Day 1 Week 1 went into the books yesturday, and I'm still excited about it!!! I'm using the treadmill at the gym so I don't really have to think about calculating the time on a stop watch or watching where I step... The last time I tried to start this program 8 weeks ago I was huffing and puffing, with burning shins, and cramping feet the next day (old shoes a really bad idea)... this time I prepared myself... I got new running shoes, and WOW what a difference!!!! Yah I was huffing and puffing counting down the seconds till I could walk again, but I felt great doing it... My burning rib cage told me I was still breathing, and the sweat running down my face let me know I was pushing my limits, but in that AHA moment I realized I was actually running!!!! It's been a long time since I could say that, and being able to do it for 60 seconds felt wonderful!!! Today... no soreness or painful feet!!!!! I can't wait for tomorrows run!!! Wk 1 day 2 here I come!!!
I believe I shape my future. Whether I fail or succeed shall be no man's doing but my own. I am the force; I can clear any obstacle before me or I can be lost in the maze. My choice; my responsibility; win or lose, only I hold the key to my destiny. No excuses..
"Now if you are going to win any battle you have to do one thing. You have to make the mind run the body. Never let the body tell the mind what to do. The body will always give up. It is always tired - morning, noon, and night.

I finished Day 1 of week 1 yesterday. I'm pretty short, so my run/walk speeds always seem to be MUCH slower than most other peoples run/walk speeds. I jst try and remind myself that I am doing what is right for me.... :) Congrats to everyone who is working toward their goals.

Finished Day 1 of week 1 yesterday! I did it and feel great! A little sore, but it is a great feeling. Can't wait for tomorrow for day 2! Between walking and jogging, I did 1.54 miles and did it on a 1% incline. I have never been one for working out, but I love it now and can't imagine a day without some kind of work out.

I literally JUST finished the day one workout, and I was a little bummed, because when I tracked it it showed that I walked at a pace of 3.3 mph rather than my very exhausting periods of jogging. I also wish it would let you input the incline on the treadmill -- mine is permanently stuck at a 12% incline, so even though it sounds slow, it killed me! I'm trying to keep in mind that how sweaty I am should be my indicator of how hard I worked! lol
I've signed up for my first 5K on October 20th -- it's a mud run for women. I realize that I'm not going to have the full 8 weeks to prepare, but since it's more for fun than anything and there are obstacles to break up the running, I might be okay! :)

Completed my first day yesterday at the gym. My alternative cardio is Zumba so this is going to be a fat-blasting 8-week program for me! Motivation is strong and I hope that talking to people here will help to keep it going when I'm not feeling it.

You're all doing fantastic!
Run or walk at the speed that is comfortable for you. There is no actual pace you should be doing either. If you are breathing really hard and can't complete sentences, they you are running to fast. The walk can be whatever you want it to be as long as you have the time to recover for your next segment.

Just finished my first day after not working out for about a month and half. Felt really good to get back into the swing of things with getting my workouts back on track. I'm exercise enthusiast but lost my focus during the summer with doing vacations and moving, I actually gained about 3.5lbs :o( ugh!! My goal for this month is to lose the 3.5lbs + if i can. Wish me luck:o)

Keep it up and you will build up to running for 1 minute. Pretty soon we will all be able to run the 5K. Yay US!

Legs a little wobbly after, but did day 1 week 1 and so proud of myself. Can't wait to do day 2!! I'm over 200lb and asthmatic - I'm sure they could hear me huffing and puffing all over the park while I ran around that track ! ha ha!

I got day one over with Saturday because this week looks like it is going to be a doozy...so figured I would try to get ahead of the game. I must be in better shape than I thought because I didn't even breathe heavy on the runs...day two on Tuesday!

Hi Sugarcube! I did it yesterday at exactly same speeds as you! It's just within my comfort zone. I also had the incline at 2.5 I have never been a runner, too. On the contrary, I always hated running!

Hi there! I am going into day 2 today and will run/walk a bit later BUT does anyone know how fast you're supposed to walk? Are you supposed to stay in cardio the whole time? The first day, on the tredmill, I walked at a 2.5 speed (30 min mile) and then ran at a 5 speed. I have never been a runner so I run really slow right now, but I wonder if the walking period is supposed to be speed walking or just at a good fast-ish pace I would walk around in, in my everyday life. Maybe I am being too picky! lol! Thanks for the help! :)

Started today, but only because I just found this challenge yesterday. I've been doing it more or less on my own for a few weeks. I think I might be the oldest "new" jogger on SP! LOL--69 in Nov. Making it work for me!!

I did Day 1of Week1 and I loved it! It was hard but do-able. I wanted to do the 1 min. run/jogs 5 times and make it 30 min, but I could only do 4. Maybe by the end of the week..

Go, Saramarie! I loved that you said this:
"I am on this new path in life and I am setting my goals by what I accomplish and not by how much weight I lose! "
I feel the same way, and my first big goal is doing a 5K because I want to focus more on feeling proud of what my body is capable of.

The program is only a guideline. If your adjustments work, fine. If not, go back to the program.

I started the program a couple of weeks ago but adjusted the times so technically didn't do week one day one. I developed serious foot pain after the second day and had to stop. I am feeling better and ready to try again. Do you think I should do my adjustments over or try to do the program as written?
What would you attempt if you knew you could not fail?
