I did day 1 of week 6 this morning. For the first time I actually felt like a runner. It was very humid and when I got home, it looked like I had been out in the rain - but I couldn't have been any happier! I love this!
If it is to be, it is up to me!

I completed Week 6 day 2 today. The transition has been good and steady changes are very noticeable. I find it amazing I am running. From week 1 to week five I lost an inch off my bust, waist and hips. I cant see a big difference in the scales though.

Finished week 6 this morning. I wouldn't have believed it a few weeks ago, but I can definitely tell a difference in my endurance. We'll see how week 7 goes. Happy Friday Eve everyone!

I'm a little nervous about this transition mainly because week 5 was grueling for me. Here's hoping I can make it :D

Reading through this thread I'm glad I'm not the only person who's found Week 6 more of a challenge! At this stage I'm planning on repeating it too so I can build a bit more fitness and endurance before progressing to Week 7. I know it's good to be extended but I also want to feel a bit stronger about my current performance before ramping things up again.

This past week I needed to sit on the bleachers, stay on the sidelines or however you want to describe not being able to do anything related to a previous injury. I have hardware in my leg and it seriously needs to be taken out so I can do what I need to do to be a healthier person. I really thought I could overcome the pain or at least tolerate it while doing this routine that I stayed on track with. I guess we'll see what happens now.
I need to schedule a surgery to have this hardware out of my leg and I wanted to try finishing this 5K challenge before doing so...after this week I don't think I can hold out any longer.

Great thread. Just finished Week 5 (barely), and debating on repeating it. My ankle is sore as heck. Once my ankle heals, I'll give a Week 6 interval a try, and see how I feel on it. With Week 4 & 5, it seems like the 3 minutes were SO long where the 2 minutes went by fast. I hope I have the same success you guys are having.

Skiiny, if you have to repeat the week, do so. Its better to feel ready to move on, and have your body ready also, then to force something you may not be ready for in body and mind. Good luck and keep up the good work!

I have really struggled with week 6 - cannot seem to get there. I am going to repeat this week to build strength and confidence. It seems to be the cardio aspect - maybe it is in my head, I am not sure, but I believe another week is necessary and the healthy decision.
I am sure it is just a hurdle, one that I can overcome, and I am prepared to stay on the program.
Have a great day everyone!

At last I am moving on to week 7. I did week 6, day 3 again today to make sure I really am ready for week 7. Just for fun, when I came to the eighth rep I decided to see if I could run for 4 minutes instead of 3 and I DID it!! So now I am finally moving on.

Day 1 of Week 6 ... today was so much better than my 3 sessions of last week. Although I'm still much slower than I'd like to be. It seems my endurance levels have improved but my pace hasn't, since starting the running program. I guess that will come in time.

Awesome, Sondra! Way to get back in it & stick with it!
I'm just reporting in on my 1 mile race: I had a blast and finished in 15 min, which is okay for me. It was pretty warm and I lost DH in the confusion of the start, so I was slowing down and looking behind me for him several times - turns out he was in front of me! What a great way to spend a Sunday afternoon!

I completed day 3 today - finally!! I completed day 1 on October 11 and day 2 on October 13 and then I just sort of lost it. It has taken three tries to complete day 3 but the effort has been worth it. When I started out today I was SO worried that I still wouldn't make it all the way. But the weather was great and I really enjoyed the run! Even so, I have decided to repeat day 3, just to be sure that I'm really ready for week 7.

Hi Holly, it's funny you should post about that right now - I'm just reading up about running outside in cold weather and how to layer etc. I like the treadmill okay, and use it 3 days a week anyway on my ST days for walking and doing inclines, but I REALLY don't want to lose this great new discovery of running outside! It's rapidly become one of the great joys in my week, and I hope to be able to figure out how to keep going. The wind is vicious here in Wichita, but I'm going to try and take Lananc's advice and learn how to bundle up!
Week 6 tomorrow: good luck!!! You will do just fine, just keep moving and do your best! Let us know how it goes!

I start week 6 tomorrow.... so far I've been a little nervous as each week begins and it's been fine, so I guess I should stop being nervous. Walking for 1 minutes sound challenging.
River & Lananc1 - I'm with you both, I'd much rather run outside. However, it's getting so dark out so early, I'm not sure how much longer I can do it.
Last night when I got to the gym, I changed the fastest I've ever changed before so I could run outside. I park and change at the gym, then go for a run outside. There's this nice little park area up the street and tons of people run, walk, bring kids and dogs - such great things to look at. I left at 5:35 (ish) and got back around 6:15, when it was starting to get real dark. The park is far enough away that I can do a nice warm up and cool down too. I think I only have a few more weeks left of outside running during the week. Saturdays I will still be able to run outside during the day.

Bundle up River... cuz in my opinion, inside on a treadmill is horrible! I guess I just love the different things that occupy my mind when Im outside, from the view, to having to watch my footfalls, to finding a way to wipe my nose, all things that take my mind off of actually running! Anyone have tips on what to do when on treadmill? I plan on making a wall of my medals, bibs, etc to be able to view when on treadmill, at least that way I'll have a constant reminder as to why I am doing this! (besides losing weight!)

W6D1 done; I loved it! The minute of walking wasn't bad at all, and the 2 extra intervals felt good - I could have done at least one more but I held myself back and just walked extra since I had a really long hard workout yesterday, too... next time!
The worry I had about losing the extra minute of walking was unfounded, and maybe I'm finally getting it that my mind isn't as ready as my body, because I didn't psych myself out as much prior to this week like I did in week 4. Just closed off that voice and went out to run. NICE!
It is definitely getting colder ~ my eye was watering and nose was running, but it felt good once I got going... not sure how long before I have to take it inside Not looking forward to that

I will watch your week 7 blog but I will still be in week 6 for a while. On Saturday I should have run day 3 but I just didn't feel like doing it so I decided to just walk the route I had mapped out for the virtual race at the end of October. In the process of walking I did something to mess up my knee!!! The knee is better now but I feel very spooked. I am determined to do day 3 either today or tomorrow, but then, as I said before, I think I am going to stay with week 6 until I feel like I have really mastered it. Good luck with week 7. I will be cheering you on!!

the transition was okay for me, although 1 min walking intervals truly isnt enough time to recoup my running out of breath but the end of the 3 min jog interval... and next week we're supposed to go up to 4 min jog intervals?! yikes! i am going to give it a shot anyway and push it... i think its more of a mental thing to me anyway... we'll see how it goes!

Good luck. I think next week, although we up to 4 mins, we decrease the amount of times we do it one less time. Tthat might help you in the transition into next week, at least mentally! I have to do day 3 today, and for some reason I really am NOT looking forward to it.

Well, I completed day 2 of week 6 but I had a harder time with day 2 than I did with day 1 and I was really wiped out by the end of it. I am thinking that if day 3 is also very hard I will repeat week 6 even if I actually completed it. I would like to feel 100% confident that I have conquered week 6 before I move on to week 7. I will be going for day 3 on Saturday so we'll see how it goes.

You rock girl!! And think how much stronger you are because of those uphills. Now it's on to day 2, which I'm planning to do tomorrow (Thursday). After that we have one more day for week 6 and we can start stressing out over week 7.

WTG!! Walking up those hills will also help strengthen those legs! (I'm jealous of those of you who have hills to run/walk!)

ok, I did it and lived. The first three intervals were pretty good, but it seemed like every min walk break was uphill which didint allow me to recover too well! the last one was very difficult, but knowing it was the last got me through it! Still need to work on breathing, but I definately see improvement, On to day 2! Good luck everyone!

WTG KPETSCH and Sondra!!!! Suezette, thanks again for your continued support! I'll be heading out in about an hour here to complete my day one. No worries about completing it, just how I will feel doing it... thats what scares me!

I am thrilled to report that I actually made it all the way through day 1 of Week 6!!! I am really surprised that I was able to do it - and of couse now I'm thinking that I was just lucky and that I won't be able to do it again! But the fact is I DID do it today. WOOHOO!!

Mine went better than I expected. I have to give myself an extra day here or there before moving on to the next week (due to work schedules, sore heels, etc) and I was suprised that I was able to transition ok. I talk myself through each set (1/8 down, 1/4 down, 6 left, etc) and I'm able to make it all the way through. I've done 2 of the 3 on week 6 and it's week 7 that is making me nervous now.

No problem. I completely understand. In fact I took it very easy yesterday and will do the same today just to save all my energy for my first attempt at Week 6.

Sondra, I hate to do this, but I rode my bike 33 miles yesterday, and I know that day 1 of week 6 is not happening today. Im shifting my schedule back 1 day this week, so I will complete day 1 on Tuesday. But hopefully you will still come let me know how you did!

The only help I can offer is company. I also just finished week 5 and I am feeling exactly the way you are. During weeks 4 and 5 I really looked forward to - and needed - those two minutes of walking so it's hard for me to imagine walking only one minute. I am just telling myself that I was worried about week 5 and I got through that just fine and I'm going to do the same with week 6 - even if it takes me more than one week to do it.
Let's both check in after we get started on week 6 and see how it's going.

I am just starting week 5, in fact just finished 1st run/walk. But I did want to say I started running a year ago last May and I was always surprised by how well my body built endurance. There were a couple of weeks I had to repeat, but I will never forget doing my first 20 minutes and just being in awe that I could do it. I have started this program to help me get focus again and build back up to running 25-30 mins. I can completely understand your nervousness, I still get that way when starting new week. But I almost always surprise myself with doing fairly well.
Good luck going into week 6.

I was wondering how everyones transition from week 5 to week 6 has or is going? I just finished week 5, and I am very nerous to start week 6. I walked 2 ran 3 for both week 4 and 5 for the specific reason to transition better to walking only one minute. but still nervous! I paid close attention to how I was feeling after one minute of walking and felt I was not ready to begin running again at that point. Maybe I'll be surprised, I hope, but no matter, I will do it, I just hope it dont kill me! How did you do??? Thanks for any input.
