Yesterday was a little above my "medium day" I went to 1450.. I was supposed to stop at 1350 but the dinner rolls got the best of me!
I worked out for 50 minutes with my new DVD "the firm" I bought the DVD at Walmart for 3 dollars so I had to give it a try. It worked my whole upper/lower body and today I am SORE.

Absolutely. When I say deficit I'm talking with exercise and intake. I burn about 3200 calories a week. I definitely am getting smaller too. Trying to not obsess over the scale. I don't own one, so I just use the one at the gym once a week.

I calculated my numbers from both Spark and www.freedieting.com
From these two calculators I use both ranges and create a zig-zag cycle on www.freedieting.com and just mix it up and see how my results are... If no results I tweak the numbers.
I don't always lose in pounds as quickly as I lose inches... so I also go by how my clothes fit. I am not really obsessed about scale weight because it doesn't tell the whole story, especially if you are lifting weights and gaining muscle, you could actually weigh more, but wear smaller clothes!
Are you also creating a deficit with exercise. I tend to create a deficit through eating and exercise, not just cutting calories. Are you losing inches too?

I did have a polar that tracked calories that I loved, but lost it a few years back. Now I just have the basic polar for HRM. I use the SP calorie counts for workouts. It seems fairly accurate. I really think I've been creating too much of a defici. Thanks for the advice! I seem to lose 1lb a week average despite eating in the range that shows I should lose 2 a week.. gonna look at my deficits over time. What do you use to look at that?

Hi REDDIRTRUNNER: 400 calories is a great calorie burn... keep in mind that a pound of fat equals 3500 calories, so to burn 500 calories per day would still burn the 3500 in 7 days... or do a combination of creating a deficit with diet and exercise... i.e., eat 250 less calories and burn 250 calories per day all adds up to 3500 calories deficit over 7 days...
For me, I use all 3. Extreme fat loss, fat loss and maintenance... I rarely do my full maintenance though, it's just too many calories for me, but if you are zig-zagging your calories, using an extreme low here and there would be ok, but I only use the low end of my calories on the days that I don't strength train.
What type of HR monitor do you have?... sometimes HR monitor's can over-estimate how calories you burn. Polar is very accurate. I once had a Timex HR monitor and it had me burning 800 calorie per workout, but I wasn't seeing results... A personal trainer friend of mine recommended the Polar and with the same workouts, I found that I was averaging between a 300 - 400 calorie burn per workout... what a big difference.

My first day today! Started out at 1400 calories- will try to do the higher range calorie days on hard workout days and lower on rest days. Today was a moderate workout - burned less than 400 cal. Typical workouts I am burning 700-800..Does the "extreme fat loss" chart from freediets work for any of you?? I am going to be strict with the schedule this week, but want to be flexible with varying my calorie days according to my workouts...

Hi Everyone! I have been following the principals of the Alternate Day Diet for 2 years now. I lost about 20 pounds and reached my goal weight last summer. However, I have gained some weight back and I feel like I need to change things up a bit. I have been a member of the Alternate Day Diet Spark team, but the membership is dwindling and I am hoping for a more upbeat group to inspire me! Hi MCCLOD... regarding weight gain, if this trend continues with your current calculations, tweet your calculations lower to see what happens... our calculations are not written in stone. Also remember as you lose weight you will have to re-calculate your numbers all over again to keep up with the weight loss.

Sounds good to me. I am new to the team, and just came back to SP on Jan 1st to get serious about my health. I plan to start using this method tomorrow. Below are my pre-planned daily calorie intake, and the site I'll be using. I've had a great start in the first 2 weeks of 2011 on my own just using the nutrition tracker and exercising, and would like to keep it going. I learned of this method through a friend here on the daily weigh in team, who was extremely successful using this method.
