Valerie, a lot of the time, I am running because it's a habit and I know it will make me feel better afterwards. That's OK... whatever gets you moving is GREAT!

well that's good to know. Being a novice at running I was feeling like I'll never grasp this love of running. I don't love it. It is fairly boring to me. But, I do really like the feeling when I am done. I feel great the rest of the day. That's motivation to keep it up

Until you have a good year of running under your belt, don't worry too much about speed. Speedwork and hill repeats increas the risk of injury and the body needs time to adapt to the stress that running puts on it. Just relax and focus on how much fun running can be!

Another training method to increase speed is hill repeats, but it is not a beginner runner option, too much risk for injury. Honestly, the best way to get faster, is to just keep running. You will naturally get faster as you continue to run.

I completed week 2 day 3 today, did 3.167 miles, which is 5K! That is including my 10 minutes of warm up and cool down, so it was a total of 50 minutes. I look forward to more training outside so I can track the distance of my running portion only and post warm and cool in cardio instead of on the run tracking. I am so completely in love with running. I missed it so much for the 4 months I wasn't able to do it, and I am so eternally grateful to my body for being healthy enough to allow me to run again.

I would like to start training to walk 5K again, try to get my time under 62 minutes this time.

Best advice I have heard is to run faster for short amounts and then keep increasing the length of time you run faster. I am sure this is easier on a treadmill then outside.

I'm consistently doing 5K in 38-39 minutes. Any ideas how to smash through that barrier?

I completed wk2 d1 yesterday with my kidlets joining me for a bit at the indoor arena. It was TOUGH! My legs felt like lead until 30 minutes in. I did 45 minutes total, the first and last 5 were warm up and cool down, mileage includes those minutes. I only did 2.8 miles, but it was the hardest 2.8 miles I have ever done!

I am starting week 2 today, I will have to post later my progress. I actually did the 1/4 interval last Monday by accident, but only did 5 reps. With the 7 today, I am a little nervous, because the 5 last week was really challenging. Just going to do my best!

You can do it, ARCELT, it's tough and the first day I couldn't get thru the 35 mins straight, stopped at 27 but on yesterday w4-d2 I was able to push myself thru.. Just keep practicing, I'm going to be repeating week 4 just to work on building my strength to continue being able to run that long, then work on speed!

On wk2d1...did just over 3 miles in 35 minutes...I hit a serious wall at about 25 minutes. I can't imagine jogging 35 min non stop on week 4...we'll see if 2 weeks are enough to get me there. I may add another week of run/walk. I've still got 6 weeks until my first 5k.

Well had a pretty good run, no knee pain at all which really surprised me, but I'm not complaining! Did 2.65 miles in the 35 minute work-out.

Have awhile before my first actual 5k race, so focusing on finishing the training program, then I'm going to focus on speed. My Goal is to do the 5k in 30.

DORKETTE79, fever is hard on the body, so don't be afraid to repeat a few days if you need to.

KWILLIAMS, please be careful with your knee! Try icing it and if it gives you ANY feedback during your run, back off and rest it!

So, I'm kinda nervous about my w2d1 run tonight after work. I fell on concrete stairs yesterday and my knees are hurting pretty bad, but I'm hoping that with a 20 minute warm-up with Jillian Michaels before hand will have everything loosened up and ready for my run. If not, I guess that's what advil is for. I'll post my miles and time tonight afterwards and let you know how I did. Hope I do Great!!!

w2d1 done. I have gotten off track. I usually run mon, wed, fri but i just did not want to run in the cold yesterday. Well that extra rest worked wonders. I ran/walked 2.43 in 35 mins and had the energy for more. I registered for my next 5k last night.

Today was W2D1 for me. I thought is was running faster than last week but maybe not, lol. 2.75 miles in 36 min. 3 miles in 40. I guess that's ok for now. I just want to finish the 5 week program and then focus a lil more on speed the 3 weeks that follow b4 my 5k. Hoping to finish it within 35 minutes. However, more importantly, i just want to finish it:-)
