I feel like I hit a wall at 30 min - been running on and off for 2 years now, haven't made 35 minutes yet. Maybe I'll make that a New Year's goal I've ran a couple of 5k races, though, and took 40 seconds off my last race, even if I DIDN'T run the whole time. That makes me happy! And I know I'm running faster, too. I think some of it is diet; I know MY diet needs work! Lots of water, and carbs before running. Don't run on an empty stomach, but obviously don't overeat, either - and NO GREASE! Lighter foods like oatmeal & bananas are best, IMO. Good Luck!!!
So here I am again. Didn't run for a while now. I have been walking a lot on the treadmill.
I guess I got really discouraged after not being able to run 35 minutes straight. But when I looked back at this, I realized that my post stated that I ran 12 minutes and then a couple of days later I ran 20 minutes. So I had made progress, but just didn't recognize it! Because the program finished with 35 minutes, I just felt like I should be able to run the whole 35 minutes, didn't look more...blinded by that, I guess.
Your responses make sense to me now. So I am going to log my running details in a notebook and see how I progress. I will try to go longer each time but will not push myself so hard that I will stop running again.
Thanks for your responses and encouragement. I'm learning, slowly but surely to be not so hard on myself that I get blinded and sidelined by it!
You do exactly what you are doing! Do what you can, when you can. You will improve. Keep a log book and you will see the changes over the next couple months if you keep at it. You will make the 35 before you know it. Go, go, go!!!!

I think you should just do what you can. I have been jogging lately and are building up very slowly. It takes time and if we take it at a pace we can handle its more enjoyable and we are less likey to have injuries. You are doing great

I ran 20 minutes straight today :) Then for the next 10 minutes I was only able to walk/run. Then ran 10 minutes straight. Then ran/walked. So I am happy with that. I will try to build up. I really have to keep encouraging and pushing myself (in my head). I find it hard. Do you guys do that too? Or do you just love to run?
I am in week 4 and have not stopped with the 1 minute walks but also am stretching out the jogging minutes. For me it depends on hills in my route, time of day, and maybe some other factors. I am thinking that the cross training that I do NOT do would help me. Still, mostly running is fine with me. Keep on moving everyone!

Everyone is different. If you can do 12, then try 13 tomorrow. And 14 the next day. Our bodies are all different and what works for one person doesn't for another. I have been able to run the full 5k for a few months now, but yesterday I just could NOT do it. Headache, fatigue...something just isn't right. Part of me thought I should push myself, but then the sane part kicked in and said "slow it down" - so I walked some of it. Good for you that you are listening to your body. Also, if you push too hard you may end up hating running. Best of luck. Be gentle and patient with yourself. So what if it takes a bit longer. Hugs!
