Thanks, Laurie. I don't even aspire to a half-marathon like you, but hopefully, I will get better at the little ones.

I won't be, for a while. I learned that this training plan is really a little too aggressive for me. I need to ramp up very slowly. So I willjust continue to work gradually on improving my stamina.

I completed Day 2 today. It went pretty good. I have been doing all of my training at the gym, and I plan on doing my 5k on Saturday at the gym also. I live in a rural area, and there really isn't anyplace to run. We have a vineyard and I tried running the rows, but the terrain is very uneven, and we even have some gopher holes.

Once you complete your 5k, do you just continue with the training and signing up for 5ks?

Yes, I did my virtual 5k race today since the events won't be until May and June but I wanted to start training early to get my body well conditioned.

Actually my pedometer messed up somewhat and I went the distance of 4.30 miles in 47 minutes, since I went back out later and briskly walked the dogs the same route with only half the distance since I did 2 full circuits.

I am SO HAPPY & PROUD of myself- I DID IT!

Even better, when I was out walking the dogs I had a neighbor stop their car to ask me just how much weight I have lost- which has been around 25 pounds but I am a 4'11" person so the extra weight on or off show quickly. Plus I dropped about 3 sizes and they've seen me as an avid walker for years.
I did my best to pass on the Spark and told them about SparkPeople and to check the site out- I know it all goes to how committed a person is to change and live a healthy lifestyle so who knows. One thing is they see me at it daily so maybe it will inspire someone close by to make a similar change.

I do have neighbors cheer me on when they see me out walking or doing my interval training and its good be be recognized for my hard consistent work.

This week I start up my local SP team walking group and hope we can get it to work and be consistent. I am also checking with the elementary school for someone to carpool with on April 16th to Wilmington, NC for the ALS Walk event. The school's vice principal's husband has just been diagnosised with this incurable disease and I want to do my part to show support and get my fitness in at the same time.

So, onward to new challenges- emoticon so much for the support and guidance to believe in myself and face another challenge and claim a victory!

I am going to stick to the interval training 3 times a week to see how I improve and to be in shape for the upcoming events.

The rest who are taking this challenge on - DON"T GIVE UP, work at your own pace and rejoice in every workout you complete- YOU CAN DO THIS.

The important thing is you still worked out. Do you do your 5k training at a gym? I just run my road which is thankfully pretty quiet when I choose my training times.

Tomorrow is race day for me.

I sabotaged myself this morning. I was all hyped to try the day 2 and if I felt I couldn't at least repeat day 1, but as I was driving to the gym, I realized that I was just running on empty! I made it through 35 minutes on the treadmill, and I did do running intervals, but it was somewhere between the two days but not either of them...I will try again Tuesday and try to remember that I need some fuel!

Okay, maybe I just don't know when to call it quits for the day- here goes my workouts for Friday:
walked dogs 1.19 miles in 19 minutes (lots of sniffing and marking going on, but I use it as my warm up) emoticon
Then I drank some water, did some stretching, strapped on the ipod shuffle and gymboss and out the door to start day 2 training. I made it through no problem with my pacing or intervals but only covered 2.83 miles in the 35 minutes (5 min. cooldown). Still the tracker said I was doing 12 min. a mile so I'll take it.emoticon
Came inside and did more stretching to follow up with:
Zumba Express dvd for 20 minutes of dance moves and sweat
Then SP strength training Back Shaping Wedding Dress workout with the resistance bands- more stretching
Then to end it I did my 20 min. dvd of yoga with Kathy Smith to get everything stretched out and my mind body control happening.

I thought I was done but then just finished up in the garden planting and weeding so tack on another 30-40 minutes there.

I am pooped out, and preparing to do some chilling. We've got gorgeous weather coming in and I know I've got to lay low tomorrow to be prepared for Sunday's race. Any suggestions on what I can do for activities tomorrow without over stressing my body to be in race shape?

Thanks, Suzy. I am definitely repeating day 1 tomorrow and see how I feel. And I am walking on Sunday instead of taking the day off so I am hoping to be ready to move on to day 2 on Tuesday and do the virtual 5K on Sunday of next week

Hi Tricia,
Pace yourself when doing day 2, which is what I will be doing today. I have been finding on the 2nd day each week I struggle somewhat maybe due to recovery period, I am not sure. This week due to the weather I gave myself 2 active rest days, but with rainy weather seem to be feeling more sore than normal in my legs. Today's plan is to walk the dogs, do some stretching then get outside and take on day 2 training. Afterwards when I cool down I will make sure I stretch and will pop in a yoga dvd to insure against any more soreness I hope. Race day for me is Sunday and I want to do well. Main thing is I am doing it and not letting excuses rule.

I did Day 1 today and I was so happy with how it went! I can't believe how worried I was...and how much easier this week was than last week. I really struggled with 2.5 minutes, but 3 minutes seemed so much easier...I hope that feeling keeps up!

Great job to all the rest of you! You're all doing so well!

Barbara, do what you feel is right for you and your pace before committing to the race.
I know when I've been doing my training I am getting the 5k distance in with the time plus my warm up and cooldown. I will see tomorrow how it goes with day 2, but am pretty determined to do my 5k virtual race day on Sunday. I want to nail this challenge to the wall and yell YES, I DID IT!emoticon

I sure hope the weather does a break for you MIRAGE727 so you can get that 5k race DONE. I fully understand, how you want it completed to fully enjoy the festival. We've got cold and rain here but no tornado warnings or lightning strikes. Tomorrow the sun is suppose to appear so I will be doing my day 2.

Ya know, I believe in me too but mother nature is really gettin' my last nerve!. The rain doesn't bother me but the thousands of lightning strikes and the occasional (there have been 3 so far) TORNADOES are crampin' my style! I'm either doing my 5K late tonight or very early in the morning. Then I have to get on the road. I'm spending the weekend at a Bed and Breakfast in Cedar Key (about 2 1/2 hours north of me ) for the Annual Arts Festival. I won't enjoy it until I get that 5K done!

emoticon MIRAGE727 and it seems you've got the backing of your doctor- emoticon

Today, will be indoor cardio once again and with better weather tomorrow I am taking on day 2. During my son's teacher's conference last evening I learned the vice principal has been absent due to her husband being diagnosised with ALS. The kids are trying to raise money for the family and the cause and have been walking lap/miles at school to show their support- AMAZING. I believe some of the teachers are going to an ALS fund raiser walk in Wilmington, NC on April 16th and I told my son's teacher if she will pick me up and let me ride along I MOST DEFINITELY want to do the event. I recently got my driver's license at the age of 43 and have only ventured in the small towns, my traffic busy town, and recently to New Bern. I have not worked up enough courage or self confidence to take on Wilmington due to it being heavily congested, quick paced driving, and totally unfamiliar set up of roadways.

Relay for Life is next weekend and yes, I will be walking to honor those I've lost to cancer and a hope for more successful research & a cure on the horizon.

Did a light 2 miles of cardio as I'm doing my final walk/jog 5K tomorrow. Then the real fun begins! The good news is that I went to my Dr today, talked about what I want to do after tomorrow, and she said, "Run!"

Well, we've got downpouring of rain for today and tomorrow so I opted to do elliptical training on today instead of my day 2 training to keep from injury and for safety since I've got dump trucks, logging trucks, and now big semis with mulch cargo travelling on my road.

The weather is supposed to be good on Friday and this weekend so I will take on day 2 training on Friday and my virtual 5k race on Sunday, I think.

I went for my annual exam today, and my long time doctor was thrilled to see how healthy I look now, the weight loss, and the positive changes I've made in my lifestyle. I told her I was training for a 5k and she was thrilled. The office said when I do races to let them know and they'd be there to cheer me on.

Okay, I got my elliptical training in and want to do some shape boxing also for cardio to keep my fitness level up but doing different activities in prep for the big race day.

This year I have fallen in love with running by the beach on Dunedin Causeway going to Honeymoon Island in Florida. One Sunday morning, I went out and a surprise rain came up on me. I made great time getting back to my car. I also noticed the rain really didn't bother me. In any case, I think it's a great effort to go through it! Good job!

Finished my 5th week of training. I do my 5K on Thursday! Then it's decision time!

First off let me say, all my life I have been known to "turtle" up when it starts to rain outside- I just plain do NOT do any exercise outdoors or venture out in the rain.

Well, guess what- today it is COLD, windy, and a steady light rain which looks plain miserable out, and to be honest is. Its also the start of my week 5 5k Your Way training and I've marked Monday as my day 1 training days. Time to suck it up and put my determination and belief in myself up front and center. I JUST RAN IN THE RAIN! emoticonemoticon

I cannot believe I just did such a thing- its unbelieveable. I layered up, put on my bright orange reflective vest, fleeced lined water resistant hooded coat and got myself out there. YES, I had to pep talk my way through each interval but I still did it and am so PROUD of myself.

The rest of the week is suppose to be cold but today was forecast as the worst of it, so I am moving forward, staying determined and knowing in my heart I can really do this thing.
Friday should be race day for me and I am going to get this challenge DONE!
