Only 2.54 today. My body was sore and tired. I only went for 30 minutes instead of 35 because my legs were tired and hurting. I think it's the weather. There's 4 inches of snow on the ground. Everyone is cranky and tired, and I think my legs are as well.

Completed Week 2 Day 2 this morning - 3.02 miles in 35 minutes. Felt really good. I like the 4:1 intervals better than the 3:1 intervals. :)

Just did week 2 day 3. It was cold outside (for SoCal) so that made things a bit harder. I did 3.71 miles and am soooo close to getting that 10 minute mile that I can taste it!

sooo jealous of you and the 10 min mile range :) I am at 12 minutes with the walk/run thing - maybe 12.5 minutes. I hope I can get to 10 min before the 5k on 11/18. GO YOU - way to motivate!

So i went running and was tired of running around my complex, so I was going to run my 5k route. Well low and behold I took a wrong turn and ended up 3.88 miles out instead of right back where I started. Lucky for me though there was a nice man taking his trash out and I asked for directions and his wife offered him to give me a ride. Realy nice people with religious things in the front seat and had a daughter or maybe a grand daughter not sure and I thank them. I mapped out what my rooute would have been if I had to keep going and I would have ended up going over 6 1/2 miles to get home. It was entertaiing...next tme I'll drive the route first lol. Probably would have ran further if I did'nt take that wrong turn oh well

Week 2, Day 3: 9 days after the original plan, due to injury. 8 cycles of walk 1, run 4 for a total of 40 minutes covering 4.84 miles. This is slower than I did W2, D2; but I deliberately slowed down toward the end of cycle 3 to avoid aggravating my still recovering right calf.

Just got home from doing Week 2 Day 3...did the full 40 minutes with 3.89 miles! Furthest I've gone so far, and the third fastest speed. Happy with that, especially given I took a different route and found myself on a few uphill sections! Great fun though. Shower and dinner time now emoticon

Completed Week 2 Day 2 on Wednesday night: did 3.27miles in the 35 minutes. Very proud of myself. It was faster than W2 D1 at least.
Doing W3 D3 tonight...looking forward to it, but I did LOADS of exercise last night so I'm slightly sore today, especially my left calf. But I am going to push through. Just need to remember it's about getting through the time, not always trying to beat my distance.
ALSO, another break-through: cos it was so late when I ran on Wednesday, I couldn't run in the park (cos it was pitch black) so I actually ran on the streets! Madness! I hate people seeing me run, so that was a big thing for me. I actually enjoyed it much much more than running around in circles.

Week 2, Day 3, one week later:

It took a full week for that silly calf to feel good enough to try running again. The two legs still didn't feel quite symmetrical, so I limited myself to a 5K route with no hills. On the walk 1/run 4 protocol, I covered 3.11 miles in 24:57.

Assuming that my calves feel normal tomorrow, I'll try for the full 35 or 40 minutes on Saturday. I'll decide whether it's 7 cycles or 8 based on how I'm feeling during cycles 6 and 7.

Week 2 Day 1: I managed to do the whole 35 minutes and ran 3.27 miles. I'm VERY proud of myself, even though it was slower than my last run. To be honest, I was struggling from the first set of 1/4...but I refused to give up. And I made it. It helped that there was another guy running in the park too, and I didn't want him to see me give up lol Whatever motivation you can get eh! I'll take it.
Hoping it gets a bit easier. Thankfully I've got tomorrow and Tuesday off from running. Gonna go swimming tomorrow, and then to the gym on Tuesday.
I can't believe this is actually me running outdoors! This is mental to me. I absolutely hated outdoor running. I really think I'm going to learn to love it. This was only my 4th run, and already I'm seeing results, in my fitness and in my body. At this rate, by week 5 I'm gonna be looking smoking! emoticon

Week 2, Day 3 - I crapped out. Got a cramp in my right calf at 17 minutes, one lousy minute into the 4th running segment. I think I might not have been adequately hydrated. I'd gone 2.36 miles at that point, and had to walk 1.35 miles to get home.

I'll give it another try on Saturday.

Week 2, Day 2: 35 minutes, 4.23 miles

It was a little surprising to land on exactly the same distance as W2, D1. But it was a different route. This one had more up and down hill running.

Week 2, Day 1: 35 minutes, 4.32 miles

Since I was doing a 5.2 mile route, I walked the rest of the way home in 13 minutes. I was a bit surprised to find I'd kept up a 4 mph pace walking after the training; it felt more like about 3.8 mph.

Completed W2D1 yesterday and with a 3 minute warm up and cool down (41 minutes) I came in at 3.3 miles. A bit over the 5K mark thanks to my warm up and cool down. It felt really good and I enjoyed the extra minute of jogging that was added. I look forward to the day I can jog the entire 5k without walking!

Enjoyed the extra interval today. My run was more sluggish but it is much warmer and quite humid today so that wasn't a surprise. I did 3.25 in 41 minutes with a nice cool down walk at the end.

W2D3 finished.....Week #2 DONE!!!
My breathing is much easier now; think I am getting used to our elevation. My legs didnt start feeling heavy until the last interval. I'm 'guesstimating' I did 3.1 in around 38 minutes. I had 3.25 in the 40 minutes. I know my mile and half mile point, but I guess at the quarter and three-quarter. I always try to sprint the last minute of each interval. I did feel stronger today. emoticon emoticon

WK2D2: Had a great run! Felt much harder but I was really trying to up my pace. Finished the 3 miles in just 36:50 (Claudia -we should running together emoticon )

This reminds me of a pet peeve I have with the fitness tracker. Just came in from an awesome run feeling pretty good about it and I log my time and my tracker shows WALK 13min emoticon . Gee, Spark People thanks for making me feel like a slow poke. Thank goodness I have my Garmin and was able to see that my running laps were anywhere from a 9 minute pace(obviously my downhill at the beggining of the run) to an 11 minute pace (the uphill at the end of the run). Go out and do any half marathon and I guarantee the largest percentage of runners will fall in that area and we are pretty sure what we are doing is running not jogging and definitely not walking.

W2D2 done! My breathing felt much better today. I had a good run; the last interval is where I really felt it; my legs were very heavy, and I wanted to walk, but made the decision, 'ONLY IF I FALL' will I walk.
At 35 minutes, I guesstimate I was at 2.85 miles, then kept walking to the 3 mile point, at 37:45. I consider this day a small victory; I woke up late and ALMOST didnt run, but knew if I didnt, I would regret it. Thank goodness I did! emoticon

Claudia - altitude can definitely take a toll on you, especially if it's recently warmer than usual. The body needs 10-14 days to acclimate to increases in heat and humidity.

And 1,000 calories is not enough! You definitely will not have enough juice for a good run on only 1,000 cals.

Well, W2D1 done! I seem to be very winded, making it hard to breathe easy, the last two running days. It normally takes me half mile to warm up to where my legs feel nice and loose, but my breathing is still very difficult...think it's our elevation here; 4200 ft.

I ran about 2.8 miles in my 35 minutes. Actually in thinking about it, I'm not sure that where I am running is the mileage that I originally thought. I'm gonna have to try and measure it, or go run on a set measured course, where I can figure out my run times. I normally run half mile in 5 minutes, 1 mile in 10 minutes. But here lately, I seem to be slower; 12 minute mile. Hopefully, it's that I have my course "guess" measured wrong. I dont think the elevation is affecting me THAT much....over the summer, I was running same distance and time that I normally had been doing.

I think one thing, may be that I'm not "fueling" myself enough. I'm eating probably around 1000 cals and only dropping .2 of a lb each week. So I'm gonna try eating more....and of course, continuing with the water, water, water!!!

Well, I mapped my route using SP Fitness maps and YEP! my mileage is correct. My route is 1 mile x 3=3 miles. I know for sure the half mile and mile point, and I 'guesstimate' the other points. So I guess I just need to increase my endurance:) I know that I need to eat more calories, as that may very well be a part of the problem. My water consumption is GREAT....pee every 20-30 minutes:) :) :)

I just finished Week 2 this morning. My knees were twingy before I started, probably because of the abrupt changes in weather we have been having. I pushed myself to finish today anyway, doing 3.15 miles in the 40 minutes. I iced my knees afterward, but I can feel that I will need ice again throughout the day. I'm going to take two days off before running again--hopefully that will be enough.

Did Week 2 Day 1 yesterday. I'm basically following the guidelines for this program, but pushing myself a little harder if I can. I ran the 3K distance in 43:46, which is a good run for me. But I woke up today with a very sore thigh. Sigh. Hope I can run on Wednesday!!! (But I won't if it's still sore, I won't push it.)

Really tired week. Pushed myself to hit the 2-mile mark, high school track, but in 40 minutes fell short. thought I was getting enough rest. Maybe it wasn't 'quality' rest. Week 3 ahead, will be pushing for the 2 mile mark.

Crossed the finish line of week 2. My speed is not lightning pace but I feel good. We'll see how I feel in the morning. I am optimistic that once I get away from the closk, I will turn it on. I'm just making sure that I'm eating good fuel!

emoticon Just finished week 2! I can tell I'm getting stronger. This run was easier than the previous two this week, even though my legs were sore from yesterday's workout AND I upped my speed a couple of notches.

emoticon Way to go, everyone!

I finished week 2 yesterday, although I realized that I haven't been doing the right number of intervals - oops! Next week, which is a repeat of week 2 from the looks of it, will have the appropriate 8 repetitions.

Thanks for all the support this week!

I started week 2 today and let me just say... DANG! The first days of the new weeks always get me (I did the walk/run program before trying the running). As tough as it was, it was an encouragement knowing that, just like the other training days, it will get easier! For now, though, I'm glad I've got the rest of today and tomorrow to rest!

Aw, thanks for the support! I guess I'm just used to beating myself up and giving up if I can't do it right, the first time. I was a bit of an over-achiever in the old days! ;) I'll just try my best and let you all know it how goes! The best thing is, I've roped my mother into walking while I'm running, which will definitely help her lose some of her excess weight!

You can definitely repeat a week, several times, if need be. The goal is to get fit and comfortable with the program. Hopefully, you'll be a lifelong runner, so no need to rush things!

If you don't feel comfortable moving on, don't move on. No shame! This isn't easy! Take the time you need; you'll finish and feel great, rather than give up and feel frustrated.

Hi everyone! It's my first time posting on this board, so, nice to meet you all. :)

I tried doing W2D1 this morning and nearly died, haha. I didn't have too much trouble with Week 1, but I'm ridiculously unfit - I managed the first three 1/4 intervals, and then just had to go back to a couple of 1/3s before keeling over. I think part of it is to do with the fact that I didn't eat properly before running (only had a pot of nonfat yog), but also the fact that I'm just not ready for it!

I thinking of scrapping today's workout, and just doing 1/3 x 8 on Weds, Fri and Sun, before moving onto Week 2 next week. How does that sound?

Thanks, Krystie. I had downloaded an interval app for my phone, and I missed the second walking nudge, so I ended up running 9 minutes at one point, hehe. I finished C25K last year, but I wanted to do Spark's program to train for my 5K in May.

Ditto - I didn't feel like it either, but I went for it and did it.

We're having 35 mph winds, so it was a bit more effort than before. I did a warm up and cool down, plus the intervals, in 45 minutes - 2.7 miles.

We can do it!

I agree with Sharon, sometimes you really just don't want to but as soon as your feet hit that pavement you feel so much better and then just sitting around the house, especially when you're done the sense of accomplishment is so amazing!!!

Never stop! Keep trying!!

Hills are fine, especially if you encounter them regularly in your runs. You want to be cautious not to overdo them. I was referring to specific hill workouts, for example a lot of people like to do hill repeats, where they run over a hill 5 or 6 times in a workout. But if you are just running and encounter hills, it's perfectly fine to tackle them. If you find them particularly strenuous, try to alternate with a flatter course.

Repeating week 2 today. Didn't feel I should move on because I'm trying to avoid shin splints.

So no hills the first year? I'm planning on running a 5k in September for the 2nd Wind Fund (teenage suicide prevention) with my daughter who lost a friend this year. I do know there are a couple of hills. Thoughts?
