I was having some muscle pain in my knee. It wasn't too bad, but I didn't want it to get worse. I went to my chiropractor and he showed me how to rub it. It was sore for a couple of days, but now the pain is completely gone. I am finding my chiropractor to be a very valuable asset as I have started running - all of that impact can be a tough adjustment for your body!
Thanks for the encouragement Suezette! My next run actually started out very discouraging. My first running interval was hard. Much harder than I had expected. The second was REALLY hard and I was seriously wondering whether I would be able to continue. For my third interval I slowed it WAY down. I literally could have walked faster. (I didn't know that I could run slower that I was already running!) At that super slow pace, my last 3 intervals weren't so bad, and I was very encouraged! I did my intervals, then walked to complete 3 miles. It took me 45 min.
On Friday, I did W2D3. I was crunched for time b/c I had to pick my kids up at 2:00, so I was really moving fast! I ran my first interval at that same ultra-slow pace, but I gradually increased my speed as the intervals passed. (Not b/c I was trying to hurry, but because it was just comfortable). I ended up doing 8 running intervals instead of 5, and I finished my 3 miles in 37 minutes! And the best part is that I never felt like I was going to die! I am very encouraged and eager to move on next week!
Are you trying to run fast? If so, slow down. Even if your run isn't much faster then your walk. If you finish and you feel like your dying, you're going to fast. After the run, stretch your calves briefly. If they are sore, apply ice right away.
On Monday I did week 2, Day 1 . . . and I nearly died : ) However, I made it through and never stopped. However, I was left with bad pain in my left lower calf that hurt really bad when I would extend my foot. I was SO discouraged b/c I didn't want injury to delay me. I know myself, and I know that it won't take much to discourage me. I woke up the next morning in a lot of pain. I applied ice, continued with Naproxen, but it wasn't looking good. I still did my strength training mid-day, and surprisingly my leg felt progressively better as the day wore on! I was so excited! I even played tennis for 45 min with my husband last night, and I was fine! This morning I'm still a bit sore, but it's no biggie. I plan to go run here soon. I'm eager b/c I really want to do better than I did last time. But, like I said, last time I almost died. Not looking forward to that part!
