I bought a pair of high quality compression sleeves and used them one day while running on the treadmill - it made all of my calf muscles burn but didn't help the shins much. I have another 5K coming up on the 15th, we'll see how that one goes.

Take Care,
Kathy

I wonder if running in compression sleeves would help?
I know they work wonders on my calves during my run and they help with recovery after.

I hear ya!
There are times when I get done with a run and think why bother....but then I think about all the benefits of running and I get out there and do it again.

Knock on wood though, I have never had to deal with shin splints.

Have you tried any of the above treatments?

Hey Suezette :)

Wow, great job on two marathons in two weeks. I bet you are exhausted. I've been having such a heck of a time with shin splints that it makes running very discouraging but then I have moments like that where there are no problems. I just don't get it.

Take Care,
Kathy

Awesome Kathy!!
I'm happy you are running again!!

I was in your neck of the woods today doing the Space Coast Marathon. I thought about giving you a call but I was so whooped after ward that I just wanted to get home! I ran 2 marathons in 2 weeks! Last weekend, I ran one in Charlotte NC that had so many hills I thought I was going to cry! Anyway, I did think about you today :)

I participated in the Suntree Turkey Trot 5K this morning.

suntreeturkeytrot.org/

I haven't really run in some time, unless you count the bits and spurts at last weekend's Run for Your Life event last weekend.

www.runforyourlives.com/

Considering I haven't trained and haven't really run in some time, I was quite proud of myself when I:

1) Jogged for 2 miles straight without stopping. I only stopped to walk at that point for water.

2) Finished in 38:51. That's quite a bit better from my very first 5K and actually came close to the last 5K I participated in when I was actually training.

I've also signed up for a Candy Cane 5K on the 15th. Hopefully my shins will be mostly healed by then so it won't hurt to run so much. They weren't excruciating today but definitely uncomfortable.

Take Care,
Kathy
