Mission accomplished! I finished my first 5K Walk today in 58.13 minutes. Five weeks ago I never would have believed that I would see this program through and make it to the finish line. I will also be walking a 5K virtual race next week. This is a great program and I'm looking forward to receiving my trophy.

Congratulations to everyone who has finished their first 5K, For those still in training, you can do it too!

This is the start of week 5...and I'm ready to walk this 5k!!!! emoticon

*4 weeks ago I could hardly walk for more than a couple minutes before stopping (back and knee pains...plus being out of breath.)

I did a 5k trial run a few days ago and I did it...without stopping and energized (time: 64:17). The time was not as important to me as the fact that I was able to cross that finish line. I never knew I had it in me. I feel so blessed. So HAPPY!!! It feels so good having this new sense of freedom.

Can't wait to do it again!!!

Ida, I'm glad you were still here to cheer me on... and that you'd not yet left the team. I'll also be leaving the team. My next 5K will be next Saturday but it will be with a group. Today I did it with one other Sparkfriend.

How special it is to walk for a cause so near to your heart and share it with your family. emoticon
The sun came out just long enough today for me to get in my final walk. I managed to maintain my average covering some rather hilly terrain. Small Steps indeed. My heart rate monitor indicates I still need a great deal of work. However, before any progress can be made that first step must be taken.

My goals for the future are basic. Continue to challenge myself and learn how my body responds.
Congratulations to all! emoticon emoticon

On Saturday May 21st, I walked in the Angelman Syndrome 5k walk in Orlando, Florida. It was so hot, I wasn't sure I could finish it, but I did with the help of my husband and granddaughter. And, we weren't the last ones done. I am so glad to be able to finish the walk and support the Angelman Syndrome society which affects my granddaughter, Brianne.

Woo Hoo! Congrats to all who have completed their 5Ks. I was in a race today. I don't run at all, and would like to walk 3 mph but usually am a little slower than that, even when trying to keep a fast pace. So I didn't think I could finish in an hour. The other (casual) walkers started at a fast pace, so I was in last place at the one-mile mark, but determined to keep up with the pack. After 2 miles, the walkers in front of me were slowing down, but I wanted to keep the pace up, so I started passing people. I finished in 57 minutes! The race atmosphere really encouraged me to try harder than I do just walking alone for exercise. emoticon

I did the 5K last night, my 5th one. Trying to get in one per week all Spring, that's my goal anyway. I tried some running some at first but my knees were not happy so now I just walk.

Hi!
Just got home from my race :)
I did it in 56 minutes and more important than that, thanks to this program I've been exercising almost consistently for 6 weeks!! (It's a great record for me).

I'm very happy and looking forward to starting the 5K walk / jog program. I hope I can do it!
