5K completed. emoticon Walked most of it but did manage to run a bit. 1hr and 15 minutes.

Keep up the great work!! I completed my first official 5K and it was the most exhilarating feeling in the world. I have signed up for 3 other 5K's this summer. Don't worry about being the only one walking because at least you are out there moving your bones... emoticon

You ladies did great! I did my final walk today but it took me 65 minutes.

I'm in the virtual 5k for the week of March 25th. I hope to do much better by then. I think it would help if I had music and a walking buddy.

I'm proud of myself for finishing something I started. That's something I need to work on in other areas.

Hi Guys, I can do up to 6K walking and I would love to start doing walking / jogging, does anyone know where there would be something simailar for that. I find it very hard to control the breathing when jogging any ideas would be welcome.

Not sure if I am posting in the right place. Is this for the Virtual 5 K race? I did mine in 62min., but because I forgot that I had signed up for the 10K, but did the 5K, it posted an unbelievable time for me! yikes! No way to fix it.

I have started to "trot" a little here and there if the spirit moves me during my walks. Not run, not jog, TROT.. Don't care. It's all I can do and I am happy about it! Good work everybody on here!!

Finished my first 5(5.5)K today in 70 min which comes out to 2.9 mph. My next 5K I want to do in ≤62 min at (by my calculations) 3.2 mph.

Weight + knees = Running is out of the question for me right now, so I figure that for now I'll work on speed.

So excited!

You did a 15 minute mile, so you are doing great! The hills are a bit hard on knees. It seems surprising since they "should" hurt on the uphill. It is the extension of the leg or something. I have the same problem with stairs. Can go up without much problem but the down is a killer.

My dog has learned to walk fast and really likes getting "in the zone" and just going. I do best when we walk in the road instead of on the sidewalk, so I choose my routes and walking times carefully.

Congratulations to us all. I actually did the 5k like so many of you with a dog in tow. Now she runs along with me when I do. My race time the other day amazed me at 43 minutes. Some people appear to be able to do this in 15 minutes, you must be running a lot more than I did, or you have longer legs?????

I want to do this again. Just wish my knees wouldn't go funny on me on the slight down hill roads.

I did it! I walked my first real 5K yesterday in 46 minutes! In the past I have participated in 5K fundraiser walks. The Susan G. Komen walk is HUGE here in Indy and I've done it several times. But they were always on a very casual level - quite simply...a long walk with friends. A lot of fun, but not necessarily a physical challenge. Until this 5k, I had never purposely trained for a walk. The 5k My Way program is fantastic - simple and attainable for anyone! A friend of mine asked me where I was training. I simply told her wherever there's a place to walk that I can measure the distance and something to time myself. No fancy equipment required! I've signed up for another one - the 5K Walk/Jog Program. I'd love to be able to go running with my sister next year and I feel like this program is the next step to that end.

I accomplished my 5k in 54:18. I didn't train as well as I should have and I can feel it. All in all, it was worth it to finish. I will start the training over again and not sign up for a race until I am in my 4th or 5th week of training. That should keep me training and not jumping the gun.

I am very proud of myself! Although I did not train for this race like I intended, I did it today! I decided that even though I got into an exercise rut, I committed to doing this 5K so I was going to do it! This is a first for me. I think I normally would have just skipped it, but I DID IT!!!

I'm so proud of myself. I ended up getting sick for one week & another week just to get my energy back, but I still made sure that I completed this challenge. As someone else mentioned, my husband also joined me & we walked 5.3km in an hour! Considering how I had felt when I was sick, I was afraid that I wouldn't feel as good during the walk as I did. We had mixed sun & clouds & I felt awesome. What a great way to finish the month. I can't wait to see what other challenges I can complete. Thanks everyone for sharing your own stories & helping to give me the extra boost I needed to get off my butt. emoticon emoticon

I completed my Trick-Or-Treat Trot today in 62 minutes! Not only that... The hubs joined me!

I felt so supported. He told me that he's proud of me, proud of how determined I am, and proud of how far I've come, given my physical challenges this past year. It meant the world to hear those words.

And the best part?

We did our trot from beginning to end in the rain!!!

As we started to head out, it started sprinkling. Hubs turned to me and said, "You still want to do this?" I said, "Absolutely. Let's go."

Then when the rain got a bit heavier, I started thinking, "Oh, no. Maybe this wasn't such a good idea." Doubt began to set in, much like has happened in my life when the going has gotten tough. The parallels between the rainstorm and the challenges in my own life became crystal clear at this point.

Then the rain came full blast. My fierce woman attitude took over, and the only words I could keep repeating in my mind were, "Bring it!"

Hubs and I kept looking at each other, at first, smiling and then full-blown laughing. We were transformed into two little kids having fun in the rain. It was one of those beautiful moments that comes along in the most unexpected way.

My husband's words of encouragement today coupled with the rain we plowed through became total validation for me -- validation that I can and will continue to persevere, to pursue wellbeing and healing, to continue learning and attempting, and to make every effort to live my best life.

I'm so glad I found this virtual 5k race and training program. It has helped to strengthen me in so many different ways. I really needed this. Thank you.

I have finished doing my 5K. I actually walked 4 miles a day for most of the time of training. I am slow and can't seem to get any faster than a 20 minute mile. But at least I did it. Just in time too because it's suppose to start snowing this week. So it's back on the treadmill. emoticon emoticon emoticon Sparks People. emoticon

walking is the best and one of the easiest means of exercising. I don't drive any more, so I use what God gave me to get around. Keep it up, you'll find it addictive in a good way.

What a motivator! I'm watching you all do 2,3, even 4 5K runs. My daughter did one yesterday with the dog. She is training for a 10K.

I'll have to get out again.

emoticon I finished my 2nd 5K this morning on the treadmill. I jogged 1 min. and 20 sec. every 10 min. I completed it in 56 min. Whew! I am trying to do an easy (?) jog (4mph) every 10 min. It was hard, I have to say, but I am so happy I got back to exercising. I need to do this because of all the pot holes in the road ahead. Heh-heh! Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Years doings!! emoticon Congrats to all who made the attempt and to all who completed their 5K!! Great Job!!
