Yeah- that was a statement not well thought out on my part:) I figured that one out as I was falling asleep last night...duh... Thanks. Good luck on race day!

I don't think the intervals are intended to equal a 5k at first. It depends on how fast you go. If you have an 8 minute mile and I have a 12 minute mile you will travel a further distance during the running intervals.

Congrats on W1D1. I'm on W3D1 and it's still kicking my butt but I feel great. Three weeks until race day (I gave myself a sixth week, just in case)

Just completed W1D1. Not feeling too bad... Now! I got a massive cramp in my ribs right towards The end- could not keep running thru:(
Walked thru it and then finished out running. I may have missed it somewhere but does
the interval distances equal a 5K right at the beginning?

OOPS! I entered it on the fitness tracker for Monday and Wednesday. After doing that, I found where to enter the miles for Monday and Wednesday..So can I go back and delete my Monday, Wednesday fitness tracker? Or should my calories burned and minutes of fitness just be off for the week?
On Wednesday, I did the workout and then walked on the treadmill until the hour was up. I did a five minute warm-up, then the 32 minute workout, then a give minute cool down, by then it was already almost 45 minutes and something good was on the tv. So I just continue to watch the tv until the hour was up...

Did you receive a Week 1 email? There should be a link there to track your training runs. It's an interactive calendar. If you don't log them there you won't get the 5k trophy when you finish. Once you track it on the calendar it will automatically add it to your fitness tracker.

Just found this team. I have been slowly returning to running this summer. I am going to try Week One this week. Last week, I did walk 4 minutes, run 2 minutes. Today, I did walk 3 minutes, run 3 minutes. So I think I might be ready to jump into this training program.

Have been on Spark for 3 years. Looking forward to getting to meet new people!

I hope. It's still not easy, not by a long shot, to run the entire 5k but I"m no good at watcing the clock and knowing when to run and whento walk in intervals so I just run for broke. I think I may be obsessed with running... that happened fast.

Just ran (what I think is) the 5k course I plan to do in September. Did it in 33:13 minutes, which is a respectible (for me) 10:43 min/mi. I then had to make the 3.1 mile return trip to my car. I walked the firt two minutes, then ran three, walked one, ran four, walked six, ran ten, then walked 15 back to my car.

The total outting was 6.2 miles in 75 minutes (50 running, 25 walking). I'm feeling really good right now.

Got the great news this morning that a friend is going to come up from Cincinnati to race with me!

Had a great run yesterday. Easily my longest fastest run ever. 3.35 miles in 34 minutes. Today is a strength day for me, did core and lower body. My shoulder is hurting (no idea why) so I'm leaving upper body for tomorrow along with a run on (what I think is) my 5k route that I have signed up for in September. I hope I can go the distance again tomorrow.

I "think" I think I'll be on W1D3 tomorrow. I say "think" because I didn't follow the program exactly on Days 1 & 2. I bought some kind of interval timer at the running store on Wed; planning to use it in the AM.

If I can complete W1D3 and follow the program exactly, then I'll give myself credit for Days 1 & 2. If I can't complete it, then I'm going to start over with Day 1 again. I'm determined - if nothing else! :)

EDIT 8/12...okay...I completed Day 3 with no issues...I'm officially moving on to Week 2!

Week 1 Day 5---10k training.

Today my mind set was 60 minutes, I completed that and enjoyed the results. A moderate 30 minute bike ride to cool down and some upper body, I keep forgetting how important the strength training is.

Tomorow I'm meeting up with a first class runner and I'll see if I can keep up with her, she is awesome.

Today was a rest day for me. I only did the Coach Nicole Seated Resistance Band video, which I love, tomorrow is W1D2 for me. I hope to run almost 30 minutes already (althought it will not be 3.1 miles.) On Sunday (before I oficially started this program) I was able to run for 23 minutes and yesterday I did 27, so I hope for another successful run. After that I just walk for 1 and run for 3 until I hit the time mark.

I drove to the location of my race with the intention of trying the course but it didn't work out. I went straight from work and the trail head/start line does not have a restroom or any place to change, plus there were a lot of kids out in the neighborhood and I was a little nervous leaving my purse and gym bag in the car unattended for that long (okay I also have the horrible habit of leaving my car unlocked with the keys in it... I usually run in a very safe neighborhood.) Maybe on Saturday I'll check out the course.

Hope everyone else had a great run today.

Week 1 Day 4 10k

Today was a no running cross training day for me so I cut my run in half. I started off on an upright stationary bike for 30 minutes. Then I ran a fast pace( for me) 5k and finished up okay timed out at 25.46. I thought I would do better.
To cool down I jumped on a recumbent bike for 60 minutes at a moderate pace. All in all a good training day.

Stulertoni,

What a great story, your right on you finished ahead of everyone who did not compete, spectacular!!!!

Week 1 Day 3 10k run.

Today an indoor run I'm trying to follow the guidelines provided by spark for endurance. My objective was to run a few seconds faster then my last 10k that did not happen. I actually increased my time by 13 seconds. It was a good run I did finish , lets see what happens when race day gets here on Sunday.

Last weekend I signed up for an impromptu 5k (mt first) where I turned in an almost dead last 36:43 minute time. If I wasn't so thirsty I would have ran right past the finish line to my car and drove home to cry. I stuck around for the awards and sure enough when they got to "Women's 25-29" who's name did they call for first place. That's right I won a 1st place ribbon on my first race. Okay, I was also last place in my age group. I was the only Women 25-29 who ran it. At first I felt embarrassed to accept a ribbon that was won by default but then I began to feel proud. I had just done something that no other Women 25-29 in my area even had the guts to try. That night I looked up some actual training plans, found one that would work for my running style and then woke up Sunday morning to start actually training, putting in a solid 2.3 miles in 24 minutes. Later that night I found a less competitive, flat terrain fun 5k run/walk that is on September 17th. My goal is to run the entire course and finish in 33 minutes or less. Good luck everyone. W1D2 of my training is tonight.

Week 1 Day 2

Way to go k-shin, you are on the mark!! You will be able to complete this challenge before you know it.
SueTea, congratulations to you also, hill & mountain running/ walking are really tough.

Today I did some cross training that included 30 Minutes on an elliptical machine at the hill intervals--30 minutes of moderate biking---30 minutes of jogging/walking/sprinting. Sparks suggests running three times a week on alternate days . Lets see what day 3 brings.
Keep on Trucking!!

First day of training for my first 5k. Ugh. So difficult. I know I can walk/run 5k but I've never done a race before and I've never been able to run the whole way. Usually just power walking with a bit of jogging thrown in. So my goal is to try to run the whole mayor at least as much of it as I can even if that means jogging really slowly the whole way.

Don't give up! Good luck everyone!

Oooh - good luck with your 10k Yanks!

I have just done wekk 1, day 1. Tick! I enjoyed the challenge, but ended up way out of breath on more than one occassion! One of the pitfalls of living in the Devon countryside is the hills - I can't avoid them! I did try to ignore them though, just went by my watch and ran when it was time to run, walked when it was time to walk. Phew!

Hi Folks,

Today I decided to train for a 10k, I've run this distance before but I have never challenged myself to improving my time. I'm going to be at it for a 4 week period , today was day one for me and I timed out at a respectable ( for me) 56.40. Back in April I was challenged by the 5k distance I still am however, I am sure that I can with your support finish up this particular challenge.

Keep up the great effort!!!!!

Today was week one day one for me. I want to do this program because I want to be able to jog continuously and do a 5k. I am used to running in intervals (or so I thought), but today kicked my butt. It didn't help that the time I could fit it in today was while it was still 92 degrees. Hopefully more practice and a cooler time will help me do better. Looking forward to completing this program.

Started over...week 1, day 1.

I'm drenched in sweat.

My daughter is taking a summer course called Wellness through Movement. She was telling me that they did some elliptical challenge workout and the instructor gave bonus points to anyone who sweat enough to leave drops (or puddles) on the floor. None of the girls in the class got the bonus points. All of the guys did. I would have today from this workout! :)

I just did day one of week one this morning and I couldn't get over what a difference it makes to have the walk portion reduced by a minute but I did it and I'm looking forward to day 2!

When you do your training for week 1, come by this thread and tell us about your accomplishments for the day.

(Example )
How far did you walk?
How did you feel on the day you did it?
Or anything else you want to talk about for your 5k training for week 1

Lets support one another and cheer each other on.
