W2D3 done. 40 min. 2.9 miles. Not as bad as I thought it would be, so I may be able to move to week 3 next week. After next week may be the issue, but no need for me to think about that before I get week 3 done.

Sharon. just curious, how long does it take to "replace" the loss of blood and I'm all new to this, so how does water aid in rebuilding???

Through with W2D2 -- both runs this week felt great. They were similar in pace so I'm hoping that when I head out tomorrow I can pick up the pace just a little bit. I'm at about 3.1 miles in that 35 mins. My route has quite a few hills as well. Might try something flatter next week, but in my neighborhood flatter is difficult to come by :)

Falling behind on week 2, had planned to go out tonight, but I just gave blood and they nearly had kittens when I mentioned a 5k run this evening, so will have to shelve it until tomorrow.

I just did W2D3, 3.9 mile, 40 min. It was easier today I think then any of the other days. Hope that it continues this way. I really want to improve my time. I think that I like this program!

W2D2 done (yesterday) 35 min., 2.6 miles. Not too bad, but I know I'd rather be outside - even though my time may not be as fast. I'm thinking I'm also going to repeat week 2. I don't think I'm mentally ready to run all 35 minutes. I still intend to get there, just not next week.

W2D2 this morning. Yippee!! Ran a little quicker on some of my run intervals. Tacked 5 minutes of walking on the end to cool down. Did 3.08 miles in 40 minutes. I am doing very good at using my foam roller and stretching after. My hip feels great. Shins are a little tender, need to do some reading on what to do for those.

Week 2 Day 2 done!!!! I ran 3.5 miles in 35 minutes. I have done Couch to 5K and ran several 5Ks but I am actually running faster with the walk break in between.

It is so hard not to compare yourself to others but always celebrate your successes! You will see improvements especially if you run a few 5Ks and continue challenges like these in between. I ran a 5K on Thanksgiving and I felt pretty good about my run until I saw the times. I was 1200 out of 1500 and that just sticks in my crawl! I wanted to be faster than 1200th! That is a pretty high number. BUT it keeps me motivated to try harder and also reminds me that I started running as something different (walking took too much time and with two small kids I just don't have time to spare). Running is fun although sometimes I don't feel that way until my run is over.

We can do it! Let's hang in there!

I can do it!

W2D2 3.3 miles in 35 minutes. In a fine mist and a liitle breezy. Such a difference from the treadmill, but I kind of liked it. I mapped a 3.5 mile route to use on w2d3. Cross country we'll see how tht goes.

W2D2 Report, UGH. I hope that this gets easier. I keep telling myself that if it was easy then everyone would be able to do it. The reward would not be there if it was easy.

Anyway, I did the program and went 3.43 miles in 35 min, which I guess is okay but I feel so darn heavy. I feel like somedays it just requires too much effort. I feel great when IT'S OVER, but I want to feel great when I am running also. Is that possible?

I see others are struggling also. I have considered repeating week 3 when I get there and doing it twice. I have 5 weeks yet until my race for this year.

Lets just keep going everyone! The reward is there waiting for us.

JMCADE, if you are finding week 2 difficult, don't be afraid to repeat it! There is nothing wrong with taking a little longer.

ROBBIE, don't compare yourself to others! The greatest thing about running is that you are only competing against yourself. Unless you are an "elite" runner, there will always be people faster (and slower) than you... that's just the way it is. And even the elites get older and slow down. Amby Burfoot, who is the editor of Runner's World magazine and a Boston Marathon WINNER (won it in the 1960's/1970's) just finished the Athens Marathon in over 6 hours... compare that to a 2 hour and change Boston Marathon finish... we all get older and the important thing is to keep moving and challenging ourselves to be the best we can be NOW, not in the future or the past!

W2D1 done. I think I need to stop reading the posts on this thread! emoticon I feel so good about what I am doing and know in my head I shouldn't compare myself to anyone else but it is so hard not to. I see how much faster everyone else is running and it reminds me how slow I am. I need to remind myself that I will be 57 this summer and need to do this to help me become more prepared for the run portion of the sprint tris I will be doing. I've done a few and always find the running most difficult. Swimming is a cinch and biking I can rock but oh, that running..... emoticon I'll get there. Today I did 2.4 miles in my 35 minutes and then added a good 5 minute warm down. I, too, can't wait to get back outside to run.

Happy running y'all! AND I am very impressed and proud of every single person here working on their running journey!

w2d1 done this morning. Found it harder than week one. Think it is all mental though. In 36 minutes 1 minute of warm up went 3.33 miles. Pretty happy with that. Did this one on the treadmill and hope to take the next run outdoors.

W2D1 done I started with a 2 min warm up and ended with a 3 min cool down total time 40 mins distance = 3.65 miles all on the treadmill, next run should be outside emoticon .

I was surprised how comfortable I found the run, I think perhaps I should I have done moer. It is hard on the trewadmill, you get "scared" of the numbers. Out on the road you just run a t what feels comfortable and I am sure I will do more!

Well done everyone!

W2 D1 done! It was definitely a little tougher for me to do the four minute intervals. 3.19 miles in 36 minutes.

I can't wait for the snow/ice to melt and it to get *a little* bit warmer so I can run outside again. (Can't afford cold weather running gear yet.) The treadmills were crowded at the gym today, and they limit them to 30 minutes if it's busy. Maybe if I get up even earlier I'll have better luck! emoticon

Kelly, I hope you leg heals up quick!

Bike to run is tough - that is for sure....although if you are training for a triathlon you will be golden.

Week 2, Day 3 in the books....40 minutes, 4.03 miles....average pace 9:57...I am psyched. This program is just what my psycho head needs.....

it can be very hard to go from the bike to running and vice versa. I think it's a great idea to use the bike either after you get your running done, or else on non-running days.

W2D1 done. 2.58 miles, 4.0 walk, 4.3-4.7 run. I was dreading last week having to go from 1/3 to 1/4, but it wasn't as hard as I thought. (Subjecting myself to a worry that did not happen !!!!) I think the difference is that last week, I rode the stationery bike for 10 minutes, then did my run on the treadmill. This week I did a slow 5 minute warmup on the treadmill, did my 35 min. and then a 5 minute cool down. Last week I barely got through the last 15 minutes of the run. This week I started slowing down during the last 5 minutes of the run. So I guess the stationery bike is out except during my off-training days.

Oh, yeah, I've had that. What a hassle. I find that lying on the floor with my butt right up against the wall and my legs extended up the wall is a really great stretch, plus, you can do it while watching TV or catching up with someone on the phone! Good luck with it!

It's a tightness pain when I try to extend the leg all the way.. It's behind my right knee, on the backside of my leg. I have been doing lots of stretches and I can feel it getting better. Not going to run on it just yet. Gonna let it heal up some more. Thanks so much for the info :)

Are you having pain, or is it just tight? If you have pain, you should never try to run through it. For tightness, there are stretches you can do while you're taking some time off that will help you feel better when you return to running. Often, scaling back to running every other day or every 3rd day is helpful as well.

Have completed thru Wk2Day1.. but I am going to have to take a running break due to some bad pain on the back on my right leg.. Hamstring to calf. I've been reading about it on forums and I gather it's pretty common. I think I overstretched it before running and pulled it too much.. So I'm going to cross train for a couple weeks while that tendon back there gets better and then gonna get back in the running game!

I'll be back!!! I'm down, but NOT out!

I'm getting better, I've gone from 18 min miles to 13.5 minute miles, Im going to do Day 3 today, I'd like to get my speed about 13 mph or less for training for the 5k.

How's everyone doing?

Hugs!
Krystie

Make sure you ice the splints after you run - it will help them....and you!

I started week 2 yesterday and it went pretty well except for majorly painful shin splints that just started up emoticon I got fitted for some new running shoes so I will be buying those soon and hopefully that will help the problem!

Week 2, Day 2 - is on the record books.

I was able to get my run on outside today - It was HEAVEN! It was about 58' a little sun.

My pace was a touch slower - but not much, considering I was dodging some ankle deep puddles from melt off, traffic, and ice....

36 minutes 3.5 miles.... WHOO HOO.

I love the walk run pattern - it is really suiting me....I am thinking that I might keep up the intervals after week 3....bring it to 5/1 and then 6/1 and see how they feel....I am thinking that 8/1 might be the right interval for me - but that is a way off yet.....I am going to work up to that.

Sharon and Krystie, keep it up! Way to go.

I am loving this program.

I had actually signed up for the virtual race in April, but found one for this week - they are pretty cool -you plug in your time, and then the put you up on a board....

Week 2/Day 1 - in the books.....3.5 miles in the 35 minutes today...on the treadmill.

I have never had so much running under my belt before I took to the streets to run in the Spring. I can't wait to see how it feels. Our sidewalks are almost clear!

On Tuesday I did 2.07 miles in 30 min on the treadmill with an average pace of 14.5 min mile. I am trying to work on my speed this time around.

yesterday I walked outside so I didn't have the treadmill but I was at the park on a track so I'd do the first 1/3 of the track walking and the jogged the rest and repeated.

I'm doing good for about 30 mins then I'm tuckered out and want to just walk the rest but I keep pushing thru believing it'll get better.

How's everoyne's week 2 going?

Hugs!
