Wow, I'm so impressed, it seems you all are already doing the 5k even while training on week 3. I finished week 3 day 1 of the C25K Friday and loved it! I can't wait for tomorrow's run.

Happy Sunday!!

Finished week 3! Day 1 was pretty easy, day 2 was harder, and day 3 was somewhere in between. I don't know how far I ran, though, but I'm guesstimating around a 10 minute mile pace.

Did W3 D3 on Friday. Hit 4 miles spot on in 40 minutes! Felt great.
Today I'm heading out for W4 D1! Eeeeek! Full running for 35 minutes. I'm quite nervous though. But just gonna do my best and see what happens. It's really hot outside today though, so gonna have to wait until later this afternoon/early evening to go. Gonna just run around the park though...wanna show myself I can do the full time without having to worry about encountering hills! Wish me luck x

Week 3, Day 3: 40 minutes covering 4.94 miles, but I messed up the training protocol.

I was supposed to walk 1 minute, run 4 minutes for 8 cycles. I was daydreaming through my landmark, and missed looking at my watch in cycle 1 till about 4:25. So I ran 5 minutes and thought about it for a while.

Cycle 2, I walked 1 and ran 5. Ditto Cycle 3. I was considering whether to make this 7 cycles and chop the last run to 3 minutes, or shift to 4 minute runs at Cycle 6.

Cycle 4, I misread my watch. I read it as 1:45 left when it was probably 0:15 over. Ended up running 7 minutes. Thought about that a while, and made Cycles 5 and 6 walk 1, run 6 for a total of 40 minutes.

At the end I covered just a little less distance than W3 D2. I think this is because I was walking slower today. Thursday my one minute walks were pretty brisk. The weather was kind of crappy today, too; 48 degrees with light wind and light rain. But I got the run in, and picked a spot in my driveway without a puddle to sit and do my hamstring stretches. My butt wasn't going to get any wetter than it already was, so I might as well stretch outside.

I think I'm ready to try running 35 minutes for W4 D1 when it rolls around on Monday.

Week 3, Day 2 yesterday evening. Walk 1, Run 4 times 8 covering 4.97 miles.

Same route as W3, D1 with a few little hills. No problems with the calves, and my feet weren't very sore at the end.

I'm beginning to believe I'll be ready to run continually in Week 4.

Thanks Krystie!

Did W3 D2 yesterday! KILLER! I ran to the swimming pool, but didn't realise just how hilly it was! Hence my distance was a lot slower than last time...managed to get in 3.86 miles. Still proud of myself though. The swim afterwards felt like a well-deserved reward :)

W3 D1: did spot on 4 miles in the 40 mins! I'm SO very proud of myself. Totally out doing my expectations. And my route was perfect, a couple of up hills, a couple of down hills, some good flats. Definitely going to do that route again. It was pretty tough though, especially the last 10 minutes. I'm hoping it does get easier as people below are saying.

Week 3, Day 1: Walk 1, Run 4 times 8. 4.90 miles in 40 minutes.

There are a lot of moving parts to becoming a runner. I could definitely run longer than 4 minutes at a time if it were up to my cardiovascular system, but I think my calves and feet need to stick to the program to develop a bit more.

I finished up W3D3 with a 5k of 34:02 ... looking forward to starting week 4 tomorrow. 35m should feel like a breeze after a week of 40m runs, lol.

Hi gang, I haven't been tracking my workouts properly and I just found this chat group. lol I actually think I may have joined the wrong group because I am running 5K's already. Which is a good thing since I've got a 5K race coming up on Saturday!

What I'm struggling with is foot pain. I have plantar fasciitis and I just can't find a comfort zone. I'm on my 3rd pair of running shoes since I started running in April. I just did the shoe finder thing and I guess I'll have to try one of those and see how they work. I really enjoy running but I am not enjoying the foot pain I have to deal with afterwards.

I've got one more run to go before my race on Saturday so it's too late to do any other shoe changes right now. Wish me luck on Saturday, I just want to finish in the middle of the old lady age group emoticon

Week 3 is done baby! Yeah!

I don't usually run on Fridays because I have a zumba class those days but today the normal instructor was gone and I'm not fond of the other instructor because her classes are more like aerobics (complete with lunges and everything). Good workout but not my cup of tea. Because I'm going on a day-long trip tomorrow (my normal running day) I decided to skip the zumba and run instead. Tomorrow's extensive walking can be my cross-training. Hehehe

Anyway, I finally managed to get through the whole 5k within the allotted 40 minutes! YAY! Next week the really hard work begins. Muwhahahahaha!! emoticon

Week 3 Running Day 2:
I'd say it's getting easier but I push myself harder when I think I can manage it so it's really just as hard as it used to be. Lol However! I'm now running more at 5mph than 4.5mph and I was able to run at 6mph for the last two minutes before the cool down. This push at the very end was only because My goal for today's training was to reach 3.1miles which is the entire 5k race. But, no, I just barely missed it. 3.07miles. Literally a few more seconds would've gotten me my goal but the treadmill automatically went into cool down mode after my 40 minutes were up. So close!! Lol emoticon

Things are going good except I'm developing a new callous from all the running so that part of my foot is sore. Nothing very noticeable though unless I rub my feet.

Well, I thought things were going well, but that ankle brace that I had been wearing, rubbed on the outside of my foot, wearing away a chunk of skin, and subsequently, my boots/sneakers kept rubbing at it, making it VERY uncomfortable to walk, much less run. So I am taking yet another week off from the running program, and plan to restart again on the 29th, provided all goes well. I also have a Dr's appt tomorrow morning, just to make sure everything else is going well; very concerned about my only losing .2 lb a week with my intense workouts. Dr should be taking full blood work and giving me a physical. I hate this, because I feel like a slug, with no running.

Did Week 3 Day 1 today (AGAIN), since I sprained my ankle. Started running with my ankle brace, but that came off after the first interval. The last mile, I walked a few extra minutes, but I still came out with 3.4 miles in 40 minutes, so things seem to be OK ;)

Starting W2D1 tomorrow...looking forward to it! Not sure if my pace is ok or not, but I'm tired when I'm finished and that's good!

Today is supposed to be my Week 3 Day 2 run. I twisted my ankle last night at work, and it is still pretty tender; actually, I stepped sideways on my ankle. I dont want to run on it, and risk further injury, so I think what I will do, is just SUSPEND my progam for a week. I'd rather be one week back than 6 weeks with a broken ankle. So I will begin my Week 3 again next Sunday; hopefully then my ankle will be feeling good as new.

I finished Week 3 Day 1.....it was very windy and raining so I went to the Base and ran inside on the treadmill. I'm glad that I did run; don't want to bust my streak ;) I did fairly good; ran 3.32 miles in 40 minutes. I'm getting excited to run 35 min of all running next week:)
What's nice about the treadmill, is that I can see what my pace is. I was running an average 5.5 mph, and walk intervals was 4.3 mph. I'm happy with that; can always improve later.

I completed Wk3D3 today and am very anxious to see how my first full 35 min of running will work out. I'm still pacing slow but I'm sure that will change after I get a comfortable pace going in a full run. I'm very happy with sticking strictly to the plan. My confidence is rising.

Here in the Turtle Class, I finished Wk3D1. I know that I can go faster but I'm afraid to risk it. I think that I will go through this week, finish the intervals, do the straight jog and open the pace. I know I'll pick up speed. I have to get of the fear of injury.

Week 3 Day 1 run today. I did 3.7 miles, so not bad. BUT I'm having big issues with my HRM and it really distracted me. It kept showing my HR as 0. GRRRR!!! I'm hoping it just needs a new battery because it wasn't cheap. Going to do some Zumba tomorrow for my cross training day and probably some strength training.

Did my week 3, day 3 outside in the mist, did 5K in 3:11, and for 40 min. did 3.99 miles. That's faster than I've done before! I just couldn't go more! My goal is to get a true 10 min. mile!

Sorry to hear about the collarbone.

If you just need to take a few days off of running, you can probably start week 3 over again. If it's a few weeks, you should start over from week 1 again. I know it's disappointing, but if you take the time now, you can be running for many years to come.

Rest up and feel better soon!

ok need help started week 3 on Monday did good ran 3.08 miles in 40 minutes but the things is doctors think I fracture my collarbone some how and my arm is in a sling so I cant run. When I am able to run again should I start the training all over again or start from where I left off. It could be a couple day or a couple weeks until I can run again. This stinks I was doing good. emoticon

I did week 3 day 2 on Monday, and it was hard to get going again, but I finished really strong for the last interval. I got my speed up to 6 mph according to my Garmin! I completed 2.99 miles in 40 mins outside so that does not include warm/cool.

THEN, I hit the couch for three days of agony which included no exercise. Friday, I gingerly stepped on my TM not sure how I was going to feel, and just took it easy, glad to just be moving again. I completed 3 miles in 50 mins(including warm/cool 10 minutes)and was very glad it was over. I kept my speed at 3.5 for walk and 4.0 for jog.

I am so excited to start week 4 on Monday, but being couched for three days with a sore tummy made it really easy to wait!

Arcelt, being aware of your body is so important, and yes, overtraining is a real danger. As much as you want to drop the weight, making yourself sick by overtraining is only going to delay your weight loss and perhaps make you regain some of the hard earned losses you have seen. Patience is worth it!

818Valerie, I hope you are feeling better!

Arcelt I too am a treadmill runner for the most part. I understand how you feel. I know you can do it. We can all do anything we set our minds to. Do you listen to music while you run? Maybe a more even beat that will keep you at a nice smooth pace.

I will do w3d1 tomorrow myself. I will try I should say I am on my second day with no Advil and the Doctor said when I was ready.

Thanks MBSHAZZER. I rested all weekend and gave it another go on the road this evening, this time making sure to keep a consistent, realistic pace during my running intervals. This time I made it through the entire 40 minutes, going just over 3 miles. It's not the 4 that I got on the TM but it's nice to know that I can road run as well.

I'm going to take it a bit easier, make sure I get enough rest and calories so that I hopefully won't flame out again the way I did last week.

ARCELT, running on a TM and outdoors is very different. Definitely give yourself time to adjust to running outside. The TM gives you a little forward motion, not to mention that the surface is much softer.

If you are feeling run down, it is definitely an indication to take a day or so off to allow your body to recover. Most of our fitness gains come during rest, so it's important to make sure you're getting enough.

Ok, I tried to do w3d2 and failed miserably. All my running to date has been on the treadmill and, since races aren't run on treadmills and the weather is finally turning a bit nicer, I decided to do a road run. About 1.5 miles in I hit a wall like nothing I've ever hit before. My legs turned to rubber and it was all I could do to shuffle myself home. I felt shaky and utterly exhausted.

I wonder if I've been overtraining. On my non-run days I've been lifting weights, attending an indoor cycling spinning class (which is BRUTAL), and occasionally using the elliptical. I've also been watching my calories since I have quite a bit of weight to lose.

It seems like my body finally sent me the message to slow down and I guess I'd better listen. I certainly will be repeating this week. I've taken three days off so far. I'm going to try w3d2 again tomorrow but at a much slower pace. My initial goal was to run my 5k, which is on 4/30, in under 30 minutes and I think aiming at that goal is making me work far too hard. I'm now just going to aim for completing the race without walking and worry about times for my next 5k.

I did Wk 3 D 1 one day early today. It was a big struggle, did it outside, completed 2.86 miles. Only the last rep felt comfortable and I was ready for more after that when I realized I was done and working on cool down! In the past, it took the first 30 minutes of the run for me to finally feel comfortable, and using the 1 minute walk intervals means it takes longer for me to "hit my stride" so to speak. I am really looking forward to the full out runs starting next week, and it is going to take all of the will power and patience I have to wait until I finish this week before moving on to full running.

Personal best last night, around 3.4 miles in 40 min. Don't remember exactly. I wrote it down - but it's at home & I'm at work. Felt great (when I was done). I am also not sure I can do a full 35 min. jog without a walk break somewhere in there, but like Heather said, possibly going slower for the 35 min. will make it possible. It's worth a go.

I got 3.3 miles in my 40 minutes. Slowly making progress.

ARCELT - Maybe if you focus on time and not speed that can help you to run 35 minutes straight. In other words...jog slower. Then after you can run the full 35 minutes increase your speed. Just a thought.

W3D1, did 4.0 miles in the 40 minutes. It was on a treadmill, though, so keeping pace was pretty easy, though I felt like I was going to drop at the end. If the weather is nice, I'm going to do W3D2 outside to get used to actual road running.

I suspect I'll be repeating this week with longer running intervals. I don't feel like I'll be able to run 35 minutes straight next week.

Was not feeling it last night, but I did it anyhow. I kept reminding myself I would feel better for having done it. 3.32 miles in 40 min. I am glad I did it; I think this allergy thing is just sapping my energy and motivation. But, I am not going to let it dictate my progress...

I was supposed to start week 4 today but will start tomorrow. Yesterday I walked 14.5 miles with the AHG troop and my feet don't feel like running. Still carrying too much excess weight, I guess. Will start week 4 tomorrow. My race is Mar. 26th so will be doing training on Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday, Monday, Wednesday then not running again until the Saturday race. Does that sound like a good plan? I think it will work. Weather is supposed to get warmer. Going up to 47 today!! Hope it's nice on race day. I wish it were a bit longer away but here goes!! I'm signing up today. I can do this. Thanks for all the support. I'll be looking for that less bulky water bottle. I don't think I need much water, just a little. Have a sparked week!

Finished w3d3 today!!! YAY! Ran outside today, it's a little cold and my neighborhood is kinda hilly, but was still able to do the 5k just under the 40minutes. Was definitely slower today but I knew that going from indoor track to outside would be a challenge. Can't wait for this weather to stay warmer so we can run outside more.

Going to repeat week3 schedule one more day to let my sis catch-up, she's been sick the last couple of days. But Week 4 here I come!

I feel like i will be ready next week, but he's starting to make me doubt myself, so i was hoping there was a reason to why the training program is set-up like it is. Thank you! :-)

Backtoten12 - if you are thirsty, bring water with you! You can buy a handheld water bottle that straps onto your hand and is very light and unobtrusive.

KWILLIAMS - you don't have to go into running for 35 minutes straight in week 4 if you don't feel ready. You can repeat week 3, or just extend the running portion while still incorporating walk breaks. The goal of this program is to get people to run for 35 minutes straight, but there iis nothing wrong with continuing to employ a walk / run program. Many people do so, even up to the marathon distance.

W3d2, 3.35 miles in 40 minutes, 5k in 37:00, yay. Um, did pretty good today for missing a meal because of a migraine I had earlier.

Question for the coach: my brother in law doesn't understand the training schedule. He thinks that doing these walk a minute run for four intervals and then jumping into running 35 minutes straight in week 4 is extreme. I don't know how to respond other than that whoever designed the program must know what they're doing. Just wondering if you could give some incite on the matter.

Thanks!

Outside again today. I'm so much slower out there. 40 min. 3.14m . I walked for 12 more minutes but don't know how far it was. I didn't press the right key on the phone. Do you carry water when you run? I get soooo thirsty I only run around my neighborhood so I can get a drink on my porch on the way by.

W3D3--tough run tonight. I'm whipped. Did 4.08 in the 40 minutes, 4.77 total including the 5 min warm up and 5 min cool down. Hit the 5K mark at 30:11, not counting the warm up. Ankles a bit ouchie, so I'm icing them. Hope that gets straightened up! Any suggestions?

Becky

Didn't do as well today as last week. Ate too much fried food yesterday. (paczki day! yum!) I did 3.39 in 40 minutes so I'm hoping to finish in less than 40 on my 5k, Mar. 26th!! It's outside so I hope it won't be too cold. I felt good when I finished. have to remember that part. emoticon

Yesterday was W3d1 for me. 3.17 in 40 minutes on a treadmill. I started a kettlebell class the night before & boy were my legs barking at me during my run!!!!
