Personally, I would sign up for a 5K if possible, and work on educating myself on proper form, and consistency. my prime goal is to finish better than my first time. I don't care if it's 1 second better, I would look to improve. I know my body will respond with good training AND clean fuel. Embrace the challenge and have fun with it!

I did it my 1st real run all the way, no walking, no stopping 5k run!!!! I did it in 42:31. I did it around the park and the park is 1 1/4 miles, now I wanted each lap to be under 15 and well I got each lap in 16:40 so it's not as fast as I hopped but at least I did it and at least I was able to run each mile under 15 minutes! Question is what is next after running a 5k? I don't want to stop but I don't want to jump to far ahead, and ideas?

Remember, YOU ARE WORTH IT!

I love volunteering. You get the education of the event...and the fever to do it! I did it for the Dunedin Triathlon on June 6. Now, I'm registered to do Top Gun Triathlon (My first) and the Courage to Tri on Aug 26. Yeah, I'm not at all well!

I have one in July on the coast that will be put on by a county. It's their first race, so it may be a little odd, too. And we're sleeping in a tent the night before, so I may not sleep again! But it will also be beautiful and I won't miss it. After this, though, I promised myself some real quality events. I think I'm doing a big run in Umpqua in August, but I haven't picked 5k or 10k. My hubby and I are going to get tested for poisoning first. We're both still sick (he's worse than I am) and a neighbor's been burying car parts, including batteries. We're on well water. If I've got something going on besides my usual lung issues, maybe I'd better not sign up for anything bigger than a 5k. I've volunteered to direct traffic for a half marathon in August. I'm reading the Lore of Running by Tim Nokes, which is full of anatomy and physiology. Sick or not, I've also got the running bug - bad!

No matter what happens at a race, I stay focused, and run my race. No race is ever the same. The length will vary but we go out and take care of business. It's all about the training, and finishing! Great job, great time, and you ran your race!

Way to Go! I had little sleep for the relay run I did too. It's funny cuz I usually do my best under odd circumstances. 20th out of 140 is great and people really do appreciate others cheering them on.

I just got back from my 5k. No sleep because I made the mistake of trying a new cough and cold medicine the night before and had an allergic reaction to it. But there was NO WAY I was going to miss it! And then I got lost on the way there because I was frazzled. And then they announced the widow whose husband inspired the race in the first place had decided to walk it, even though she was in labor, so they changed the course that morning. So it was going to include Pre's trail so they would stay on this side of the highway but it wouldn't be a regulation 3.11 miles anymore... it would be ABOUT 3 miles. It ended up being 2.9 something... people's foot pods disagreed and I just got mine FedEx yesterday and didn't have time to program it. But it was definitely just shy of 3.0 miles.

I ran/walked it in 35.26 minutes and ended up feeling pretty good about it, considering. I was definitely NOT first. I was about 20th out of about 140 people. I came in all by myself, though, literally FIVE MINUTES ahead of some others who jogged slowly the whole time and some who walked more than I. Others straggled in slowly over then next twenty or thirty minutes. They probably walked the whole way. And I stood at the finish line, cheering my fool head off and embarrassing my husband for everyone who came in after me. I had a great time, no sleep or not.

Did a local Wounded Warrior 5K yesterday and what a difference running outside - was much harder for me with the wind and uneven terrain (ran on a country road and streets in small village.) Walked more than I had hoped to but still very satisfied w/my time of 37:38 as my goal was to finish in under 40. Biggest excitement was that I won my age bracket (60-65) and got a medal! Hope to do more running outside and less on the treadmill.

I wasn't able to finish week 3-4 of the training as my membership had expired to the gym and I was hoping to finish outside, but between the weather and a sore arch I didn't finish. But I still ran my 5K on Saturday. I am satisfied with my finish at 37.4 for my first time. My goal was to get 40 or under.

I completed my 2nd 5k yesterday in 33:42. I'm going to continue working on my endurance. For the next three weeks it will just be general runs, and then once I move back home I'm going to start training for a 10k.

I did my 5K on Sunday and it was great! Tough but great. I did it in 37.15 and my goal was to do it in under 38 mins so I'm very proud of that!

I'm doing my next 5K on June 14 and for that I'm going to work on my breathing as I felt like I was wheezy. I'm also going to run as much as possible.

Thanks team for all your support and encouragement! emoticon

I just wanted to let you guys know I did complete the program, even though I haven't been posting in the weekly thread. I've just been too busy for the computer.

I did it in 38 minutes and 5 seconds. I'm pretty happy, my goal was to do it in under 40 minutes. I have just under a month until the 5K race I'm registered for so I'm hoping that I can get my time down a bit before then and slowly build up my mileage to conquer longer races.

And getting there can be half the fun
So don't stop me until I'm good and done

This is very important. Embrace patience. I didn't and got injured. It kills me now as I have to do PT and cut back on my races, and insure I'm training properly. You do what you are supposed to and you will crush your run goals! Stay strong!

I might suggest that you take a look at the Jeff Galloway Training Program. There are all avenues for interval training and run technique at distances from 5Ks to Marathons!
Yes, there is a fantastic Spark Team of which I am a member. I've learned so much about Jeff Galloway's plans and SparkRunners' experiences using this plan.

Way to Go! I started this program on the treadmill and when I moved outside, it was much harder. Now with the weather changing, I'm back to doing more treadmill runs. I try to do intervals on it which seems to make outdoor running easier for me.

Since completing my 5 K, I have been adding some uphill training to strengthen my legs for running outdoors. I tried one outdoor run with a friend and it was so much harder than the treadmill! Since doing strength training for the uphills, we tried an outdoor run again and it went fantastically. I did not battle with the 5K! Also, have increased my treadmill run to 6k in 40 min.
