Saturday was race day--my first 5K at 56 yrs old! I felt very proud of this accomplishment and I jogged most of the way. Slow but sure! My time was 41:33. I will work at improving my time next time but just feel very good to have accomplished this goal.

Friday was race day and I am proud of the fact that I jogged about 90 percent of the 5K....I would like to try another in the near future. It's amazing what you can do if you set your mind to it! Happy Mother's Day everyone!

Friday was my most recent 5K. I believe I jogged more than walked it... and I am slowly but surely working my way up to being able to jog a whole mile.
My time was 42:39.4.

Completed my virtual 5K in 40 min. 17 sec. doing a combination of jogging/walking. I will be participating in a 5K on 05/25/13 and will post those results also. (I have participated in 5Ks in the past, but walked only.) Not sure exactly how to proceed with my training but will just continue trying to increase my jogging time until I am able to jog the entire 3.1 miles. This was my 2nd attempt at this challenge and happy to say this time I was able to stay focused and finish!

I ran my 5K this morning and I did it in 48 minutes 14 seconds. Not a great time but good for someone who does not run. haha! I am planning on doing it again and seeing if I can cut a few minutes off my time. Love this challenge!

I did my first 5K yesterday, it was a trail race, with an elevation change of 1000ft, and we even had to do some climbing on rocks, actually a lot of rocks. The Menan Butte Trail Challenge is rated the hardest trail race in Idaho. I finished 18th out of 22 in the 5K entries with a time of 1:00:28.91. Didn't think that was too bad considering the issue I am having with my hip and the steepness of the trail in areas and the rocks. My husband and I are going to do it again next year, and I am currently looking for another 5K race for the month of May.

I ran my first 5k yesterday with a time of 36:24 and placed 16th in my age group. It was AMAZING and I cant wait to do another one. My goal was not to stop and walk, which I was able to do by keeping a good steady pace of jogging. I had my doubts that I would never be able to jog for a whole 3 miles, well NOT anymore! Who knows maybe some day I will run a 1/2 marathon.

I ran my very first official 5k yesterday and finished in 41:33.3. I came in 35th in my age group and 676 overall! I've only ever run a 5k on my treadmill and it would take me 50 minutes, so I was very proud of myself. I thought it would be harder to run outside on pavement but it was actually easier, and I know the encouragement of fellow runners really helped. Next stop.....a 10k!

I just did my walk/jog 5K in 41 minutes. I walked 2mins and jogged 3mins - with probably a few seconds extra walking between each set to re-set my timer! I felt very weary going uphill and free as a bird downhill!
I have signed up for a charity 5k in May - so am looking forward to moving on to being able to jog the whole 5K, and then to jog/run intervals.
I am so glad I started this programme - I am loving 'running'!

I ran my virtual 5K today in 49:19. That may not seem like a good time for some, but for me I was well pleased. I am 67 years old and had not run in several years. This was my second time to go through the program, because I really needed to build up my stamina. This is something I would never have done on my own. Thank you SP.

I did something today I have never done. I ran my first 5k. I am officially addicted. So awesome to see what this ole bod can do! Thanks SPARKPEOPLE!!!!!!!!
I realy didn't think I could do it and when the 3.1 mark was approaching I was supposed to gear down to a walk but I ran all the way to the finish just to show myself I wasn't toasted yet!

We were age group placers! My spouse and I were both were 3rd place in the 50-54 age group. This was only the 2nd time he had run 3 miles. We both did it in just over 31 minutes, except that were got our timing chips confused and he has my official time and I have his. Oh well, what's 10 seconds between spouses!

I completed a 10K--my local Turkey Trot--Thanksgiving morning. I was striving to do it in under 2 hours and I beat my goal by 15 minutes finishing in 1:45:45.
It felt GREAT!

I've never entered an official 5K yet, and I don't know when I'm going to get around to it. However, I'm currently walking 4 miles, 6-7 times a week. I seem to be stuck on a 21-minute mile (19 if it's cold and windy), and I've decided that I'm ok with that. I've decided that I'd rather walk longer, rather than faster. And running? Not unless something big and ugly is running after me.

I finished my first 5k (virtual 5k that is) on Thanksgiving moring. My official time was 49:52, which I thought was pretty good until I read other finish times. Now I need to step it up a bit....quite a bit. I'm starting another training program tomorrow and in 5 weeks I'll be posting a new and improved finish time. Woo hoo, wish me luck!!!!!

First official 5K in 34:16 in the Marathon to Marathon race weekend in Marathon, TX. They had 5K, 10K, 1/2, and Marathon runners. My 23 year old daughter ran with me stride for stride and slowed so that I would finish before she did.
Ended up 1st in my gender/age division; 17th out of 70+ participants. Thank you SP for inspiring me to get ready for my first 5K at age 57.....who would have thought it could happen????
I should mention that I did my first virtual 5K LAST YEAR in 43 minutes+ and decided to get serious about training during the summer as I was staring a real 5K in the face. I downloaded RunKeeper, a free ap for my i-phone that really helped. It keeps track of a lot of info for me.

I went the full distance as best as I could (really gave it my all) two weeks ago today. My time was 40:17. I got really bad shin splints and the last mile almost had me in tears. Then I went on vacation to Orlando to visit family friends and we walked about 4-6 miles/day. I haven't run in two weeks because my legs still haven't fully recovered. They still ache today as I walk around at work a bit, but they are no longer actually painful. I don't know if I can could that as my time, but if I could, I would. It's a personal best and I'm proud of it. I've never done anything like this before and I plan to make walking/jogging as a permanent part of my fitness as soon as my shins no longer ache.

I did some research on what to do to get my time down and I am going to do fartleks (google the term if you haven't hear of it-it's pretty cool). I realize I need to push myself and really see what I can do so this should help. I am going to do fartleks on the treadmill first (to get used to it) and then outside. I have signed up for another race in January so I have something else to train for!
I will never give up!

Wow-reading everybody else's report makes me feel so slow. I did my first 5k yesterday and my goal was to finish in 45 minutes or less. I passed the finish line at 48:58. I really want to do better and I wish I had pushed myself more and/or trained more outside in advance. Oh well-at least I got this one out the way.

I completed two 5K races within the last month thanks to my sister! We ran both of them together. We completed our first race on September 22 in 45 minutes and our second race on October 14 in 40 minutes. That's pretty impressive to me considering it was the first time either one of us have done road races - she's 47 and I'm 50...better late than never! We are planning our next 5K for November-December.
Plant seeds of expectation in your mind; cultivate thoughts that anticipate achievement. Believe in yourself as being capable of overcoming all obstacles and weaknesses.

My time was 48:52. It is my first 5K and I am amazed I got this far.

Great Kristin. I completed my 5K race yesterday. I did it on 38.2 and that surprised because up until yesterday and since I started the training about 2 months, I was not able to run a whole mile without a few walking intervals. Yesterday, I only took three walking intervals at about a minute each. I feel great and motivated to keep running.

Completed the Firefly in Atlanta on Saturday night. Was advertised as a good course for beginners - mostly flat. I don't know what their idea of flat is - but this course was NOT! My mom struggled, but was able to finish with a little ride help up one of the hills. Definately not my PB, as I did backtrack a bunch to stay with my mom. So unorganized, we were at the tail end of the racers, and there was NO Water until half way thru, no miles posted, no water or bannanas or granola bars saved for those at the end. Very dissapointing! But all in all, I had fun with my mom and my neice and we all finished (although if you check the results, I didn't).

I had two races scheduled. First one was today. The Pink Walk for Breast Cancer. I walked/jogged it. It was cold and miserable, but I did it! I did 3.19 miles in 47 minutes. I was at 45 minutes at 3.1. My second and final one at this time is October 23. I'll keep training until then and report when I do that one. Cindi

I completed my first 5k yesterday. The weather was beautiful and the race trail was fairly flat. I'm happy with finish time of 32.49. I'm so excited about these that I enteted another one in two weeks.

I walked the 3.1, some of it was up hill, time was 47.28
Gotta get new shoes and next time I will attempt to run some of it. I can tell my shoes are toast as when I run some my hips and ankles give me fits for several days, but walking is working so I am all good :)

One minute before the start of my 5K yesterday was to begin, the sky opened and the rain began! For the 1st mile, the driving rain and wind pelted us. It let up a little for the remainder of the race. No great time, but I managed a 45:15 as I walked the entire race. Hoping for better race weather at my next opportunity.

37:00 This was my first virtual 5k walk run. What should the next goal be? Should I work on speed? Decreasing the amount of walking? Thoughts?

I did my 5k today but I was not planning on it. I tried to register in a local 5K race but I couldn't. The pay was rejected. Maybe it was too late, I got up today and after running yesterday, I was not sure if I should run today. I made up my mind to run so I could try my new snickers. It turned that they seem small for 10.5 and because the company don't allow take them if they are used (stupid) I wore my old pair. I did great. There was less humidity and I felt much better than yesterday. I ran did intervals of 2 minutes walking and 4 minutes running until I completed 45 minutes. I did 5 minutes running in one of the intervals. I feel great. Now I want to see if I can find local 5 k races for the next few weeks.

I completed my first 5K of the year back on Aug. 4th. I jogged and walked it in 39:07. i was planning on finishing somewhere between 40 - 45 minutes, so I was stoked to make it under. Last year I walked this same 5k with a friend and we finished in 49 minutes, so it was nice to see this big improvement.
Congrats to all who set their sights on this challenge, be it virtual or an outdoor 5K challenge. You are doing great things, Keep it up!

I'm looking back at the month of August and had to stop in and shout! I'm lovin' it! Congratulations to everyone who crossed the finish line! You never forget your first! You stepped outta your comfort zone, and did your race. I sincerely hope everyone embraced the experience and are already planning on their next race! I love this team as it got me on the road! There are a lot more fun runs out there for great causes. You make a difference and you just get stronger in the process! I always get Sparked when I come in and read about all your successes.
