sometimes when I run on hills like in the subdivision an i go around the turns I tend to push off or land on one leg more than the other.. which causes me to have more pain in one calf at the end of a run/walk than the other, when I feel it I try to straighten the turns out, so as to not hit/push off as hard. I'm with ya bro, this getting in shape is painful. But I know that once I get though this, I'll exchange one pain for another LOL.

Yay! Thanks for the update! That's sound perfect, that you had a strategy in mind and made the program work for you. Great job!

UPDATE: When I posted this last week my confidence had really been shaken after not being able to finish my running routine twice. So I decided to take the rest of the week, and work on building my confidence and willpower back up by running 2.5 minute intervals instead of 3, which was something I knew I could finish. That went well, so this week I once again attempted week 4 and.....

SUCCESS!!! emoticon
I used the tips from the article Suezette posted (I focused a lot more on my breathing, and massaged the area of the cramp as soon as it started) and was able to make it all the way through my plan! I got one little cramp the first day, but by massaging it while continuing to run, I got it to go away after about 20 seconds. And on the second day, I didn't get a cramp at all! I've also noticed that by focusing on my breathing, it makes running a lot easier, and I'm not nearly as tired when I'm done. Who knew that such a small change could make such a big difference!

Thanks again Suezette!!!

Does anyone know why my right calf might be cramping up? I am hydrated, eat a banana a day, and do calf stretches before running but while running that calf starts tightening up.

I've attempted to do the program for week 4 for two days now, and both times I've gotten a really bad cramp in my side during the second running interval. It hurts so badly that it makes it hard to breathe, and I have to stop running, and walk at a very slow pace until it goes away, which takes about 10 minutes.

I don't know why this is happening, and it's VERY frustrating! I got through the first 3 weeks with no problems, and by now running for 2 minutes is easy, so why is just adding 1 more minute causing this? I don't eat right before I run (the only thing I know that can cause cramps), I stay hydrated, and I always stretch and warm-up before running. Does anyone have any suggestions or ideas? This is driving me crazy!
