Strange that you should mention looking for a "new life'. The deceased had a nephew and I thought the same thing when his wife, who is pregnant, walked beside her husband with their young sons and he had told the family it was a girl this time.

Thank you for feeling we could sit, chat and walk the golf course. I'm sure we would have a lovely time. emoticon

I pray it was a good day - sorry for funeral but this is the cycle of life and I usually just look for a youngster that is blooming because of the life of the loved one that is gone -

Praying comfort and peace for your heart and strength for your continued health efforts. I have become comfortable with you and often think it would be so fun to just sit and have a cup of tea with you and chat a bit then walk with you through a bit of your golf course.

Today is full with plans for church, funeral service for family member, visit with Mom. We have to miss a cook-out but there will be other times to share with that family. Rest day?

Plans after this is to choose another challenge. I will still walk at least 4 miles each day or 20 for each week. I will look at the challenges for strength training. I need to get some muscular strength.

I 'm sorry I was missing yesterday - thought about you on the gold course as I was farmer's market. We have 7-8 hour days on Thursday and the heat always drains me so didn't do much sparking that evening...Have started my new diet plan today and that requires more study and planning and accounting of efforts as well as calories. Glad you take rest days after you long walking days - take good care of you!! ! am going to approach the question of knee options when I see my Dr next week. This is your 4th week...what is your plan for carrying through after this challenge?

Got in over 5 miles yesterday, but today I will probably take that rest day. Feeling a little sore in my legs today. Made the call to Dr. Lang to get set up for my 6 month round of SYNvis shots.

The kettlebell is not as easy as using resistance bands or dumbbells, but, it is something different that I think uses muscles I don't use the same way so I may be helping gain strength because of it. I am still getting the hang of it. The videos here on SP really help.

It pleases me to see how hard you are working at this healthy goal in your life - I have never done anything with a kettle ball - how do you like it compared to other weights or stretch bands etc? Keep up the good work.

Yesterday was my cross train day. I did a kettlebell video workout, rode my bike 30 minutes, practiced golf tee shots and got my steps in.

You are busy with your challenges nd making progress - those metals are important! My dear husband presented me with one when I crossed the finish of my 5K nd my daughter took it to get the back engraved...I almost wish I had kept it a few weeks before giving it up to the engraver HaHa Keep up the progress ...doing well.

My next virtual race 5K starts in July. I'm doing a Hogwarts challenge. Right now I'm addIng up miles towards a 100 mile trek. I have already received the medal, but won't even open the package until I get the last 46 miles done.

Thank you Linda. Unfortunately I found myself in severe pain on Saturday evening and finally gave in to go to the emergency room. Diagnosis is Shingles. The pain is intense and I am not able to do anything much except try to keep this under control. I will be OK for a few hours after taking the meds but not strong enough for exercise . Hope to be back soon.

Wonderful way to get in your steps...I can't imagine what that is like!!

We start our attending Farmer's Markets tomorrow and I fear how that will drain my energy without getting many actual steps in that I really need for my surgery recovery. Pray I can stay positive and keep working at my 5-K goal till accomplished.

Good work GolfGrMa have you chosen an event for doing your 5K? Or will it be personal race with yourself nd your own personal time and effort?

I admit I am struggling to make the push to meet the stamina I must have to walk the last mile point one and then will name the day and time and friends are going to join or come to encourage and celebrate with me. Looking like it will take about an hour and a half for me to walk mine with my canes.

5/05 Cinco de Mayo for those who celebrate
It was one year ago that I was told to prepare for life in a wheelchair that I would be paralyzed from the waist down - well after more tests, second and third opinions and major surgery, I am NOT in a wheel chair and NOT wearing diapers ...I am preparing for a WALKING 5K with two canes emoticon and I will be sending a picture of me crossing the finish line to the Dr that told be that!!!
Yes, I have had a rough time, have had major surgery and worst pain I can ever imagine but I and slowly doing most activities of daily living now and consistently walking a mile in 30 minutes - endurance will win!!!
so Day 7 of week 4 is done for the second time and on to week 5 in my training. See you in Week 5 notes.

5/2 Wk 4 second time through Day 4 - feeling positive and thankful for progressing in my post surgery efforts - Drove car new distance for me, did every Aisle of our small Dollar Store and then home to nap and will do Seated elliptical 60 minutes after my dinner settles.
Understanding the stretches and think I did them right in my practice session - also a little strength straining with 1# WEIGHTS - seems so small but one step at a time is winning this race emoticon emoticon

4/29 _Week 4 second time thru....Trying to do my outside walk two days a week - increasing it 10 minutes per week
Mon. the seated elliptical Tues the exercise bike and Wed outside walk for 50min.
then Thur,Fri,Sat the same pattern and rest on Sunday except for walking purposefully in large church and up and down their carpeted stairs
next week it will be 60minutes and goal of adding 10 minutes each week till I can do my 3.1 mile then try to shorten the time from that.... all done with two canes on soft fairly soft turf and do the actual timed event on composit High school track.
4/30 Walked outside 50minutes 1.89mile in fitbit steps ... Felt positive tired when done but not in tears... really need to find a way to get in stretches and strength training too.

Made my 50minute therapy walk today - outside with two canes and exhausted to tears but I made it 1.6mi.using two canes is quite a bit short of 3.1 but I'm half way and that is lot further than Dec 1 when I had no movement or feeling in right leg. I'm thankful and thinking positive.

Looks like I will need to work at this many more weeks so will work Wk #4 several times and just put in my own time needed ...this week it is 50 minutes two days.

Physical therapist is always so encouraging - with goals met and asks me what I think is still weakest and works on changes and specific exercises for them.

This has been high pain day because I am trying to decrease amount of Tylenol used so fewer pills taken - looking forward to bedtime!!! Tired and hurting is not good combo.

Well yesterday's 5 hour travel turned into 7 hours, more stairs than I expected and walked around in daughter's home more than expected so was really tired when we got home.

Today was Sunday and needed nap but still pleased with walking...Tomorrow it is back to physical therapy and routine - and I need to map out just how many weeks I need to still train and therapy walk before I am ready for the special 5K ---

Non- training victory was walking short distances without my cane and felt strong and secure - no stumbles...yeahhhhh

Starting week 4 Day 1 Working towards 5K dream I have had for three years -then in 2014 interupted with needing two heart stents and then began conditioning for it in 2015 when diagnoses with severe spinal stenosis and told to prepare for being parilized from waist down and a life in wheel chair ... then told there was hope with extensive surgery and had that on Dec 1, 2015 woke with no feeling or movement in right leg and very little in left. After 18 days in-hospital rehab I could maneuver win house with walker and went home to physical therapy and began to dream again...mid April I was walking in home with canes.
Steady though slow progress to no walking with two canes 1 mile in 40 minutes and still no feeling in left foot and right outer leg and foot goal is to increase time 10 minutes duration each week and GOAL of WALKING with two canes 5K on composite surface high school track sometime in June or July in less than 2 hours. Training on exercise bike and seated elliptical in addition to outside on lawn cut short 40 minutes a day this week. Tomorrow is rest and travel 5 hours to help daughter in her moving to new apartment. Life goes on and new challenges each week Sure wish I had someone in similar situation to share with but this is a good outlet for me too.

I'm stuck on week 4. I'm done with excuses of not getting this done. I need to get my focus in order.

I have one more practice walk, 2.75 miles, to do for the 4th week. I will either do it today or tomorrow.

I did the first of the 4th week sessions today by walking 40 minutes without stopping. My little dog is doing the 5KWalking program with me and the continuous walk exercise meant that she had to forego her usual sniffing pleasures. She does so well and inspires me to keep moving!

am starting on week 4. For I am walking not running, at 72 I think I may break my neck if I run. I am working on my treadmill plus walking with dog. Yesterday I did 2 miles in an hour, not fast going varous speeds and switching between speeds 2 minute at one the 1 minute at another. I am working more for endurance. My race is Dec 6, I know I will be ready. It will be my first virtual race, first race ever. I did walk 5 miles in my 30's when we walked for hunger awareness. Going a little at a time and following own pace has helped along with the ideas the program gives you. I also do stretch, strenth exercise from tapes I have.
Hope everyone is doing well

Finished the week quite easily. I was sight seeing and on site, so there was lots and lots of walking involved whether i wanted it or not!!! But the challenge will be to keep up the habit when im back in normal life!

Just finished my 2.5 miles on my treadmill! emoticon

It took me 54 minutes and 20 seconds plus one quick bathroom break. I was planning to do it yesterday, but my schedule became too busy and I was only able to squeeze in 1.25 miles.

Still, I did it! emoticon

Monday I did my 40 minutes. Yesterday I did 2 hours (or more) gardening and my steps were over 7000. Today is my official 2.5 day. I know I can do it but I have been really concerned that I am not ready yet. My DH said I need to remember that I am 65 and it may take a little longer than 5 weeks. He said to just keep up the good work and I will get there. Gotta love that guy. emoticon

Still having DOMS pain from my Saturday kettlebell workout so I went a bit slower, average of 2.5 mph instead of 2.7 mph, but still felt good to get it completed. emoticon

Can't believe I have completed all of the challenges through this week. I made myself get out and walk the 40. Surpassed that and enjoyed myself. Starting to get the hang of this fitness stuff again. Missed it.
