constantly drinking water.

Week 1 Day 2

Hit a rough patch early on. had a surprise double shift when I went in to work yesterday and am exhausted and lacking motivation to be active before I go back tonight. Slowly but surly I am understanding the trackers and seeing how out of balance my present life style is.

Drank 8 glasses of water
made a schedule for the next 8 weeks of work outs.
the best work out i found was a nightly stretch and relaxation work out that burns a few extra calories and helps to relax before bed.
Walking to and from work

I am restarting the challenge. I have been doing the steps, but got sidetracked and want to start over.
Not sure of sugar level - out of test strips. No meds, so its probably high. A1C over 3 months ago was 9.6 and I haven't had meds since. As soon as I get paid, will get it all back.

Weight this morning - 191 lbs (down from 222).

Week 1 Day 1 300 lb

I am now back where I started. I lost 15 lbs pretty quickly and life got in the way and I gained 13 lbs back but I never gave up on SP. I recorded all calories and weight no matter what. I finally decided that it was time I got my enthuiasim back and I have lost the 15 lbs again. So now it's onward and downward.

The Diabetes Clinic my Dr. sent me to gave me a brand new meter, but there were only enough test strips for 1 week. I am waiting for my new order of test strips to comes in the mail. I took my blood sugars everyday for a week. When I get the strips, my Dr. wants me to do fasting Blood Sugars every morning . I am making the commitment to do that.

I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes in 2006 after I had a heart attack. They believe that the diabetes is what caused the heart attack. I use Metformin to control my diabetes. My last A1C was 5.8. My blood sugars mostly stay between 70 and 130 so doctor is pleased but my eating habits are terrible. I really need to get a good healthy eating plan so I will eat more healthy. I also need to start an exercise program that will help my heart as it only functions at about
20 % capacity instead of the 80-90% everyone else functions at. I like the Diabetes workout plans and will incorporate them into my day to increase fitness.

Not sure which week I am in but know that it is helping me to be more aware. Check my FBS most mornings and try to make better food choices
Would recommend to others.

Week 1 day 1 my latest a1c was 6.3 but doctors say i am still diabetic because numbers are so high and diabetes is already affecting my kidneys. I just saw this challenge and got on board instantly because i want to reverse diabetes and kidney issues with a healthy lifestyle. emoticon
