My time for the 2.5 was right around 50 minutes. But that was walking on a treadmill, so I'm sure I would have been slower walking outside. But I've got no complaints, because I'm doing a lot better than I was a couple of months ago!
Well, now I feel kind of bad about my time. I did my first 2.5 mile walk in 54 minutes. I was feeling pretty good about that until I saw that jsanders thought 44 minutes was too slow.
I do all my walking on a treadmill. I'm on track to walk my first 5K by the end of next week but it will have to be an indoor walk. Working in the hills of southern West Virginia, the weather is just starting to improve. Plus I'm not sure if I'm ready to walk up and down all these mountains yet. I'll get there eventually.

I started out doing this on the treadmill but after hitting the two mile marker it gets really boring. It took me 60 minutes to do 2.5 miles but I believe that's because it feels like I am going to fall of the treadmill if I go faster that 3.2 I am going to do the last week outdoors now that the weather is better. Hopefully I will get better time and leave the gym for my strength training and bad weather.
If you'd like to know how your times stack up to others you can enter the SP virtual 5K race. People post their times and indicate if they walked, walk.jogged or ran the course. Keep in mind that courses can have different elevations so it's not necessarily a fair comparison. The best measure is, as already mentioned, your past times for the same course. Also, weather conditions can make a difference!
I agree with DUTCHDAVE, u'r competing with yourself and as long as u'r feeling good, it's all that matters. I've entered a couple of 5K's and both of them I walked. Naturally, I did not place, but I still walked the 5K, which better than me sitting on the couch and munching...

Dont think your slow, that is a good time but the biggest thing is that you are doing the walking. Walking is like golf, you are really playing against yourself. You always try to better the last time . Keep up the good work
