I did it!! Finished my 1st 5K this morning. It took me a whole lot longer than I thought it would but I still finished it. My plan is now to just keep repeating weeks 3-5 concentrating on making my times better each week. We'll see how much time I can shave off that 5K time in a few months!!
Stay motivated by setting smaller, obtainable goals.
Make these other goals habits: - Healthy, mindful eating - Walking at least 5 miles a week - Strengthen training at least 3 times a week

Starting Week 5 today, hopefully.
My walking buddy, who is training for the 5K also, was on vacation last week. I'm not sure what she did while she was gone. If she stayed on track we'll move on to Week 5. If she didn't, I will repeat Week 4 with her. Either way is good because I'm really enjoying the long walks.
Well, my walking buddy was good with continuing on to Week 5 even though she hadn't done any walking for time or distance. So, we started off. Day 1 was good and today is Day 2. Since neither of us work on Friday's, our 5K is tomorrow morning. Wish us luck!

Hi everyone I finished my 5k last week. I finished 3.1miles in 54 minutes. Began another 5k training that goes for 8 weeks on RunKeeer a free app that is really great. I thought it was for runners only but it has plans for everyone. It also gives you your time as you walk. Today was day 2 and we started some interval training. Sounds hard but you walk slow for 1min and 30 seconds then steady for 1 minute. for a total of 8 cycles. It took almost a minute off my avg time. I had never done interval training and was amazed at how more challenged I was. I was sweating like a pig and i never sweat. I got a real sense of accomplishment from it though. God luck everyone with your race.

I have been a slacker since I posted that I would be starting week 5. I now have crunch time, need to do two walks in two days and the event on Wednesday. I might have to postpone a couple of days, but as long as I get it in by Saturday I will be okay with that.

Finally I am ready for week 5, not doing too bad however just a 1/2 week (I think) behind. This has been great tough for me, seems like right after I committed to doing this walk it turned cold. I am not a cold weather person, just wanted to stay inside where it was warm, bundled in a blankie, in front of the T.V. Fortunately for me we are having a burst of warm weather for the next few days, I will sail thru to the end!

I just returned from 10 days in Israel. I walked a minimum of 3 - 5K's. I feel great. Such a different walking surface - up/down, steps, stones, sand . . . but I feel stronger and healthier. I'm glad I worked on it a little at a time.

I have walked 5ks in the past 7 days. I think I know why my feet hurt now! I need to get some better shoes for all this walking. The ones in Wal-Mart just aren't cutting the mustard! I take my shoes off and the hurt so badly when I step on the floor - like severe pain in the ankles and bottoms of my feet.
Yes, I think I should pay more than $20 if I am going to keep up all this walking! And I want to keep it up! (Does it sound like I am making an excuse to spend money yet?) No really, I believe everyone who says you need great shoes to keep walking in. I am finally a believer.

Finished my challenge after work yesterday: 41 minutes. It felt so good! When I started out, I wasn't sure I'd do all that well; seemed line a long way. But "my way" was primarily walking, with a little jogging here and there. It was a beautiful late afternoon, and Autumn was certainly in the air. Now, on to another challenge..

Week 5, Day 3 - completed my needed 30 minutes walk by walking 41 minutes. I'm all ready to do my 5K Walk which is scheduled for tomorrow, the 16th, weather permitting! :)
I just finished Week 5, Day 1 and did 2.84 miles for my 40 minutes walk requirement (actually was 88 minutes). Leg calves have to rest, loosen up and be strengthened. Working on stretching exercises this week (calve workouts) to loosen them up in time for my 5K walk on the 16th.
I have had to opt out of this challenge. I hurt my achilles heel and I can't even walk. This happened 3 weeks ago. Sorry I am late in letting everyone know this.

I did my first 5K and felt great! I'm planning to keep on walking while the weather holds, which hopefully it will for a while.
Who knows -- at some point maybe I'll be able to add jogging into my walking plan. Not really thinking about that yet ... had a bad knee injury almost 8 years ago, so I need to lose more weight before I think I can consider it.
Whoo hoo to me, and to all the other 5k-Your-Wayers!!

I did the Turkey Trot this morning in 48 minutes 17 seconds! I did the race on my treadmill. I started at about 3 mph, bumping it up as I got warmed up. When I hit 3.6 mph, I started doing intervals, jumping up 2/10 faster for 2 minutes, then dropping it by 2/10 or 1/10. I finished at 4.0 mph.
I spent the whole time watching an episode of The West Wing and the beginning of a second episode. It keeps me distracted and time flies.
I posted a post-race photo on my page. I had fun!!!

I just finished my first 5k today...and it was great! I felt good the whole time, finished in 1 hour 5 minutes and had a blast. I've been told since I was in junior high school that I shouldn't run because of my asthma. I've listened to that for 20 some years. But since I started exercising in June, I haven't had one major asthma attack (just a few small ones)...so I'm going to try the Walk/Jog 5k and see how I do. If I find that that it brings on an asthma attack, then I will simply go back to walking and chalk it up to a lesson learned. I would really like to get into running though - there seem to be so many fun runs to do out there that I would like to participate in.

Good Evening Everyone, My son Robert and I met my husband over at El Parian for lunch. We walked over there while my husband drove over. Then my son walked back after eating while we stayed and talked to friends.
After I returned home my son asked if we could walk a 5k tonight. That there are people gathering up at the University and walking to McDonalds. I said sure. I didn't know when I said yes that it was a night time walk that started at 8pm and ended when you got back to the starting line. I took my pedometer just to see if they were right at 5k. My pedometer measured 5.5k. The pedometer also said it took me 82 minutes to do the round trip. I have been wanting to walking a 5k so now I can mark that off my list. I am tired now but happy that I did that for my 12 year old son. Because we were not going to let Robert go alone because 1.8 miles of the trail is through woods and there had been rumors of a bear hanging out there.
I hope everyone has a good evening with whatever you do.

Good Morning Everyone!
I am pretty pumped today. We went to the bowling alley yesterday for Robert's weekly league. After getting there, we were told that Robert and one of his team mates came in 10th and 11th on the Arkansas State USBC Championship tournament last May. This was out of 1400 participates that signed up. Robert told me that he was a little disappointed because he didn't make it into the top 3. The top 3 got to go to Dallas for the Regional Bowling and then the top 2 gets to go to Nationals in Hot Spring.

I did an unofficial 5k with church & an official 5k with AF. I am feeling like I have the flu-darn allergies. but I finished!
