In my first 5K, I averaged a little over 21 minutes per mile. Now that I can walk that distance pretty much with ease, I'm going to start working on picking up the pace.

29 minutes per mile - which wasn't bad considering how wet and muddy it was.

There we go then...
I did it properly today. I set the treadmill to 1.61km which equals one mile
and I took 19 minutes. Longer than I thought it would take.
That's 3.16 miles per hour

Walking as fast as I can, almost running, I can walk 1/2 mile in 12 munutes. I am not sure that I can keep that pace for an entire mile. Probably 26 minutes for a mile. I know that to alot of you, that is slow as molasses; but I know what is my best. And for me, I am almost running at that pace, so I think for now, that is fast enough.

I work it out as 3.4 miles per hour
It's all a little tricky as the treadmill works in km per hour
so I actually work at 5.5km per hour
That's 12 mins per km.
I also have the treadmill at a gradient of 5.5 too.

When I started this team in September I was 2.2 miles per hour. After following the training program and consistently walking I now average 3.8 miles per hour. Just on the verge of jogging but a little chicken because my weight is still high and I don't want to injure my knees or ankles.

I can pull of anything from 15 - 26 miutes per mile as my broken leg heals. I also have re-sprained my ankle as I "found" another hole when I fell in it! Just another place I need to put some fill dirt in! I can't believe what destruction moles do to your yard and how long the damage lasts!

Lately they have been 16-17 minutes per mile. And I always get sidetracked by pulling weeds! It is one way to keep the weeds gone. Evrey lap I make I kill another 15-30 weekds! LOL!

About 20 minutes walking in the woods close to my house or over the heathland close to my work. Could probably walk faster on an even surface but I enjoy the nature and animals this way. It keeps me motivated.

I'm in week 5 now and my pace is down to 15 minute miles. I'm hoping to do the 5K in under 50 minutes on Friday of this week. I've told myself that my speed doesn't matter as long as I'm working to improve the speed and make sure I'm in the 'zone' for aerobic benefit while I'm walking. Those are personal goals and I'd encourage you to set your own based on your fitness and health levels. emoticon

Did my first 5k this past Saturday and managed a smidge under 17 minutes per mile. (Total time for 3.1 miles was 50:52.) Still had enough oomph to pass someone in the home stretch, too.

BUT, this training program isn't my first wallking. I've always walked fast and always walked a lot. This just structures it more.

I did 1.95 miles in 30 minutes this morning. That is very fast for me, I know I can't keep up that pace for 3.1 miles. That is also on my treadmill. I can't walk that fast on the street. However it is a big improvement from when I started walking 3 years ago, when it took me 25 minutes to walk a mile and I was done.

Before I got lymphoma, my average was 15-16 minute mile, right now with chemo I'm averaging 19 but working to get down to 17 before my half marathons in November. Over the 5K distance I'm about 18 on a good day. But hey, I've been doing this for a long time.
