Starting week 3 tomorrow. Week 2 went great, hoping that will be true of this week as well. The only issue I've come across is that the running pace that feels the most natural to me is too fast to sustain the entire duration, therefore I have to pay attention the entire time I'm running to not run too fast. Any recommendations from others?

Week 3 went well. I have new running shoes that help a lot. I went to the runners store and had them check my gait and they gave me the perfect shoes. I had to stop in my 6th and 7th interval for a few seconds, but other than that all went well!

Suffered with abscessed tooth all weekend. But nice walk for and hour on Sun and Mon and a good 5k training walk jog on Tues , so still on track for my virtual race in a few weeks. stamina is improving all the time. Some weight loss but have had to move belt notch twice.

I think one day between workouts is not enough for me. My lower legs feel really beat up today, on the day after my 2nd workout of the week. It is more so than I felt after day 1. I'll try skipping two days between these workouts now.

I hope the shin splints had subsided. You can try to give it some rest and more importantly place some ice on it. Do not put the ice on your skin directly, when you are seated or asleep, try to lift is higher than you body i.e. elevate it.

Hi... If you're getting quite a bit of pain (I presume it's right at the front just above the foot), then stop attempting to jog/run and do some fast walking... If you STILL have pain with the walking, you may want to have it checked out... I used to get shin splints a lot many years ago and always tried to work through the pain but that didn't help... I found out that I was trying to do too much too fast, so try to take it easy for a while, go slow and steady, and you'll get to running a 5K in no time...

I'm struggling! I believe I have a shin splint on my right leg, even though I have warmed up and stretched properly every time I ran. And I even adjusted my pace to try and avoid this issue. I can't run 2 minutes yet. Maybe for ONE interval, but usually I have to slow down before I get to 2 minutes. I was super excited to finish 2 miles in under 15 min each last Friday. But then today the shin pain had me stopping after just 20 minutes. How long do I need to let this heal and should I just walk until it feels better? And, since I still wasn't up to a 2 min continuous run, do I keep repeating the same week until I can???

Finally!! Done with Week 3... DROVE to Hesperia Park, did .5 mile warm up then jogged (for the most part) 3.5 miles, 42 minutes... Did some walking at last 1/4 mile as cool down, then stretched by my truck.... On to Week 4! Thinking about doing a 5K race Mar. 8 down in San Bernardino...

After 5 days of feeling ill, went out this morning before church, did Week 3 Day 2 of walk/jog training... Walked 1.5 miles to track, 24 min.... At track walked half lap, jogged two 13X, 3.25 miles, 41 min... Walked back home, 1.5 miles, 24 min... Total 6.25 miles, 1 hour 59 min...

Week 3 Day 1 - Not sure how I would manage the 2 mins jog since last week it seemed like I was really watching the clock for the 1 1/2 run to end. Surprisingly this morning wasn't too bad. The last 2 min. jog was the hardest - really had to push it through. Legs little sore now. Question - I'm jogging at a 4.6 speed. Should I be running faster?

Tomorrow, I will finish week 3. I am doing pretty well, but my knees really bother me after the third 2 min. jog. I'm still working on how my foot strikes the ground to give me the least amount of impact. I also wear a band to support my knee. I am determined to get this done! emoticon emoticon

Thank you so much. I don't want to quit and I am pushing myself to do more than just walk. I know I have to keep moving and I have been icing my knee because it is always swollen and some days much more painful than others. Right now, I feel like it is an uphill battle,but, I'm not giving up. I may not be doing the required number of jogging minutes, but I keep pushing.

Welcome to week three Cynthia.

Yes you can do power walk if jogging is tiresome for you and you are not strong enough to complete the minutes. But if the program says "run 2 min" you can jog 30 secs and power walk the remaining and try to increase the min as the time goes by. I know you can do it and with your mind made up, you will definitely be on top of the game.

Thank you AEGISHOT and Ace. Those are great words of encouragement.

I was going to ask if I could power walk or do I have to actually be jogging for it to count. I am determined to enter a race. Today I can actually walk normally without really limping. Steps are still a bit of a problem, but that is what hand rails are for. Anyway, today is a walking day for me and I walked 2 miles. Sad to say it took me almost 40 minutes though. I really am working on speeding up that time because I don't want to take an hour to do a 5K!

Just remember some movement is better than no movement. Technically I'm on week 4 but I still have trouble with the "plan." I do what I can and remind myself that I'm doing better each day. emoticon emoticon emoticon
