A couple of years ago, I used a plan for carb cycling from an online bodybuilding site I joined combined with calorie cycling. I also used the workout program they suggested. (I can't even remember the name of the site, but I was referred to it through a Tom Venuto connection.) I found it worked better than just calorie cycling alone. With calorie cycling, I was losing weight, but it wasn't all fat. Losing muscle! Horrors! I even worked out portion sizes into blocks so that meal planning became routine after awhile. AND to make sure the calorie count was random, I flipped a coin each day and ate my maintenance number of calories (1800) whether it was a high carb day or not, if it landed on heads, and ate 75% of that (1250) on days it landed on tails. But it was a very regimented way to live, and the 1250 days got pretty tough. I guess I believe now that I can get to where I want without being that strict. but I'll find out. My goal is to be at 25% (I know, high by many standards, but many healthy indigenous women are at 25%, and I looked pretty good at 26% last time I was there) by my 55th birthday at the end of September. That gives me more time to be gentle in my approach, but I may have to surrender if I keep yoyoing as I have been. I'll keep checking in here to see how you all are doing.

Anyone in Arizona, or visiting there, can find the STAX system at Max Muscle and Mountainside Fitness locations. It should also be in all GNC's in Canada soon. Within the next couple of weeks it should also be offered at www.bodybuilding.com within 2-3 weeks.

If the article states it "can" be copied then you can post it in its entirety. I know that we can post "a portion" of an article but we have to also post the reference of where it came from. If you've read my posts in the "GREAT Tips, Links & Info" thread you'll notice that I don't usually post the entire article and add the link to it at the bottom so you'll go to the website it's from and finish reading it.

I do have a lot of excerpts from articles written by Tom Venuto! emoticon

CC,
It's from Tom Venuto's Burn the fat, feed the muscle. It's a must have book in order to know more about FAT LOSS. There is chapter on carb cycling and how it speeds up FAT LOSS. Maybe I can post some of it, but I don't know anything about copyright laws and I don't want to make a mistake. Do you think I can post it?

If anyone is interested, I did post some new articles on Carb Cycling in the "GREAT Tips, Links & Info" thread.

Joon, just wondering what your resources are for Carb Cycling emoticon

I did read that "carb sensitive" people shouldn't go above 200-350 grams of "refined" carbs. Instead, they should stick to regular calorie cycling. So I'm not sure if that should apply to good carbs as well.

Thanks for sharing!

For those who are interested in the STAX System, I emailed Chris Powell back and asked about availability and such. They are phasing out the online diet program and moving over to a pamphlet guide for the retail locations. He says it is much simpler and user friendly. The STAX System can be bought in several retail locations in Arizona, and soon in all Max Muscle locations, Mountainside Fitness locations, and soon to be in all GNC's in Canada. Within 2-3 weeks it will available for purchase at www.bodybuilding.com

They are transitioning the product over to eco-friendly manufacturing, so they are holding off on mass distribution in the US right now. I do like the sound of this, eco-friendly manufacturing gets them bonus points in my book.

I really like what the system has to offer. My DH currently takes his meals and snacks in Gladware and a plastic grocery store bag. He often forgets to eat so the guys at work will bring him something from a fast food place and he'll end up bringing that home to eat and leaving his food in the fridge there for the next day. I would like it for myself because it's been a challenge to get all my meals in "on time." Also, with the girls starting swimming, piano and Kajukenbo soon I will be on the road a lot.

I just wish I could see it in person before I buy it!

Thank you CC for the info!!

My goal is to cycle my carbs,
three days low
Fat:  25%
Carbohydrates:  30%
Protein:  45%

one day high
Fat: 20%
Carbohydrates: 50%
Protein: 30%

In practice the easy way to do that is to do the following:
on your low carb days, you only eat fibrous carbs (veggies) and protein with each meal. In the high carb days, you add starchy carbs (potatoes, rice) to your protein for each meal. In a way you are cycling your calories as a result because on high carb days, your calories are higher and on your low carb days, your calories are lower.

Hey CCShere,
Yep, I've been completely off the board for way too long. MrsHoneyC gave me a yell the other day and that got me back into the thick of things. I've been going through some potential transitions with work - still not sure where or how that will all culminate, but I admit that I let all the stress distract me from my food plan. The good news is that the basic concepts of calorie cycling have kept me from gaining any weight back - something I hadn't experienced in the past, so I'm happy to report that fact.

Hope all is well w/ you and that beautiful new baby!

Dawn

Cat,

Unsweetened almond milk is on the list. I use Blue Diamond Unsweetened Almond milk and it's really yummy! I'm lucky I already eat most of the stuff on the list, not too many people like Ezekiel bread.

I just emailed them asking if the system was microwave and freezer safe and this is the response I got, it was an auto reply:

Thank you so much for your email! Over the next couple of months, we will be upgrading the site and programming to continually offer you the best tips, shortcuts, and tricks of the trade.

We would love your feedback to make the necessary upgrades and changes to the STAX System. With your help, we can develop the most effective, convenient, and educational nutrition system ever.

The brochure is simply an overview of the product and is included in STAX Systems at retail locations. The online password grants access to the fully customizable program and brochure information!

If you are looking for the customized menus and grocery list, make sure that you have selected the option in your profile to 'select your own STAX foods'. This will open up the menu and grocery list capability on your home page.

Thanks so much for your patience!

Sincerely,
Chris Powell

So if you're planning on buying it I would wait a bit longer. If you can find it at a retail location let us know how you like it!

I'm carb cycling! This is my first week though. Tomorrow will be my first high carb day. I'm following Burn the Fat, Feed the Muscle. It's great! I'm doing 40 / 40 / 20 for most days and then every 4th day I'm doing 50 (carbs) / 30 / 20. 1800 calories on the low days and then 2300 on my high day. 5 meals. One meal every 3 hours. I also eat most of my carbs in the morning. Go to my spark page or read my blog if you want to know more. It really makes a lot of sense and so far I can totally tell a difference. Not sure if it's because of the carbs or because I'm really planning out each and every meal a head of time.

This sounds like a smart program - the whole self-contained lunch set makes a lot of sense. The most challenging part of calorie cycling is the weighing, measuring and counting, for me. The Stax set would help to keep things organized. In answer to the lady who was concerned about giving up milk, although I'm not an expert, could rice milk be an option to replace regular milk? Just a suggestion.

MrsHoneyC gave me a great tip a while back for cottage cheese, which is adding sunflower seeds to it. I now do that almost everyday as either breakfast or a late afternoon snack. I've also tried toasted sesame seeds instead of sunflower seeds and that's good too. Cottage cheese is a really good protein source, as well as a quick snack or add-on when you're still lacking some calories at the end of the day.

Thanks, CCShere, once again, for all the links and information. I wouldn't have heard of the Stax program/system otherwise.

I haven't read the links (need to re-weigh those DREADED hams today!!!!) but am replying so that I get another email to read this thread.
I've got 2 challenges going on my SPClass team.
The more 'difficult' challenge (Keeping the FLUFF at Bay/Spring Break Challenge) I have them eating to the higher ends of calories, proteins & carbs on cardio days (well, they get BONUS points if the do) and the lower ends on their rest days. A little 'jump' into Calorie Cycling so it will be easier on YOU when they join up here(because we know that eventually EVERYONE comes to your team, CC!)
Thanks for keeping everyone on toes and informed! You are GREAT!

After reading about David E. Smith, he shed 401 lbs in 26 months, I was led to some great information about Carb Cycling. I know a lot of members have asked about it and this is the simplest program I've found on how to implement it.

I haven't tried it but if anyone has, or is going to, please let us know how you're progressing!

I copied the program to my hard drive, I suggest anyone interested copy it as well since it is free, for now anyways:

www.staxsystem.com/full_story.php

There is a lot of great information at the previous link! If anyone has bought or buys the STAX System we would appreciate a review of the product, especially comparing it to Fit 'N Fresh or Tupperware.

Here is more information on David E. Smith:
