I'm in week 2 - supposed to be in week 3, but I had the flu knock me back a week. Registered for my first 5k! It's in May. I love having a goal to be motivated for, and I'm happy to be running again!

Great Job Cheryl - I do a walk/jog on the treadmill about once a week then outside at least twice a week :)

Hi all.
I'm just waiting for the weather to warm up so I can get back out for a run. I've tried the treadmill but I just don't like it. Give me my first warmish and dry day and I'll be out there!! lol
I'm surprised, but pleased, that I want to get back to it after the winters break.

I went for a short run/walk yesterday and it was great!!
I couldn't go for too long as I'm recovering from an allergic reaction and my breathing is a little restricted. If the weather stays like it is I might be able to get out next weekend again. :)

I have continued to walk, bike, and last night, decided to do some extra work to get rid of the Thanksgiving treats. I started walking fast varying my speed for the first 3/4 mile, then started a slow run/jog, 5.2 mph, and was able to maintain that for 3.15 miles, then did a .1 mile cool down. I did 4 miles in 48 minutes. This was actually the longest sustained run/jog I have done. I am looking forward to continuing and gradually increasing the speed. My goal will be to be able to sustain a 6 mph run.

Yes, I am still running. I have grown to actually like running and the feeling of accomplishment. I have not done an official race yet, but hope to next spring. Tonigh, on my treadmill t I did 4 miles in 41 miles, and that inlcuded a three minute warm-up. I have really improved.

And whatever you do or say, do it as a representative of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks through him to God the Father. Colossians 3:17

I'm trying to keep at it but because it gets dark so early now, it's a challenge. I could do it on the treadmill but I really dislike the machines. I'm contemplating doing the next 5k program so I'll keep going with it but I can really only do one run on the weekends so I'm not sure if there's much use starting it now or leave it for spring.

I did it! I finally got the courage to start walk/running and I fell so deeply in love with the running part that I can't imagine not doing it. I still have 1 week left in my training plan but I have worked myself up to being able to complete a 5k jogging 100% of the way. I wish I did this 10 years ago -better late than never!
Good luck to everanyone just starting!

Yup - still running! My plan was to keep training up to the Trick or Treat Trot, but I think that now running has become part of my total exercise plan. My old walks have now become run/walks. And I really do like the extra calorie burn you get from a run. I'm still waiting on those endorphins, however - no "runner's high" for me yet...

Not at this time. I tried and thought I did fair the first two weeks. After that I could not get moving without pain in my knees and right foot. Got new shoes and the knees feel better! Took a few walks only to find foot pain and numbness no better.
Made appt to find out what is going on. Meanwhile, I am glad I originally signed up for the Virtual Walk! It may take me an hour + to get my first 5 k down but I still have plans to walk!
There are no runs for that day around here so decided to just mark my own course in the neighborhood. emoticon

I have not failed. I am simply finding my limitations and will work to learn from them !
Still taking one day at a time!

Please do start the program again. WIth running, you need to be persistent, patient and consistent. Three days of running per week is all you need and eventually you will start to crave your runs. Happy running!

I've been trying to incorporate some running/jogging into my overall cardio regime. Back in the spring I started the 5 week training program with some success, clocking around 45 minutes starting out, down to about 40 minutes by the end of the 5 weeks. My goal was to break 30 minutes. I continued to run about once a month through the summer and finally was able to crack 30 minutes just this week - 29:52 on 10/18/11. I may try to restart the training plan once again and see if I can get closer to 25 minutes. emoticon
