scale was good to me today - what an encouragement - also got my first 3.5mile bike ride in - great way to start the day. Headed to grocery store - now learning to read labels for Carbs - frustrating!! BUT the day is GORGEOUS!!

New to challenge and quite unsure how this goes, but here's my deal:

I was diagnosed diabetic near the end of Feb. this year. Not pre-diabetic, but full on diabetic, though my numbers were just over the threshold. Scared silly, I found Spark people almost immediately,and so far I've lost 30 lbs AND now test as pre-diabetic. I'm aware that I need to continue to say that I'm diabetic--it's not cured, it's managed.

My next goal is to test "normal" (and yes, I do know that I will still have to be very careful even if I get that result.) To that end, I'm watching carbs and exercising. I have never tested my fasting blood sugar, just rely on the 3 month check ups with my Dr. I'm not sure why I wasn't told to do this, but it doesn't matter now, I'm on the right path, but this is why I won't be posting my FBS--I have no idea what it is.

My next checkup is in about 2 months, so I'm hoping this challenge will get me into the "normal" range, the timing is right.

I'm also hoping to learn a lot, and wish everyone well on their own journeys towards "normal."

Tuesday the 5th was a little off for me. I worked late then only got a few hours sleep before off to watch the grandkids. I forgot to check my FBS in the morning which really would not of been a real FBS since I ate late and only slept a few hours. When I got home I slept most of the day away so therefore did not eat right. On the brighter side I did get my exercise in today with a little added when I played with the kids.

Hello everyone
6 months ago I had lost 16 pounds and my FBS was between 116-138. That is when I tracked everything that I was eating and exercising daily. Somewhere along the line I lost myself and stopped tracking my daily intake and exercising. Though I have not gained any weight back, my FBS spiked to the 170s. This may still be better then what it was before in the 200s but still I realized how important it is to stay on tract and to create goals.
I have been back on track the past 3 days and today my FBS was 126. That there just showed me that exercising and eating right is very important to a healthier life.

emoticon Hello everyone. I am starting to take this diabetes more seriously. I was OK with taking pills but when started on insulin I knew it was time for a change. Also my niece has lost her foot as a result of her diabetes. I don't want that to happen to me so I must start taking better care of myself. I have had my wake up calls. Today stayed in range for calories and carbs didn't get much walking in but was busy working on organizing my kitchen and pantry. I am starting this challenge (day 4 on the challenge). I am a long term diabetic (since 2005) I have always been considered "brittle" because of blood sugar woes. I just started a new med, my fasting blood sugar today was 190 which is an improvement over the 300+ I have had.

My goals for this week are:

Week 1 Day 1...last week had high fasting blood glucose and doctor diagnosed me with diabetes. I have been working on walking and eating better. I hope that this challenge will help, too!

I seem like all I do is: plan eating, eat, exercise, drink water, (pee,) and plan eating. It fills my whole day! Now after being on this since Fri the 13 of May (I hope that is not an omen) one week of being totally consumed with my new diagnosis and my new reality I hope things will get simpler and free up more time so I can get back to my life. Albeit a changed life.

Week 1 day 2 had to have a liver ultra sound so I was npo till 10 am this morning and my mammogram didn't go well so now need ultra sound on that on Thur. lots of new and not so good things coming all at once. diabetes, high cholesterol fatty liver and now lump in breast what a week!

Bought blood sugar monitoring equipment and used it!

Plan to exercise today.

Worked toward lowering carbs in my diet and did well after joining this challenge.

Week 1 Day1 Diagnosed 4/21/16
Goals: Learn learn learn...go to my nutrition education class, get my glucose meter (they haven't given me one yet), try to eat my target carbs, proteins, calories. I'm not eating enough calories, carbs or proteins. Just trying to figure out how to eat that often and that much.

Forget yesterday, live for today, reach for tomorrow. Life is GOOD!

Trying to cut back on sugar. I always have problems with Easter. I've been having fresh fruit for dessert and checking labels for low sugar treats. I don't like artificial sweeteners so when I bake I try to cut back on the sugar as much as I can without affecting the end result and I look for recipes where I can use sweeteners like honey, etc. because they're sweeter than sugar so you can use less.

Just signed up to take the challenge. I take medicine for diabetes (tablet 2 X's a day) I am seriously overweight and have quite a few medical problems. All because I have failed to take care of myself. Definitely ready for a change emoticon !

Week 1 Day 2 Had an 88 FBS this morning. That's really rare, and a bit too low. Guess I didn't enough carbs yesterday, although I thought I'd had enough. I did get over 2 hours of exercise though and over 10,000 steps (very first time for that!) and I even had nonfat yogurt and cereal for a bedtime snack. I finally got my FBS down to a range between 100 - 118, but it really drops when I get a lot of exercise.

Checking in on my first day. I do not do blood sugar testing, although I may check into a monitor to start.

Edited to Add: I am actually considered pre-diabetic, so am under less restriction, but I still really need to get my weight down.

Week 1 Day 7: Blood sugar levels are good but still having problems finding foods that I will eat and are healthy for me. I am added strength training to my fitness goals so I should start seeing some changes in my body.

Week 1, Day 5: Got 9 1/2 hours of sleep. Walked outside a total of 30 minutes and did 30 minutes of strength training on weight machines ate the gym. I am hoping that if I do this at least 3 times per week I will start seeing improvement in my health.

I had a really bizarre dream about a strange medical team, my eating and diabetes last night. I'm not a big fan of dream study, but this dream stayed with me when I woke and it was all to true. I've been very lax in what I know I need to be doing. So Here I am starting the 8-week challenge again.
