I met my weekly goals. I ate vegetables every day and I stayed within my recommended calorie range. I am following the Diabetes Meal Plan. However, sodium still is an issue. I am drinking more water though to hopefully flush some of that out of my system. I did manage to meet Week 1's assignment for exercise. I now look forward to seeing what Week 2 will have us do.

Started 1/9. My goal today was to purchase fruit for work and at home. Accomplished!

I'm only light years away from my goal, or so it seems. After all we're not mapping the secrets of the universe.

emoticon I am coming off of a prolonged illness so my sleep has really been messed up. So, 'first things first' I really focused last night on getting a better night's sleep. I awoke feeling rested but I also awoke around 3 p.m. It is bright and sunny so I am sitting next to a window and enjoying the sun. After I finish here I am going to 'time myself' for the exercise limits that are part of this first week's challenge. So, I am doing both the strength and the cardio on Tues, Thurs and Sat of this coming week. I have been tracking all of my food for 8 days and plan to continue to do that. Now, to get this exercise in and fulfill the week 1 challenge action plan.

Good luck all Pam emoticon

This is Day 1 of Week 1. I tracked all of my food all of last week for starters and I exercised a few times (still recovering from a bad virus). I added this challenge to get me more stoked and keep me focused.

Good luck everyone! emoticon

Week 1 Day 4

Managed to stay in range for calories, Got the entire apartment cleaned up and did my nightly workout before bed.

I need to work on getting the meals and snacks better spread out and fitting in more of a work out. I do alright on cardio but need to focus on toning it up. I noticed a lot more popping after i work out but I'm not sure if its good or bad. there is no pain but my knees and lower back tend to pop.

Week 1 Day 3

Still need to squeeze in my work out for today but I did keep my logs and been constantly drinking water.

I bought my first scale and a tape measure to better keep track of my progress.

Checking in. Day 2 went well, even though 2 co-workers invited me out for dinner! I ordered off the "healthy" section of the menu ... chicken breast. I am not paying $11 for salad.

Week 1 Day 2

Hit a rough patch early on. had a surprise double shift when I went in to work yesterday and am exhausted and lacking motivation to be active before I go back tonight. Slowly but surly I am understanding the trackers and seeing how out of balance my present life style is.

Drank 8 glasses of water
made a schedule for the next 8 weeks of work outs.
the best work out i found was a nightly stretch and relaxation work out that burns a few extra calories and helps to relax before bed.
Walking to and from work

Week 1 Day 1
I am restarting the challenge. I have been doing the steps, but got sidetracked and want to start over.
Not sure of sugar level - out of test strips. No meds, so its probably high. A1C over 3 months ago was 9.6 and I haven't had meds since. As soon as I get paid, will get it all back.

Weight this morning - 191 lbs (down from 222).

Week 1 Day 1 300 lb

I am now back where I started. I lost 15 lbs pretty quickly and life got in the way and I gained 13 lbs back but I never gave up on SP. I recorded all calories and weight no matter what. I finally decided that it was time I got my enthuiasim back and I have lost the 15 lbs again. So now it's onward and downward.

Just signed up for this challenge. I am using fitness blender and sparkpeople videos for my work outs. I am also trying the 100 squat challenge. The first step is 10 squats a day until I can build up more.

had 8 cups of water
tracked all my meals but i still went over calorie range so need to work on it
set up a work out calendar on fitness blender and walk to work.

The Diabetes Clinic my Dr. sent me to gave me a brand new meter, but there were only enough test strips for 1 week. I am waiting for my new order of test strips to comes in the mail. I took my blood sugars everyday for a week. When I get the strips, my Dr. wants me to do fasting Blood Sugars every morning . I am making the commitment to do that.

I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes in 2006 after I had a heart attack. They believe that the diabetes is what caused the heart attack. I use Metformin to control my diabetes. My last A1C was 5.8. My blood sugars mostly stay between 70 and 130 so doctor is pleased but my eating habits are terrible. I really need to get a good healthy eating plan so I will eat more healthy. I also need to start an exercise program that will help my heart as it only functions at about
20 % capacity instead of the 80-90% everyone else functions at. I like the Diabetes workout plans and will incorporate them into my day to increase fitness.

Week 1, Day 1

Forgot to test until after breakfast.

Not a good way to start, but I am fairly certain sugar was in range.

Hi Gini,
I have been seeing a dietician/nutritionist for 8 months now and almost everything I thought I knew about eating as a diabetic was wrong. I was diagnosed 3 years ago and have tried to lower my A1C with diet and exercise alone. My doctor set up a 5 week session on classes that helped out alot but it wasn't until I met with the dietician who got me understanding what I really need to do. There really is no right or wrong way of eating but it certainly is a lifestyle change.
I see the dietician once a month and this months challenge/goals was to get 40-60 grams of fiber a day...gradually of course. Don't want to be doing that all in one week. LOL.
Keeping your food/exercise journal will help a lot with pinpointing what foods your blood sugars react to. To my dismay, I found I cannot eat an apple and peanut butter as my before bed snack anymore and I find myself reading packages much more often than before.
Hang in there and gather as much info as you can. It is learning experience. I am sure your docter will put you on the right track.

I am still having a really difficult time eating within diabetic limits. I need to find an article about what to eat . I have NOT had any diabetes training yet from my doctor. I guess I am just in a great hurry to get on board with doing things right for myself.

Today I walked for another 10 minutes. That's 4 times I think this week. I was not moving at all for a long time all day long, just sitting. So not good for me. I am finally ready, I think, to try to use the nutrition tracker to plan a few meals for next week based on my caloric and carbohydrate restrictions. This could take me a long time to relearn how to make a restricted diet menu. Off I go.

Week 1: tracked food every day, did 30 mins stationary bike (11-13 MPH) 6 days, added couple of 20 minute strength training workouts and did dumbbells M-W-F. I'll be talking to my doc about an educator or class when I see her this Weds. Great week.

Day 3/week 1. Did a Leslie Sansone DVD on Tummy Toning first thing this morning. Then went to the pool and did water exercises using water weights.

Tracked my food today too. I'm having trouble with the Nutritional Tracker tho....for some reason it won't let me add my own foods.....I just have to pick something from the existing list that sounds similar to my recipe or has a few of the same ingredients in it. It also won't let me group ingredients.
