Adios week #2! Last day was 40 min and I went 3.5 miles and ended up with a 11:00 and change pace, beating my 12:00 previous best. Ready for week 3!

I am just finished with week 2 day 2 and getting sooo excited about this 5k! I did my best in terms of distance - 3.11 miles in 35 minutes and the running is actually getting easier. I am so thrilled about my progress and that I am sticking to the schedule.

Thanks for your encouraging words, Shakymomma1
Last week was a rough week. I only did 2 of my 3 work outs. I was seriously considering quitting, based on how bad I was doing. I thought about it over the weekend & decided to stick with it and today I did my D3W2 training. Actually, the running walking intervals were much better. YAY!
I'm going to be a little behind now, because of making up my missed day. I think by next week I'll be able to catch up. Feel very apprehensive about Week 4, 35 min. of running.

KATD13,
Do not ever feel discourage, you are doing a good job still. I think all of us has one of those days where we feel like that one minute is not enough for us, i had one of those days 2 weeks ago I ran outside instead of the treadmill and let me tell you i felt as if i was going to die but i finished and that is all that matters, and you had grocery bags so that more weight. But please don't get discouraged just continue to do you best and keep pushing good luck.

Finished week two, even though i did not do one run, because my body was tired from all the strength training. But overall I did 10 miles last week moving on to week three now.

Hi all!
Did W2D1, today. Not a great preformance.
I don't want to make excuses...but the grocery store was my halfway point. I went in & picked up a couple items. So I was carrying an extra 5 lbs. on my way home. I did find it harder to run & had to keep switching the bags, from one arm to the other. The 1 minute rest just wasn't enough, felt like I really needed about 2 minutes. I feel a little discouraged, because I'm doing so badly. I'd love to feel like I'm making some improvement with the running. Hopefully it will get better.
Thursday is my next running day.

I finished week 2 yesterday. The heat and humidity are way up again and expected to get worse. I got up at 5:30 and did my run. I am not a morning person at all so getting up was the biggest challenge of the day.

I ran twice on my vacation last week - both on a treadmill due to the hotel being in a area with no sidewalks and on highways. I finished Week 1 and did the first day of Week 2. It was tough, but I was also tired from all the vacation activities (we were in Orlando, FL). I also threw on the wrong pair of socks (short, thin anklets rather than my thick running socks), and gave myself some blisters. I've been letting them heal before I tackle W2D2 and D3. I think they'll be better tomorrow.

I feel guilty by not doing the actual Wk2D1 assignment BUT feel marvelous at what I did accomplish.
I am 60 and my 17 yr old cross country running grandson visited yesterday from out of state. THIS was my chance to spend some special time with him alone. He was the most amazing running partner - encouraging - TEACHING - caring and coaching me for the entire 2.5 miles that we ran together. The difference from W2D1 is that we did not do any 1 min walking. I ran the entire 35-40 minutes - NEVER EVER EVER have I done that in my life. And the only reason we did not go the 3 miles (which was an option because of the route we took) was because I just felt I should be wise and not push quite that far. He was awesome and then made sure we spent almost 10 minutes stretching.
I have actually reached the point of telling people that I am training for a Triathalon and just realized as I am typing this that I Can't Wait!!

I rested all yesterday and walked today and my calf feels alright, so I'm going to try to get back to jogging. I think I'll need to play it by ear a bit and walk if it's feeling tight again. It hurt after my ballet class last Friday as well, so something in that muscle isn't happy.

I tried to do W2D2 today, but at about 17 minutes I felt my right calf "pop" a little bit, so I turned around and walked back. Disappointing. I'm resting it today and walking tomorrow and hopefully it'll be fine to try again Thursday.

The fun of the "day after" pain! I have been trying a different style of running. I have new running shoes and I have been trying to run more on the ball of my foot instead of landing on the heel of my foot. I have heard that this type of running takes a toll on your calfs and shins but I did not give it much thought until today. I am glad today is not another run day

I ended up pulling a muscle early in the week, so I didn't get out running as much as I had planned or wanted to. But I did manage to at least get out and walk a lot. Glad I set my goal of a 5 k one week later in the beginning.

You are correct, you should not feel frustrated. KEEP YOUR HEAD UP not down. Think about your form and inch up to a longer distance. You will be surprised when you go the distance and didn't realize it. KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK!

I know I shouldn't be discouraged, but switching from running 3 walking 1 to running 4 walking 1 lead to less distance while running. I know I did less intervals, and I know this happened last summer when I did the walk/jog program ... but it still feels frustrating. Just gotta keep my head down and keep going though.

Just finished 2nd run in week 2. I have never run before and I honestly can't believe I am doing this! I am tracking around the same speed as most here - my running is at 4.5 mph, on treadmill. I am preparing for a 5k in June and want to use the extra time to improve my speed. In October I will do a challenging (hilly) 5k. I am lovin this program. I know I can do this!

Day 2 Week 2 completed. My mileage was exactly the same as day 1 and I feel like I worked at least as hard if not harder. I'm getting a little bit frustrated with myself. I am wondering if I have bitten off more than I can chew. I guess not considering I'm still getting it done. Oh well, we shall see.

Week 2 Day 1 complete. I actually felt a little better today than I did at the end of last week. I am not able to pick up my pace at this point but I really just want to complete the program being able to jog the whole thing. I read some information and got some feedback from other runners about my breathing difficulties and focused on working on that. It does help a bit.

Today is day 1 for week 2. I felt a little sluggish, and think it is because of back to back workouts two days in a row, with an additional 2-mile walk first thing each morning. I know it's a lot, but I'm finding it tough getting the runs in during the week, so I figure while I have the time... Rainy and cold day - good for indoor treadmill workouts, laundry and cleaning the house!

Yesterday, was day 1 of week 2. I don't know if it was "springing ahead" or just a bad day; but, it was tough. That surprised me because at the end of last week I was feeling great with 1 min walk, 3 min jog cycles. I am not too concerned as my first race isn't until the end of April...if I need to redo a week I can.
For now I am doing my training on the treadmill. I like the consistency of speed, surface, and ease of tracking minutes. I will move it outside eventually as my confidence builds; but, for sure at the start of next month.
I am a little confused at what speed I should be walking and jogging at. Yesterday, my walking was slower, around 2.8 mph, and jogging was between 3.8 and 4 mph. Last week it was higher. Is there a ideal pace to shoot for? Any suggestions?
Thanks for any help, I appreciate it! Martha

I just started week two. Last night I did 35 min on treadmill for 2.76 miles. My goal is to jog a 10K in September. I've done several 5Ks so I figure it's time to push myself out of my comfort zone.

I hope im posting in the correct place. I end my 2nd week on Sunday...I think. I got my training session in on Thursday. I worked this morning. Didn't get home until 5:00. Im so glad I didn't have to train today. I was wiped out by the time I got home. I took a 31/2 nap!!! It was a long day. I walked all over the court house today as part of my training at the womens shelter. I'll have to get up a bit earlier tomorrow to get my training in.

I didn't get to check in yesterday. I walk/ran 3.2 miles yesterday on the treadmill. It's hard for me to understand this...please don't get upset with me, people run on purpose!? WHY? LOL!!! I could barely breathe when I do 4 minutes at a time. I had to slow things down just a bit. I feel most comfortable at 4.1 mph. It's to hard any faster than that. I was up to 4.5 at times. Is that to fast for my age or am I just not used to running?

Ran 4 miles today. I felt like I was ready so I took the plunge. I'm ahead of schedule on the training but I've got my sites on running a 10K instead of a 5K April 14 if I'm up to it. I want to build slow and strong, though, so as not to cause injury.

Due to weather and schedule I ran 2 days in a row. Then rested a day and today I'm cross training...

I've been running a little so although I'm new to the 5K training, I jumped into Week 2 of training. It was the perfect challenge! After the training, covering about 3.5 miles, I fitness walked 2.5 more miles. It was a terrific Sunday afternoon.

Hi all! I just finished Week 1 yesterday, and am beginning week two. My last run of Week 1 was pretty tough, but I've really found that the music I listen to keeps me going and gives me that little edge to finish tough. I've tried this program twice before, but I just finished a challenge for last month, and I'm loving having goals to be accountable for. So, here's to finishing this challenge this time!! I appreciate any support or tips!

Week 2 day 3, ran 3.12 miles in 40 minutes. Accomplishment of the week for me getting my one mile time down to 12 minutes from 15 min. I feel strong. Thanks you for the plan. I love it.

When you do your training for week 2, come by this thread and tell us about your accomplishments for the day. (Example ) How far did you walk? How did you feel on the day you did it? Or anything else you want to talk about for your 5k training for week 2
